A Special Birthday Book

Years and years ago, my mother had a book she loved very much. It was first published in 1944 and was one of a series of books by Elswyth Thane. The first book in the series was called Dawn's Early Light. The main character was a little girl named Tibby. The second book, titled Yankee Stranger was (obviously) about the Civil War but Tibby (now aged 95) is still an important character. In fact, the very first line in the book is "It was her birthday and she was ninety-five." It was this book, Yankee Stranger, that my mother loved so much. But the book was loaned out a long, long time ago and lost. She has actually pined to read that book again.

Well, happy day! The series was recently republished and I ordered, and have now in my possession, a new copy of Yankee Stranger for my mother's--NINETY-FIFTH birthday! It's still two weeks to go but I don't know if I can wait.

I just had to tell somebody.
