I have relatives in NYC and New England, braced for it. It's hard to deal with massive amounts of snow in a city, but at least New York and Boston have lots of water available to dump it in.

NYC's Mayor DiBlasio was alarming in his announcement last night because he sounded alarmed himself. I hope the storm doesn't meet expectations.

Anyone here in it's path? It is scary, and I hope as many people as possible stay home. Some people do have to work--hospital, police, fire, snow plowers. It's dangerous just to get to work.

Yes, I had an infusion at dr's office scheduled for Tuesday, office called early today, and asked is I could get there this morning...will be on my way in few minutes.

Not looking forward to this one. Have gotten the flashlights ready, including fresh batteries. The grocery stores were mobbed yesterday. Praying for safety for all - - - - We New Englanders are used to inconveniences due to weather, but personal safety trumps all.

Talked to younger bachelor son last night. He lives in Brooklyn and had been so busy with work that he had not heard about the storm till yesterday. So he ran out to his local grocery to have something to eat in the house if and when he gets snowed in. Store was so crowded that he went to another one. He says the the trains are being taken off the routes tonight and stored nose to nose where it takes a long time to get them out and back on the routes. Therefore, there will be no trains on Tuesday, so he knows he will stay home that day and not go into work in Manhattan. I warned him to not make tonight a late night at work. However, the lack of trains will motivate the powers that be to close the office and send everyone home at a decent hour, and he will be making sure to get home while the trains are still running.

I was watching the weather channel on tv yesterday and just shivering watching and hearing what they are saying is going to happen with this huge storm. They were saying it could be in the record breaking top 5 snowfalls ever. That is some scary stuff.
I know y'all have been through this before but no weather storm is ever something you want to have to deal with. Stay safe and be smart!

This is serious. Get off the roads. Hunker down. Prepare to live without power for a week -- hope not, but be ready to go to a community shelter if you must. Do you know how to make your home safe if you do have to leave? Find out now. Check on elderly or ill neighbors. Don't make *yourself* ill by overexertion while fighting the snow; if you must shovel or sweep your roof, work in stages. Wind chill will be fierce.

What is advised for people living in tall elevator buildings? Do most have generators? I'd worry about fires as people misuse gas ovens and candles -- maybe lay a fire in an unsafe fireplace.

We're on the coast south of Boston and we're going to get slammed. Fox news is here already. This is one of the reasons we keep a wood stove so that, in case of a storm, we're warm. We have stocked up and ready for power outages. I get frightened by the winds as we're on two acres filled with trees.
We both have "headlights" for reading and getting around and, worse case scenario, my son will take us to his home. I hope not, I love being in my own house.

Monica, I am glad you are getting your infusion today. If you are like me, your bones/joints may feel the storm coming with pressure changes.

Be sure you have any meds you need in the house, as you may not be able to get out once the storm hits and finishes.

When you check on the elderly neighbor, make sure they have all they need for the next week. If you are on good terms, you may want to ask them to stay with you rather than alone. As Yaya wrote, the wind noises can get very scary.

If you can, have a spot for the pets to potty indoors or outside sheltered. My short monster has her own washable door mat for "emergancies".

Be safe, be smart, and hunker down. Chicago got hit a few years ago with 30 inches. It took two of us over 8 hours to shovel out.

We are in south Texas and it is so hot here it is hard to imagine that there will be a big snow storm somewhere in our country. I am praying for the ones in it's path.

Just to let you all know in the NE that I am keeping you in my prayers. I hope none of you have any emergencies while it is so terrible. Losing power is my biggest worry when we have ice/snow here....but since you get so much, I suppose most of you have generators. I've checked in with all of my family in NY and NJ. Can't help but be concerned for everyone in the path of this frightening storm.

I was watching one of the morning shows this morning and they were interviewing some of the tourists who had come to stand outside the studio in the freezing temperatures. Would you believe that some of those poor slobs were thinking that they we're going to be able to leave the City tomorrow morning? And paint the town red tonight on their last night in NYC?

Glad I'm not there. We just had about 5 inches and that was enough for me. Most of it's melted now. Hope everyone stays safe and warm.

DH and I are on vacation and I am hoping my daughter who is home in NY doesn't lose power.

We didn't lose power but the town is a mess. Four feet of water covering the harbor area and coastline and now, with the next tide, there will be 30 foot waves and it will toss up tons of rocks on to the land so that it becomes a nightmare. So many avenues off the ocean are under water up to the stop signs. I'm staying in but friends are posting photos on FB.

I don't know where you are in MA, Yayagal but I am a native of MA. I'm assuming that you may be somewhere on the South Shore...but that's just a guess from what you've posted.

I no longer live there but my sister still does...along with a myriad of old friends and memories...so I stay in touch. I thought you might be interested in the front page photo collage that the Patriot Ledger posted today. At one time...many moons ago...my family owned a newspaper in Scituate so those photos brought back a lot of old photo shoot memories for me this morning.

My street hasn't seen a plow and my Jeep is completely buried in snow drifts.I live 30 minutes from work on a good day doing 65 mph. I already called work and they told me if it was not safe do not drive. I work in an ER so I am essential but I'm glad that they understand. I wish I live closer though...they are offering overtime when you work and comp time when you sleep!

I don't remember now how much Buffalo and area got a while ago, but it was several feet of snow and was a major mess. It took them a while to get back to normal.

The Maritime provinces in Canada are being warned, as well ... but it's supposed to have tapered off some by the time that it arrives there.
