Thanks, bostedo. After ragna's comment, I started to wonder where this photo limit is stated. And realizing file size might be an issue, I usually grab screenshots of my larger images. I just don't want to annoy everyone with a notification every time I post a separate pic. I'll try again: will limit to four pics and see if that works. Yup, Omar warned me about the P. caerulea. :) Here pictured with a little ol' bat face cuphea I purchased as a 4" plant last year -- I've since taken cuttings and have 8-10 more in the front yard, HOA be darned. I ended up removing the esperanza, which reliably ended up with very bad rust issues over the past few years. I've planted a wafer ash (started from seeds) in its place, and it's doing very well so far. I didn't get too much traffic on the blue porterweed, but the hummingbirds and butterflies went to town on my red porterweed: And my A. elegans (host to pipevine swallowtails) really took off starting last autumn, after spending most of the year as a spindly, 2' long, sparsely-leafed vine.

Oh I love all these pics! Oxalis is a favorite house plant for me. We are getting there with spring but it's been a slow start this year, a step forward then a step back over and over again. View from my pillow to the wonky little dogwood at the edge of the woods where nothing has leafed out yet. I call her Nancy - she has branches that form 2 Ys. I'll wait... 🤣 I wasn't fast enough to catch the male cardinal in the branches this morning, though.

Rebecca, I know it's not funny, but I had to laugh. I just came in from the porch, I was watching a gray squirrel digging around in the front yard. I grew up on this place, and almost never saw a gray squirrel back then. We did have a lot of fox squirrels, which I liked to hunt. The grays moved around so much they were hard to hit with a .22, plus they are smaller and have less meat. I don't remember starting squash or pumpkins inside before this year, but this year I played a little and started cucumbers and Arabat winter squash inside just for the heck of it. I have 5 Arabat squash potted up out on the porch that are about 2 inches tall, the seeds were removed from a squash last Sunday afternoon. I just wanted to see if the seeds were good. When I was cleaning the seed, I noticed that some seed floated, some sank. My guess was that the better seed sank, so I dried the seeds on a shop light and planted some of the floaters, which were up in no time. I think that this may go along with what Dawn said about getting the plants in the ground soon after they sprout.

Agree that it has seemed like a relatively cool, dreary spring (until the last couple days), but I think because we got spoiled with an early spring last year we're making the mistake of using that as the standard for comparison. The average temperature at my location for March and April together was actually pretty close to normal (March was a couple degrees above normal and April a couple degrees below normal). And according to the Morton Arboretum's GDD report, as of May 6 their location was actually slightly above normal (91 GDD's, with the historical average being 80 GDD's, base 50). Of course, if you are closer to the lakeshore your GDD's are probably a bit lower than the Morton's. I think this guy that I saw yesterday (5/8/22) would have to be considered confirmation that spring has definitely arrived

dido, my mistake it should have read Whisky Galore. It came up as 'wrong' on the spell check . . . as does much of what I write.
