Green underlined words - How to get rid of them!!!

It is called IntelliTXT.

GardenWeb/iVillage tried them out last month - and said they goofed...but they are back!

I opted out the right after they started the first time in early March, so I am not seeing them now.

If you would like to opt out - here is the link to the page. There is a link on that page that will allow you to deactivate them.

It doesn't matter what browser you are using, btw.

I contacted GardenWeb about the green words, telling them that it was irritating the last time, and was even more irritating this time. I suggest that anyone who finds that an advertisement injected into a post is inappropriate, contact the GardenWeb and tell them so. They "apologized" the last time this happened.
Why should we have to opt out of their invasion of posts?

If you use Firefox as a browser you won't see any ads.

Thank you, Sherry, for asking this question. I had, of course, seen the green lines, but I had assumed it was some new and special kind of link, and I have just bypassed it, not being in the mood for links (at least, until I get DSL). Now that I know it is advertising, I do find it objectionable, for this reason: It is inserted into a post written by someone who has NOT requested, or even been asked, to have advertising incorporated into his/her post. At least, that is how it seems to work, since nobody seemed to really know about it. This is not right. It is also deceptive. Of course, advertising is deceptive by nature, and I should know, having worked in that world for most of my working life - nonetheless, I feel this oversteps the mark. I know that GardenWeb needs advertisers to provide the funding for this forum that we all love, but I feel that we are already putting up with a certain amount of it, e.g., the annoying window-shade ad at the top of the page. I'll put up with that, but I would not like having the green lines inserted in a post that I have written. Laura

its much easier to PREVENT THEM .... rather than try to cure them ... sterilize your media ... per the link ... i dont care what the bag says.. do it just prior to use ... also sterilize all your pots and implements.. with 10% bleach .... the drench is not sure fire ... as you kill only those parts in the proper stage ... which means you have the potential for the ones flying around to come back and re-lay eggs ... sterilize some media.. and repot all your plants .... clean soil is a good start.. then figure out how to kill all the ones flying around.. perhaps move the clean ones to another room.. until the primary room is devoid of gnattal life forms ... Get AdBlockPlus for Firefox at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 and add this to the list of blocked hosts: http://gardenweb.us.intellitxt.com* They have a little photo tutorial for Windows on the bottom of the AdBlockPlus download page; interface is the same for Mac. (I'm on Mac, works great; I've never seen a popup here and am actually more annoyed trying to read posts with all the deliberate asterisks and misspellings in them ... ;-) )

Thanks, Angie, I'll look again because I missed it the first time around. Still can't figure out why these suddenly reappeared. drachiele, I stated that I understand the need for ads. I know this isn't a charity. However, this type of ad isn't only annoying, it affects me negatively. Excessive visual stimuli - a category these fall into - cause my chronic disease symptoms to flair up. They have the right to make money but I have the right to protect my health.

I do use Firefox and as of today I have ads at the bottom of the page and intelletxt in my earlier post.

The link just takes you to an page lauding it as something to be desired. Didn't see an opt out function.

I have checked my settings, rebooted and logged out and back in. If this is an April Fool's stunt to irritate us once again I don't find it funny.

Hmmmm. I just went back to my clown post where the word clothing was "intelletxted" and now it's back to normal. Hope this is the end of it.

I may be a bit "green" myself (as in scacely being dry behind the ears ... not the environmental awareness variety) ...

... but I havern't found any green words in the text of messages, here.
