I Been In Sorrow's Kitchen and Licked Out All the Pans by Susan Straight. A great story.

If I'd Killed Him When I Met Him by Sharon McCrumb. She always tells a good story.

Dog on It: A Chet and Bernie Mystery - by Spencer Quinn. A great little mystery series with Chet the dog and his owner Bernie. Next in the series - Thereby Hangs a Tail.

Mennonite In a Little Black Dress - by Rhoda Janzen. Who could resist a title like that?

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. I was already a Moore fan, but this title got me.

I love Sharyn McCrumbs ballad novels. The stories are always so good.
I've read both of Spencer Quinn's books. The second is just as good. Don't you love how Chet thinks? And I have to admit, I love books that involve dogs.
I've read some Christopher Moore, but not that one. I'll have to look for it.
Sounds like we like a lot of the same authors. I don't know about you, but I have a bad habit of trying to convince everyone that they'll love books that I love :)

In the past I did try to convince everyone to read my favorites, but I've learned that reading is so subjective that I've pretty much gotten over that habit. I do still tell people when I find a good read or a new author.

I do love how Chet thinks. I'm debating getting his newest book To Fetch a Thief. Have your read it?

I really loved the early Moore books, but I've been disappointed in the latest ones -- couldn't even finish Fool. Do you have a favorite?

I'm trying to cut back, cause I know I don't always like the books other people do. I try to make it more of a suggestion, and try to push a book to someone I think might enjoy it.

I'm going to check out the Susan Straight book, as soon as I get through part of the stack I have now. I love having choices so I can read what fits my mood.

Yes, I loved "To Fetch A Thief". And you're right about Christopher Moore. I barely read any of "Fool" before stopping. I actually found it rather disgusting. But I liked "The Stupidest Angel" the best.

Another favorite book is "Assination Vacation" by Sarah Vowell. I had to see what that was about! She goes on a pilgrimage of sorts to sites connected to the assasinations of Presidents Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley. She's funny and makes me wish I was traveling with her. And there is a lot of fascinating trivia. That's the way to learn history. I'm listening to an earlier book of hers now, "Partly Cloudy Patriot", and it is just as informative and entertaining.

I borrowed Katherine by Anya Seton from the library just because that's my name (albeit spelt differently).

I love Anya Seton and KATHERINE was one of my favorites.

My newish book club was at my house looking up books on the internet. We found one we had to read- The last camel died at noon.
Unfortunately the title was the only good thing about the book. It was a mystery and that's really all I remember about it. It was over 10 yrs ago; but still...
I still like the title. It amazes me someone can have so much imagination and whimsy in a title but a boring book.

I was browsing at the library and came across a book I had read a few years ago. It's called "Last of the Donkey Pilgrims" by Kevin O'Hara. The picture of the donkey on the cover made me want to know what was going on. It's the true story of O'Hara's journey to Ireland to find himself. He started at his grandmother's and decided to follow the coast all the way around Ireland by donkey cart. He felt so bad making Missy (the donkey) pull him that he walked beside her most of the way. An engrossing story of the high and low points of his journey and generous people he met who welcomed and helped him. I loved this book!

I was intrigued by "The Curious Incident of the Dog in Nighttime" as a title. When I read it, it surpassed all my expectations.

The last Camel Died at Noon is one of the Amelia Peabody series, definitely not one of the better ones. If you cared to give the series another shot, I'd suggest trying the very first one, Crocodile on the Sandbank. I laughed a lot while reading it; my feeling was that the author was playing with the gothic novel genre and couldn't resist poking gentle fun at it.

She did this as well with the romance novel genre in Die for Love, which is set in modern times.

My Sister from the Black Lagoon - intriguing title, not so great story.
Peace Like a River - loved the titled, loved the book.
A Spot of Bother - by the same man who wrote A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime - but not as good.
Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff - really enjoyed it.
Gonzalez and Daughter Trucking Company: A Road Novel with Literary License - pretty interesting, didn't love it.
A Yellow Raft in Blue Water - such an evocative title. I really liked this book.
Don't Just Do Something, Sit There: A Mindfulness Retreat with Sylvia Boorstein - I like her titles and her books.
Happiness Is an Inside Job: Practicing for a Joyful Life - another Boorstein title.
All Over But the Shoutin' - loved the title, loved the book.

That's a few more that I came up with.

I have to mention the Hitchhikers series by Douglas Adams. All of the titles are priceless.

There was one published here a few years ago called "He Died with a Felafel in his Hand." From memory it was at least semi-autobiographical about a chaotic shared household in which the author had lived.
I'm about to read Robert Rankin's "The Japanese Devil Fish Girl and Other Unnatural Attractions", a steampunk novel. Must admit I was attracted by the title.
"Queen Victoria, Demon Hunter" was pretty amusing :-)
