I had heard snippets that there was one, but never investigated until now. Someone on the Cottage Garden forum tipped me off, lol! I love to read! Love to get books! Ive mostly been on the gardening (another major hobby of mine) section here. But you shall be seeing alot of me around here from now on!

Quick breifing about myself:

Ive always liked to read, but have only lately started to read seriously. I was never really encouraged to read the Classics as a kid, but have since taken on reading them with great zeal. I was never trained to have an understanding deeper insight, metephores, philosopical straines of subject mater found in some books, but im trying, so please forgive me if anything I say in future posts is rather nieve or silly. Right now im sampling many of 'Masters' of literature. I have read all of Jane Austins novels, including the two she never finished. I feel that one cannot give an accurate opinion of an author until they have read all, or the majority, or their pieces. I do pepper my shelves with some modern literature too.

Welcome, CMK! Always fun to have another fan of books join the conversation.Congratulations on your desire to read the classics. I recall reading somewhere that Dorothy Sayers, when she was encouraged to read the Divine Comedy, was reluctant to do so. When she finally did read it she fell in love with it and said to someone, "Nobody told me it was a great story!" It is easy to forget that classics are classics, in part, because they are good stories.

welcome! I have found this to be a very gentle place...we speak our minds, but for the most part we are quite civil!

I would encourage you to go back through the 10 pages of threads and read some that take your fancy-we have had some discussions on the classics that you would probably enjoy a lot. And join in the game-the thread that starts with a roman numeral...each post needs to connect with the one previous-the trickier the connection the better!

In a non-fiction book, it's better to omit any description, than to supply a false one. So Preston could just as easily conceal the trees by ommission, than misrepresentation. Aside from the book, I discovered via email, that at least one of the researchers is willing to lie about the grove. I found two images online, one of a known landmark, and another from the top of an Atlas Grove tree, showing other near identical landmarks. Later, I emailed that the two photos must have been taken from the same angle and in fairly close proximity. The response was that the location of the one photo, was not anywhere near Atlas Grove. 1/2 hour later, the image from the top of the Atlas Grove tree was pulled off the internet. While down in Prairie Creek Redwoods, I noticed that Atlas Grove was indeed very close to where the second image was, and that the photos were taken from almost the same angle. Maybe 2 degrees apart. Anyhow, "giving it a break" is not a consideration anymore, having photographed both groves. The only folks that could give it a break are those seeking, and that seems to be a fairly steady flow. Actually, I'll be down at Crescent City and Trinidad, California, August 11th to 14th to hike in the redwoods. I will be recording video of Atlas Grove this time, as well as getting more images. I already have video of the Grove of Titans, plus a large assortment of photostitch panoramas. Earlier this month, I made two maps for Atlas Grove and The Grove of Titans, but they are in a password protected album, probably held in reserve until the day that someone "lets the cat out of the bag" (which Sillett, Preston, and Van Pelt already did, if people know where to look). But for anyone seeking - I encourage them not to quit: don't give it a break. The reward is worth it, and the traffic from the moderate few who find the groves is not consequential.

I was typing up my response above when montana and sue responded, sorry! I do like the wood hoods but I do also like the stainless hoods. I also really like the mantle hoods. I have the same problem with granite ... I like almost every one I see. Too bad I'm not building several houses, haha ! The website for kitchensource is great. There are so many different style hoods to look at there. Thanks ! If I went with the Omega National hood (which looks just like the one that was option 3 above from the KD), what would you suggest for the looks of a custom topper ? I have played around with different ideas for that hood but have not come up with a very good one yet. According to the KD, that one has to attach to cabinets to the left and right, correct ? (we are using cherry) Got a phone call back from KD. We will save $800 by not having them provide any kind of hood, so that's money we can put towards other options if we do stainless or a different wood hood. He had an idea for the stainless hood and the problem with the duct from the ceiling not lining up with the hood's flue. His idea was to have a metal worker "box out" the top of the stainless hood to hide the pipe. I mocked it up in my 3D program and also the custom hood pictured in the original post (the hoods below may not be exactly to scale but this gives a good idea of it, and of course the wood hood would match the cabinets). I thought this day would never come when we would be almost finished building !! Interesting point about downplaying the hood. Which option do you favor or do you have another idea for venting ?

Hey Ashley, I really like hearing your takes on situations too. You would be one of my top picks to be my stepmom ;) I realize I didnt make that sentence very clear. Many people I have known have either taken breaks from work, quit, took some time off to regroup etc. I've known many people who have used different ways of dealing with stress from divorce and have taken it out on work, mainly because divorce was so popular in my family lol. Also, I've seen just from observation (my field deals with a lot of people and travel, so I think I have a fairly balanced place to observe) where adults take mental "breaks" from work, can't function very well, get fired etc. There is usually something that "gives" when a couple divorces. A messier house, credit card ran up, lose your job. There are natural consequences of divorce on adults, my only point was that there are going to be natural consequences for children. If one or both divorced spouses have a hard time finding their footing after separate, chances are they aren't going to be quite that rock for their children. The chances are high than the child is not going to be able to function as well as before if this is the case. It is only natural that school will be something that could "give" in the childs life. It is one of the only things they can actually control. They can control how little or much effort they put forth and how much room they allow school into their head. If their head is too clouded with what is going on in their personal life, not much room for school. Just like parents and work.

What I notice about Houzz (as a business, rather than as a host for our forum) is the ads for contractors that appear while I'm reading this forum. And I do take note of some of those... they are people and businesses that I might not know of otherwise. I haven't really needed any of those services recently, but when we get ready to look at having a pergola built in the backyard, it will come in handy. And I know my DIL uses Houzz. It is all about making a buck... nothing wrong with that, in my book!

Welcome CMK! You'll find a lot of book lovers here and loads of reading suggestions. Watch out, though, your TBR (to be read) pile may start taking over your house!

Thanks everyone! Gee, I sounded like an over-enthused twelve year old, didnt I? Lol. None of my family or friends are really into books or literature, and ive been starved for someone to discuss these things with!

CMK-I am new here too and I recommend writing down the book titles that people on this forum are reading. I have been turned on to some very good picks. I have two lists going.One is for books that my library carries (easy to check on line) and one for the bookstore/Amazon.com lists.The second list I give to family and friends for birthday/Christmas ideas for me. My hubby loves it because he can just go and order books for me. I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do. Welcome.

Thank you very much blossomgirl (and everyone else)! Ive allready gotten a few more books on my list since comming here. I want to check out The Historian next... I have a hard time with borrowing books. I have a habit of getting a book but reading something else before it. It will often wait months on my shelves before I get around to reading it. So obviously not a great idea for me to get library books unless I am determined to read them right away! And any library books I do get just keep calling out to me "Tick Tock, Tick Tock, read me now or take me back!!).

We are a friendly bunch. Our love of books and reading brings us together as reading is such a solitary hobby. Here in RP, we can discuss and chat and ask questions. You mentioned being worried about sounding silly or naive, please do not. We are not literary scholars. We are bibliophiles. Plain and simple. What drew US here is exactly what drew YOU here. Glad to have you onboard.

You'll find that each of us has our favorite genres and are willing to try any book that sounds good be it classic, classic mystery, brand new fiction or non-fiction or anything in-between. My BEST advice would be to get a small notebook to keep next to the computer so you always have a handy spot to write down the titles and authors that grab you on this site. Otherwise, you'll have dozens of scraps of paper all over the place.

PAM - who signs in all caps because there are about three or four Pam's on this site.
