"FREE" only for one year...but it still remains an exciting offer. It's an easy way for MS to work the glitches out of W10...and to hopefully increase their popularity. :-) Also very interesting is the planned demise of IE. For a while both IE and the new browser will be available with W10...but I, personally, don't think that'll last too long.

I won't be first in line...but I'll be watching the calendar. ;-)

Apparently its Free UPGRADE to win10 insiders users/beta-testers, as well as win7 thru win8.1 licensed users.

Apparently most anyone beta testing would have a chance at free too. So xp, Linux, etc. Free for all that load the previews.

But my pine straw comes with pine cones and sticks which I have to take out......plenty of it up here in the woods. Down in Mendenhall there are also lots of pines so pine needles should be easy to come by. The Mississippi Market Bulletin has a section for sales of nursery stock. There is someone (last name is Nash) in Winona that sells daylilies and he uses the Bulletin to advertise. I have been to his place and he works with nothing but daylilies. In MS daylilies multiply like crazy so you should be able to get some from people in the community. All of my daylilies have been from friends or were already growing on the property. I divided them last year and replanted some, and gave some away. My house is 4 years old and the landscaping has not matured and is still an ongoing project. It has and is a lot of work but I have enjoyed every minute. You might consider making your own rocks. There is a section in the forums list that you can pull up and learn how to make your own rocks. It's hyberturfa (I know this is misspelled) or something like that.

I thought I should do a follow up on Faraway Flowers. Just got my order yesterday and I was particularly pleased not only with the quality of bulbs, but also the size. The shipping was delayed because of inclement weather, and as a customer I was notified promptly. I ordered each of the Japanese (OT) Hybrids from them and they were enormous bulbs. 24 cm as advertised. I also received a couple of the double orientals and was particularly pleased at the quality (compared to the gift I was given for Christmas from Dutch Gardens of the double oriental mix, which two of them came soft and compost-worthy :(). The roots from Dutch Gardens, came, as per usual, shriveled up. The ones from Faraway Flowers had active root systems, as if they were just dug and sent the day before. I was pleasantly surprised (and I love that). For those of you familiar with Buggy Crazy, that was the size of bulbs these Japanese Hybrids were. I was very impressed with this company and hope to shower you all with fabulous photos this summer of my great finds from my favorite lily growers and vendors. It's almost time for the show to begin...

New to & Excited about SFG-Soil Mix in St Louis?

Yay, another SFG-er in STL! I decided LAST summer to make my first SFG this year. I have 2 4x4 beds, and I'm about to make another one because I don't have enough squares for everything I want to plant. (I'm south city, but I garden in the metro east. don't ask :) ) I see that you've already found what you needed, but I'll chime in in case anyone else is looking. I found the big vermiculite bags at Market Basket in Edwardsville for ~$19. I THINK I saw vermiculite at Bayers on Hampton too, but I already had mine at that point. Actually, Bayers has a lot of good stuff (like row cover and trellis netting) at a reasonable price and had great friendly help. chalkrock: I hope this isnt too late, but one of my "5 kinds of compost" was the cotton burr stuff and I really regret using it. It was not fully "broken down" and has lots of sticks and actual cotton burrs in it. It was a big disappointment in comparison to the rest of the compost I added to my mel's mix, and I can't wait until it breaks down and my beds feel like they did before I added that stuff. Sorry for the bad news. Christine

Good Luck! We just finished building a completely Universal Design house. Let me know if you want any tips. My husband has MS and it has attacked his legs several times. My inlaws also have severe orthorpedic issues. We built with the knowledge that a wheelchair is most likely in the future here. We have a single story home, on level grade. The garage is about 3" below grade, with a concrete ramp into the house, that was a contractor mistake, as the garage can be on level here. Laney Here is a link that might be useful: Our Home Build

Anne it will be free to anyone as long as they install it within the year. It doesn't end after the year. They are giving users one year to install.

I have an iPad with Siri and also a Android phone with about the same capability, and I find neither to be so useful as to warrant regular use. Similarly, my two family members with iPhones tell me they rarely use Siri when out and about. I'm not sure how much different such an onboard feature in Windows would be.

Microsoft's offer to upgrade everyone to Win 10 is likely for its benefit, not that of users. In 12 months or so, after the upgrade to Win 10 period has passed, expect to hear that Microsoft will be ending security and other maintenance services for any earlier versions.

Is that sinister? No. It's just practical. I'm sure they realize how much effort they wasted with XP hanging on for so many years. It's much better to bring everyone up to current and then move one.

Question do you think as with all new OS's that we will need to burn new recovery disks? after we install W10.

Jane...I thought that's what I said....but perhaps my eyesight needs checking. :-) It's never 100% these days.

Snidely....

In 12 months or so, after the upgrade to Win 10 period has passed, expect to hear that Microsoft will be ending security and other maintenance services for any earlier versions.

I agree completely...and I agree with their probable decision to do so. As it is these days...there are still too many balls in the air IMO. I got a bit cranky years back when I couldn't get a few older graphics programs to work with my upgraded system...but in the long run...I found better programs and was glad for the push to do so.

Edited to remove confusing info.

nut, I'm not sure if you intended your question for me, but I'll jump in.

You raise an interesting thought, in the following way. Many people don't bother to make recovery disks, and indeed they really don't need to, because so many (most or all?) PCs ship with a recovery partition on the hard drive.

So take a PC with Win7 on it. A year from now, the user does the free upgrade to Win10. If the offer for upgrades to Win10 from earlier versions is time limited, then the recovery sector is of no use. In that case, it would be essential to make Win10 recovery disk for each PC. I don't know if that guess describes what the state of affairs will be, or if something else may happen. Might PC manufacturers put out updates for the recovery sectors?

I'm sure more will be said about this topic by the normal sources when the time comes.
