What's with the green underlined words?
Comments (17)Thank you, Sherry, for asking this question. I had, of course, seen the green lines, but I had assumed it was some new and special kind of link, and I have just bypassed it, not being in the mood for links (at least, until I get DSL). Now that I know it is advertising, I do find it objectionable, for this reason: It is inserted into a post written by someone who has NOT requested, or even been asked, to have advertising incorporated into his/her post. At least, that is how it seems to work, since nobody seemed to really know about it. This is not right. It is also deceptive. Of course, advertising is deceptive by nature, and I should know, having worked in that world for most of my working life - nonetheless, I feel this oversteps the mark. I know that GardenWeb needs advertisers to provide the funding for this forum that we all love, but I feel that we are already putting up with a certain amount of it, e.g., the annoying window-shade ad at the top of the page. I'll put up with that, but I would not like having the green lines inserted in a post that I have written. Laura...See MoreThese annoying Pop Ups
Comments (7)How sad that our fun forums have been taken over by the monster.... You are right, it is like commercial TV. I guess I don't mind having to close a box once in awhile, but the take the whole page over ads make me switch to a different website. I can only imagine how long those would take to load with a dial up connection. It would render the website unusable. Sorry for the rant- go plants!!...See MoreAnyone else seeing the annoying green underlined words?
Comments (8)Thanks, Angie, I'll look again because I missed it the first time around. Still can't figure out why these suddenly reappeared. drachiele, I stated that I understand the need for ads. I know this isn't a charity. However, this type of ad isn't only annoying, it affects me negatively. Excessive visual stimuli - a category these fall into - cause my chronic disease symptoms to flair up. They have the right to make money but I have the right to protect my health....See Morethose annoying green highlighted words....
Comments (19)It might help to know that what appears to be vibrant Media is actually "gardenweb.us.intellitxt.com" - so if you're going to block something - block that. If you can block an entire domain, use "*.us.intellitxt.com" or "*.intellitxt.com" and never seen green underlines again. As a tip that should work for apple users, you can influence the behavior of some sites even without ad blockers. If one were to add an entry for ip address 127.0.0.1 and the server name gardenweb.us.intellitxt.com, your computer would look for a script file for vibrant media on itself and, shockingly, not be able to find it. Bye bye green underlines. There is an article linked below. Here is a link that might be useful: Support article for os x users...See More- 11 years ago
