When did you join Garden Web?
Comments (14)Hi, I got my computer in late 95/early96, so it was here then being I found it not long after. I just went and checked the Wayback Machine, and they have it archived to late 96. Dave's was founded by a disgruntled "Disneyed" member, Dave. If you misbehaved on the forums, Spike fixed it so you couldn't log on to Gardenweb. Instead the Disney site would pop up, lol. Spike re-vamped everything in 2001, so you will not see members with earlier join dates. I'm not sure when Spike bowed out and sold to Ivillage, but it has been a few years now. Comments (34)Thank you, cyn, and thanks to everyone for your kind prayers and energies... Here's an update: acc. to her DH, J. is moving in the right direction every day, evidently not hurting anywhere near as much, is back walking a bit, and if she keeps improving (it's a *long*, tricky process) over the next couple of days will get put on "the 5-day process" and then back home. Not sure what that last part means but I don't want to bother him. Basically, the direction of change is now positive. Heparin is a really tricky drug...I remembered that when I had my MI, I got clots in the vein in my arm where the heparin drip had been. Luckily, it was a superficial rather than a deep vein, so for some reason it either just dried up as a vein and my body worked around it (my memory is foggy but I do remember the hand guy saying something like that) or the clots resolved themselves without any help. But I remember the discomfort from just having clots in that small size vessel. And DD is pretty much back to normal -- the county and the camp have now decided to *close* the camp for now and investigate further, so no one else gets sick, because another group of campers who came in after us, *senior citizens* (for whom such a virus could be very serious--although any seniors who could go camping in central Oregon are probably tougher than I'll ever be : )), got sick too. Interesting to see public health at work. I'm just happy that DD wasn't nicknamed "barf girl" or anything when she went back on Friday : )...See MoreWhere to complain about Houzz recent change to GardenWeb Forum
Comments (11)I don't think complaining is going to affect their decision...or might produce an even more obnoxious way to try to make $$ off a free to use site. I think they probably spend huge $$ on creating something that won't be affected by adblockers, but perhaps the adblockers will catch up and make it possible to block. As annoying as it is if you have to LOOK at it, I find it completely easy to just scroll past. If it's in my view while reading something, I just enlarge the screen or scroll to a place so it isn't visible. I think some people who say they don't see it, might just have not noticed it, with all the visual clutter on Houzz sites. If users don't click on the ads, they will be removed as not effective, but the next "plot" for creating advertising $$ might be even more obnoxious....See MoreGot screwed by bad lawn advice so I joined Houzz - any good advice?
Comments (16)@joe - that was a fun thread to read, thanks for sharing. JC in that thread chose to start this healing process in mid-July but I didn't find the reason of his timing. Given the condition of the grass (mostly like the first pic in thread), and where I am (east coast, Toronto), with weather right now being around 40F at night and 70F during the day, with showers throughout the week, which month should I be starting the same process JC took? @mishmosh - ok cool this makes me at ease, I have the core aeration and fertilizers scheduled within the next 4 weeks @shivece - just signed up to a lawn service, surprisingly not nearly as expensive as I thought given other type of contractors cost thousands even for small jobs in GTA. The challenge now is coordinating my own efforts with the lawn service because I found out that even the best lawn services in our area does things in batch, not tailored towards specific houses. They schedule things based on optimal business operations. @charpell - makes sense, what's interesting is that no one in the neighborhood seem to water their lawn where I live, I never saw a sprinkler or manual watering, just cutting and fertilizers. Last year was the first time we were in the house so I thought it was just me not knowing what people normally do around here to keep the lawn healthy but this year I observed enough to see I was the oddball for sure...See Morefunkycamper
