You didn't ask but also consider getting a harness that hooks into the seat belt. It will keep the dog from..... 1. Not jumping out of the car when you get to your destination and possibly getting run over in traffic. 2. If you get in an accident the dog won't become a flying missile and hurt himself or you. 3. If you get in a serious accident it would make it easier for the paramedics to get YOU out. Most dogs will protect what they perceive as theirs (the car) and would not allow anyone to enter. They have also been know to flee from the scene and become lost. I'm sure you get the general idea. Also, you might look into getting a moving pad and sewing it, or use velcro, to fit around the back of the seats. Since you can get to the back seats it would be easy to make an envelope or pocket.

When I left church 'tother day, there was a bike about three houses away at curbside ... in the middle of the day. Good catch ... and church yard sale was coming up. Rang the bell to ask whether it was for sale (no sign), lady said it was trash/giveaway, to take it. Took her in some asparagus ... she about junped up and down for joy. A superior bike, having shock-absorber spring in the frame under the seat, but some rusty ... and a training wheel broken ... but I had some wheels from a grocery carry-home cart at home. Axle was too large for the wheel, but a reaming out with a drill fixed that. When the (larger) wheels were installed ... the rear tire was something over a half inch off of the ground, which would make for good exercise for the kid ... but pretty frustrating, with no travel achieved. Taking a hammer to the frame holding the training wheels ... I succeeded in breaking a plastic spoke of one wheel, and made nary a dint in the height at which the wheels carried the rear end of the bike. So I put the training wheels' frames in the vise and operated on them with a sledge hammer. Arranged the training wheels to be just slightly above ground, as they're supposed to be. Made a sign saying that if adjustment was necessary, that I'd do it, giving my phone number ... but it got lost. After sitting a while in the yard sale, when I came to check, it was gone ... one of the ladies said that a guy had offered $2.00 ... she'd refused ... and he ended up giving her $4.00. I thought that it was a good thing that the offer of adjustment had not been included ... for having paid $4.00 for that nice (if old) bike, carrying the luxury of a shock absorber ... the guy could take care of his own adjustments! ole joyfuelled

I wanted to make a cover, too, several years ago. At that time I couldn't find a pattern I really liked, so I ended up buying the cover from BabyEmporio. This link shows the various types of covers. Here is a link to a Comparison Chart of features of various styles of shopping cart covers. It might help you decide which pattern to use. You'll note that some use the grocery cart's strap to hold the child (likely to be very dirty) and others have built in straps. Some cover all the cart's parts within reach of the child, others don't. Some covers are very easy to put on (essentially you just hold child with one arm and fling the cover on) and other's require a good bit of manipulation to get them in place. Ditto removing when you are ready to leave. If you decide you make your own cover, you could always add features you want that aren't part of the pattern. (I ended up getting the "Baby A La Cart" for my daughter. She loves it!)

I've read a lot of biographies about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. One of the more interesting facts I learned was that the Duke (formerly King Edward VIII who abdicated the British throne to marry Wallis Simpson) was incredibly disorganized and always had papers strewn everywhere. In fact, the tub in his private bath at their Paris villa was filled with all sorts of paperwork, mail, photos, etc. It drove the Duchess crazy, so his solution was to have a mahogany top cut to cover it over. So I chuckled when I saw this thread, because all I could think of was him!
