I got the email that said 'Last week, GardenWeb joined the Houzz family'. I haven't responded. I don't know yet what changes will be reflected on the Garden Web forums to know how it could affect how they function.

I've found the mass of information on Houzz time consuming to try to navigate and haven't visited there much at all....

That is very worrisome. I am not a big houzz user. I don't want to register there and everytime I try to look at something it blocks the page with the forceful join up info which I don't want to do so there fore I can not view anything. That may mean an end to the forums as we know them and in a completely different format and path.

Oh Raven, how depressing that sounds! I wonder if Tamara is gone, because when I wrote to "contact me" last week about the pop-up problem on the ipad the reply wasn't signed by her, as it usually is.

Golly! I hope not. I haven't received the email and I've only had one address for at least 20 years, so it's not that they don't have it. I tried once or twice to look on their site, but it was horrendously difficult.

I don't think I've gotten the email, but I sure do NOT like the constant pop ups.

1st time I have heard about this. I am not happy with all the pop ups and I hope they clean up some of the forums that have very little posting or put a date as to how far back you can respond. Some of the postings go back several years.

First I've heard of it; no emails from Houzz; not getting pop-ups.

Followed the link.Guess it is too late to hope it doesn't happen. Now hoping it won't be drastic changes; unless it is for the better.

I get emails everyday from Houzz. But nothing has been mentioned about GW. I think I must have "joined", but honestly the site is so difficult to navigate, that I usually just delete the email without even looking at it.

If I get one more pop-up from John Deere....i'm out of here.This Houzz has found a way to break thru.

No worries -- I'm still here! (Thanks, Erin! ;) The emails are begin sent out in waves, so you might not receive yours at the same time.

I'm sure this news came as a bit of a shock, and we all know that any type of change can be scary. But, I think this is a very good thing for GardenWeb and the future looks bright. Of course, everyone has questions and concerns about the changes and we'll have more information to share with you very soon. I will tell you that everyone at Houzz has been wonderful and they really do want to keep the community happy. They have been working hard to make this a smooth transition and keep it as painless as possible.

Oh, and good news! I did receive some information that the pop-ups should be fixed later today and will no longer randomly and continuously open. The even better news is that once we transition over to Houzz -- no more popups at all!

Many web browsers have an option to block popups. In Safari it's under the software preferences, but I am pretty sure there's something similar on Mozilla and probably on other browsers. You can also get Ad-blocker which will remove both the popups and also all the ads in the margins.

Thanks for the info, Tamara. Change is often scary, so your post has quieted my alarm bells.

I have never heard of Houzz

You don't have to sign up for anything to browse around in Houzz. I've never done so, and have been getting ideas there off and on for quite some time.

I just got my email and browsed some bathroom remodel ideas at Houzz.

I had never heard of it either so just checked my email and had a message from them. I clicked on their link to check them out and downloaded the iPad app., then looked around some and I like all of the pictures of the rooms for ideas. Need to go back again and look some more!

Tamara, I am so very glad that you are still with us. Thanks for popping in to explain things. As long as things don't change here at the KT I will remain here. I've been here since the KT first started.

I'm glad you're still here, Tamara, as you've always been most helpful with any GW problems I've had. I hope Houzz keeps you on! Btw, I don't see pop-ups on my ipad anymore so a huge THANKS to whomever is responsible for that!

I have never used Houzz and whenever someone posts a link to it I can't view it because I won't join. I just find it so unmanageable.

Tamara, I am glad you will remain with us! So far, no more ads. I hope things don't change either. This is the easiest forum to read that I have ever found. If I have to click back and forth to see responses to a thread. I don't read it. Thanks for stopping in to let us know what is happening.

I don't know how anyone can go to houzz.com and view anything. What I get is the entire page covered with the option to sign in through Facebook or sign up through email. I can get no where. If I click on a topic like kitchens at the top it goes to a page that again has a huge sign in banner across the page. I suspect some may be automatically getting in because they have Facebook. Even if I click on a link someone posts to view the page can not be viewed due to the login banner. I just get so turned off by things like that, makes me not interested in the effort.
If they let me look around there's a very good chance I would join but not that way. Not getting another app for something I can't view.

I did get the email. I can go to Houzz and look around for a few minutes, then the prompts to sign up start. It is frustrating so I rarely visit that site. Let's hope they leave things alone here.

I got the message also. I checked it out quickly and didn't see a board like this at all, but it they are keeping the GW forums, it should, be OK. I am ever the optimist.

I got my email last nite. I don't go to Houzz......I'm not into decorating or over-the-top out of my budget kitchens.

But I sure am glad that Tamara is still staying with us! Tamara, you've been more than helpful with any questions and concerns I've had and when I've been accidentally locked out. We need you!

I got the message yesterday. What a surprise - I used to visit here daily at work but my firm blocked the site several years ago and I hadn't visited since. I took early retirement and look forward to visiting again. The houzz email reminded me about this wonderful place!

Got the email today. It more or less assured us we will still have GW forums. Stay tuned. I scrolled through a bunch of HOUUZ sites, but there were none that interested me. Way too "upscale." Nothing about gardening.
