Anyone else seeing the annoying green underlined words?

I haven't had any problem with these since applying the solution back when they first surfaced ... a year or more ago, can't recall exactly. But I just spotted one in the thread about small appliances. I haven't changed anything since I stopped in earlier today and they weren't an issue then. Not sure what's going on. I can't find the info about how to eliminate them - I thought it was on the bottom of page 1 but I don't see it.

Help! I hate how these intrude into the threads. A wrong move of the mouse and up pops a window blocking my view of the text. I understand GW needs to advertise but I detest this type of in-my-face advertising.

Have you turned off pop-ups? With all the ad blockers, etc., we forget the basic browser protections.

I just ignore them and push the mouse.

iVillage is pretty effing horrible.

We see them. I just get really annoyed with them because if you happen to mouse over them, you usually get a video ad--with sound! I don't want any sound, thank you very much!

I contacted GardenWeb about the green words, telling them that it was irritating the last time, and was even more irritating this time. I suggest that anyone who finds that an advertisement injected into a post is inappropriate, contact the GardenWeb and tell them so. They "apologized" the last time this happened. Why should we have to opt out of their invasion of posts?

It might help to know that what appears to be vibrant Media is actually "gardenweb.us.intellitxt.com" - so if you're going to block something - block that. If you can block an entire domain, use "*.us.intellitxt.com" or "*.intellitxt.com" and never seen green underlines again. As a tip that should work for apple users, you can influence the behavior of some sites even without ad blockers. If one were to add an entry for ip address 127.0.0.1 and the server name gardenweb.us.intellitxt.com, your computer would look for a script file for vibrant media on itself and, shockingly, not be able to find it. Nice tips, bmore. Wonder if I can use that same technique with Firefox. Have to look into that. Tamara responded to my complaint, stating that she had reported the problem this morning and a fix should be in place soon. She also told me that generally these types of ads should only appear once per session. If only they were that infrequent! I even had the Duracell ad show up on the message preview page and I've never seen an ad there before - not even when we were dealing with the underlined green word hyperlinks mess. Oh, scratch that. I just noticed the Dove bleed-in ad from the right when I previewed my reply. At least it's not nearly as annoying as Duracell or Penney's ads. I've seen the Penney's ad once so far today but no Duracell ad. I'm hoping they've gone away for good.

"Ramp up"? At the back of a flat-bed trailer, often called a "float", there are a couple of tubes at each side of the back, and two ramps, 6 - 8' long, with a tube at each side of one end of each, and two long bolts going through each set of those four tubes to attach the two ramps to each side of the back of the trailer. Swing the ramps up from the trailer and over, letting them drop to the ground. Then drive your tractor with the front end loader and a bucket on the back up the ramps on to the trailer. Then swing the ramps back up and over, to lie on the trailer just behind the tractor. My landlord the sod farmer does that every few days, to help lay the sod beside the houses that the builders are putting up. They have things like that at the back of the big transport aircraft, to drive heavy equipment up into them. It's usually used with regard to a project that's been operating on a small scale and is being increased. Disturbing word? Incredible!! Along with some that you've mentioned: "myself" one of the main ones. "A million and a half people evacuated ...". How do you evacuate half a person? And if you're evacuating a million ... is the extra half one really that important? " ... as of yet ...", used by newscasters, etc. ole joyful

I've turned off pop-ups, have Ad Blocker, etc. All's been working just fine until this afternoon. May have to contact Tamara with GW to see if she can help. Waiting to see if anyone else knows where the info to block these annoying things is, though.

I thought it was on the bottom of page 1 but I don't see it.

The green words are a program that GW put on the site to make money. Whenever someone clicks on one of these words, GW makes money. Can't blame them. This forum is not a charity.

Thanks, Angie, I'll look again because I missed it the first time around. Still can't figure out why these suddenly reappeared.

drachiele, I stated that I understand the need for ads. I know this isn't a charity. However, this type of ad isn't only annoying, it affects me negatively. Excessive visual stimuli - a category these fall into - cause my chronic disease symptoms to flair up. They have the right to make money but I have the right to protect my health.

Turns out I wasn't looking in the right place at the bottom of the page. Scrolled down just a wee bit farther and there it was. Thanks, again, Angie, for helping me out! Nice to have them gone again.

Not only that, but GW "officially" gives you a way to opt out of them, accessible via the link I posted above.
