Window seats anyone?
Comments (14)gemini - that is all so cool! How deep is it please? That is, how deep must a window seat be in order to be comfortable? I'd like to minimize this dimension but there's nothing worse -- read, more uncomfortable, than sitting on a seat that's too marrow so your foot has to hang down, halfway, half in, half-out ... uncomfortable and then you just never sit there! But mamagoose -- I think that link of yours is a good suggestion! You get the extra depth needed, but there's no abrupt change to knock your knees on and the shelving is still not so deep, plus when shelving gets deep it makes the whole feel so cave-like. I am worried about how to treat things up the side so it doesn't turn into a cave... this helps. Thanks! Any more please? :) TIA!!!...See MoreAnyone Have/or Have Ideas For Moveable Window Seats?
Comments (3)I have something similar. Under 2 windows at one end of our sunroom we have a low bookshelf that my DH built to house my cookbooks. It is only 18" high and the top is just under the sill moulding of the window trim. It's 84" long and 16 inches deep. There is one bracer board in the center that keeps it sturdy. I asked him to just make it like he would a bench only add a shelf to the bottom. The shelf sits up off the floor high enough that I can get the vac under it and the back is open. The top is usually covered w/ current reading materials and our birdwatching binocs. We have a couple of chairs in this corner where we like to sit, read and watch the birds at the feeders. I like having all my cookbooks in a comfortable place sit and look through. This bookcase/bench gets used as a seat when we have lots of folks over. The sunroom is just off the kitchen & is where everyone likes to hang out. When I know we'll need or want to be using it as seating I have some cushions that I add. It works for us and now my SIL wants him to build the same thing for her sunroom, too! She likes that it can be used as more than just a plain bench cause it has the shelf underneath....See MoreFor those with a banquette/bench seating...
Comments (16)cpang74 - thanks for the kinds words! housepoor2 - We are really pleased with the quality of the Ballard benches and I would recommend them 100%. They are very comfortable and well made. That said, I have to admit I made a mistake with the fabric. I used their "customer's own material" service and ordered indoor/outdoor fabric from another website. After just a few months of use I can already tell that that it will have to be re-upholstered sooner than later - the fabric is starting to pill and the white stripes are looking dingy (even though the fabric is supposed to be washable). I can't complain to Ballard because it's not their fabric - and the most I could realistically expect from the fabric supplier (I haven't tried yet) would be to refund the fabric cost (which is a fraction of what re-upholstery will cost). So, my advice would be to stick with one of Ballard's fabrics - that way they're responsible for everything. I think they have microfibre which would probably be durable....See MoreWill a quality bench seat sofa or sectional last?
Comments (3)Thank you for the personal (successful!) experience with a bench seat. It's really encouraging to know that a well made bench seat absolutely can last! I dearly love how they look and function. I have my heart set on one but keep doubting whether it's a sane choice. That is so wonderful to know that Taylor King can last for so long! So far everything I've read seems to suggest that if I'm betting on quality, Taylor King would be a good bet. I really like two of the fabrics they offer right now as well (and they seem very durable Crypton with high rubcount). I've had some difficulty getting local retailers to give me prices (even when I can detail out exactly the components and features I want), which has been an odd experience....See Morenhb22
