Sorry... had to trick you to get you to read this. lol

Copied this from my post on Joann's birthday/anniversary thread. Not sure how many people are actually reading the entire thread so they may have missed this.

I wish everybody would list their birthdays on their 'member page' and put the KT as one of their favorite forums. That way it will come up when I check the KT birthdays every day and I can start a "Happy Birthday" post for you!

Easy to do!

1. Go to Member Pages at the very bottom of the KT main page (or the main Gardenweb page).

2. Choose 'Edit Your Personal Information, Page, and Preferences'.

3. Put in your birthday.

4. Choose the KT as one of your favorite forums.

If you've did all that and don't get a birthday post it is because I forgot to check the birthdays (happens once in a great while) or because I did a search and your name doesn't come up at all (that's to weed out peeps who haven't been here for ages).

Thanks!!!! Try to keep this at the top for awhile.

I call them Dream Merchants. Really they are not selling a product but a dream. Went to one Amway party and the poor presenter spent an hour "explaining" to me that it was not about selling dreams. Alas, the first page in the Amway sales book says you have to "sell the dream". Pretty certain I ruined his Amway career. The scam is to sucker people into selling carp for you. You get them excited about being rich without having to actually work. Show a pyramid chart and talk about the hundred if not thousands of people that will soon be "working" for you. Stop to show some pictures of a tropical beach location. Continue by projecting huge wealth if thousands of people all sell this stuff for you everyday. End up by noting that some people deserve fabulous wealth and it can be theirs if only they cough up a hundred bucks to join your sales team. Not everyone wants to be wealthy so not everyone joins your team.... don't you want to be filthy stinking rich without working? I got sucked in by AFLAC. Fresh out of college and looking for a job anywhere. Being an "Insurance Agent" seems almost like a real job. I actually sold a few dozen policies before the reality set in. Just because you establish a customer does not mean that you own that account. No, your Regional Sales Manager has the right take over your accounts because you fail to sell them more insurance every month. Last sales meeting I was threatening to turn the RSM upside down and bounce him on his head. Had to quit before I gave into violent temptations. : ) lyra

Debrak, you may want to read a bit more about vitamin D before you self medicate with a higher dose. We tend to overdo this stuff in the U.S. From the article linked below: " The US Endocrine Society guidance, for example, advises supplementation with up to 2000 IU per day, but this is overzealous, she said. "A more reasonable dose is 600 to 800 IU per day," she noted, adding that she is an author on a new guidance, soon to be published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, which will state that 2000 IU per day "is not warranted." " The uv wavelength that helps us produce vitamin D is the same that causes aging and skin cancer (with enough exposure). So limited sun exposure is the key. Right now vitamin D is the new fad--- it has replaced the megadoses of vitamins a, e and c, and other supplements that seemingly everyone has been on at one time or another. I've been trying to pare down my "stuff" - and not just my sewing stuff, for the past 2 years - ever since I retired, I've been looking at everything with a more critical eye - maybe just have more time now to get serious about what I want to keep or need - that first summer I donated 17 boxes of just all kinds of things you accumulate over the years, plus my huge 7-ft artificial Christmas tree (some places didn't want it!) an old computor desk, a chair that was my mothers (my brother unloaded it on me, he was one step ahead of me in decluttering, and amazing how you think you should own stuff that you maybe don't even want or need, because of its sentimental value!) the list goes on and on - I don't want my kids to someday have to dig through our house trying to decide about everything we own, and I know one daughter will want to keep everything "because it was Mom and Dad's" (see sentence about "sentimental value") so I'm doing it for them ahead of time. I had a nice little chrome and vinyl chair, box of nice books, 3-4 boxes of this and that out on the porch Thursday for Salvation Army to come pick up - they sorted through it all, and only took about half!!! - left the chair and the books - ??? My neighbor took the chair for her front porch, and the rest of the stuff I'm dispersing here and there in town to charities - it's NOT coming back into my house. I'm much more picky about what I buy now, and accept as freebies - don't need all that I thought I needed or wanted in order to be happy. As my daughter says - "There's a difference between needs and wants". Boy, didn't mean to ramble on about this! (And I do have a box of fabric pieces to donate to a church charity - of course that was one of the boxes S.A. didn't want).

It's easy for a normal consumer to start questioning a design choice or material when everyday, every hour, we are bombarded with "what's new". I am a catalog hound, and I finally realized that if I stopped most of my catalogs, I would be able to calm down the part of my brain that says "oooh I want that".Whether its shoes, or wall art, or countertops, or home fabrics - I know I will be more than content with my already beautiful home if I stop exposing myself to other choices. The Pottery Barn catalog now has color choices from Benjamin Moore; the Napa Style catalog has all the things I need to make my kitchen a warm, loving place for people to gather around my pizza oven, and use all six kinds of my "fun" glassware, while snacking on eleven different types of artichoke spread. They keep showing us stuff we didn't even know that we need! I am definitely a conspicuous consumer - I fall for it all and I buy so many silly things. All I want to do is create a functional kitchen that is easy on the eye now, and at the same time create one that will be easy to live with a long time. I do have to agree with Peacock - it may be easier on the eye and on the budget to make classic decisions. Should you still buy the provencal yellow Lacanche range? Sure, as long as you realize that you will be looking at it and decorating around it as long as you live in that house. Maybe that's part of the problem - so many people in this country move so often that a kitchen re-design is rarely a permanent decision! Interesting thread. Good food for thought. Haha Flamingo... the $1000. is down at the bank. Just write a note and hand it to the teller. You might get it... but then again this guy might show up instead. lol

That's odd Nicole. Is the drop down menu there for your favorite sites? Maybe it has something to do with using HTML (for the scrolling)?

Anybody else having this issue?

The drop down boxes are there, using the arrow...but it's empty...

Is K home yet? Did she lose weight at her camp that she was working at? I wish someone would take all the junk food away from me!

Flamingo, K has been home one day a week... has 2 weeks left to work. She lost 5 lbs. so far, but she's not that big to begin with. She was keeping the "freshman 15" off until last year when she didn't have a kitchen and had to eat the cafeteria food 3 times a day. She says everything is fried there.

Oh, I never thought K. was overweight, I just wondered if the dietary restrictions at that place would have any effect on her. Did she walk in hungry every week? :)

My pantry is looking pretty slim right now, I'm waiting for Woody to go to the store, so I have my own dietary restrictions going but it's not helpling! lol

Mingo, K actually LOVES the food there. She says the fruit and vegetables are so fresh. They have dessert daily too. The girls get 1300 calories a day, the boys maybe 1600. She was stopping for a diet soda on her break everyday the first couple weeks cause she wanted something sweet... but she's quit that now. She was never a soda drinker.

She doesn't complain about being hungry at all... but she does complain about the lack of sleep. lol

OK, you got MY attention too!! LOL But it would be nice if I could get the $1000 too!! I got it done. I did have a little confusion on how to set the favorite, but soon realized that I needed to look under the GTS : Kitchen Table (instead of under GW) to find it.

This is one of the places that I've left my actual birthday intact ...

... but in several other situations where they've asked for birthdates, I've used my dead brother's date, but the correct year of my birth.

Birthdate is one of the major pieces of information used to identify people, so collected by scoundrels wanting to steal identities.
