Comments (23)Good Friday all, TGIF!! This has been a long week at work. I have been filling in for two who are on vacation for the month of August and I have been juggling. One more tough week and it will seem like I am on vacation at work when they return to doing their job!! Donna, your project sounds fun! Did you do the design work yourself or have someone help you? I love remodeling projects! Jan, don't be so hard on yourself! We are allowed to be as long-winded as we want here without judgment! What did you and DH do for your anniversary? Patty, good to see you here. I miss you since you went over to Facebook! Hope your meds are doing their job. Please don't stay gone for so long! Marci, sounds like you should be thinking about retiring! I really hope this school year goes well for you. When I am stressing I try to remember my favorite mantra "Be here now" it reminds me that I need to focus on the right now and not on one minute from now or one minute ago, etc. The other thing I do when I am obsessing is something our good friend Raeanne told me once: "Throw your troubles to the ground and let your spirit soar" These sound simple but for me they really work. Try it. Now!! LOL Let your beautiful spirit soar today! Raeanne, I am thinking of you. Good luck tomorrow I know it's going to be a smashing success! I hope we get another youtube of the event - especially the horse-drawn wagon. QOD: What are your weekend plans? We may have Bill affects here so I am kind of praying for some rain so I can stay inside and get some housework done! Also, I will be making a batch of my zucchini relish....See MoreHow was your Sunday? the 23rd?
Comments (5)Hey there Linda! I confess, Sunday's are football days for me. One problem though - I'm usually alone so when I yell, I hear an echo. The weekend was so beautiful here that I enjoyed it even though my team lost. Oh well... Other than that, not much happening. I'm so stessed with kitchen redo woes that I really tried to veg out for most of the day. I did help out a friend though. The company where he works just laid off a whole bunch of folks. He was one of them - after 20yrs!! I did a resume for him and did some job searches. Felt good about that - he's a good guy and deserves a break on this one. That's about how my day went. Monday I went to look at more granite at lunchtime - still nothing. BTW, one extra situp for you for eating all that pizza and cake!!...See MoreSaturday , June 23rd afternoon get together - ~1hr N of Boston

Comments (29)Part of the reason for turning our attention to New England is that the transatlantic journey to the UK is already a difficult one for my mother. Last year we went, and she suffered with a partially diagnosed back problem that actually compelled her to have back surgery the month following our return home. She was in significant pain for much of the trip, but somehow managed to "keep calm and carry on" for the most part. She's over that physical problem now, but realizes that she moves much more slowly than ever before and it's just increasingly hard to get out and do/see as she once was able to. However, England maintains its "magical hold" over us both, so I can't say we've ruled out the trip that we've been planning ... just wanting to weigh all of our options, and it does seem that New England holds a number of good ones! As for what we like to do ... Well, we mostly just enjoy the experience of being in new places and seeing how others go about their lives. We are people watchers, and enjoy meeting locals. We like historic places (although we don't tend to spend a lot of time in museums), places that are quaint, charming, and beautiful. We like to dine out -- nothing terribly fancy, though -- and have a fondness for afternoon tea. We like ice cream. We like interesting, quirky shops. We like encountering interesting, quirky people. We like seeing things that are very much unlike things we would see at home. I watched a few YouTube videos last night on New England, one in which a man talked about HATING to drive in that part of the country. He said that particularly in the summer and fall, roads are horribly congested, but that some of it can be avoided if one gets off the main drags and heads for the backroads. Is that easily done? Re Martha's Vineyard -- I've read that it costs around $140 or so take a car over on the ferry. Does that sound right? Does that include the return trip? Renting a car on MV is prohibitively expensive. I have never spent any time in Boston (although I'll be flying through there in a few days). I've looked into flying into other places such as Hartford and New Haven, and it looks like BOS is going to be our only option for non-stop flights on AA....See Moremtnrdredux_gw
