a quick question

Hi everyone

I have a query about a Christian Dior rose.

Early this year I transplanted it from a container to the garden.Its about 2 years old.

It is not thriving: just hanging on actually.

Would it be ok to move it again at this time or should I wait ?

I fear that if I wait it will konk out.

I think the spot I have it in is too wet/damp .

Hi Michelle, I move plants and trees anytime of the year if I think they are not in the right spot, and if they are nearly on their last legs I put them into a pot and when they get back to the way they used to be I plant them back into the garden in a different spot. If you think the spot they are in is too wet maybe a pot would be a better idea as you can regulate the watering and put it under cover if it rains. I look at it this way if it lives it lives if it doesn't well it was not meant to be.

I think if you take a big enough root ball without disturbing the roots you should not have any problems, Michelle I have dug up trees with big rootballs to find as soon as I have picked them up all the soil has fallen away much to my horror so I just plant it anyway and they have survived. So give it a chance at a second life.....Cheers..MM

Thanks MM for your quick reply.
I have just come in from the garden and had another look at it.
I had intended to put it in a pot and give it lots of TLC and Im sure it will recover.
I have done this before a number of times and only one still struggles.Thats gone down to the farm where the soil is wonderful.If it doesnt do any good there -there is no hope!That rose has been a problem for 2 years.I wonder why I perservere.
Today is a good day to do it and Ive got everything ready.
I'm sure now I will move later when DH gets back(sore arms) and I cant lift a teacup!

Pennsylvania is a state with a fair variety . . . What littlebug was saying was that labor costs per hour isn't a set rate. What one pays in well-off Philadelphia suburbs won't be what one pays in economically depressed areas and what might be the going rate in CA isn't going to be the same in OH or NH, big city or small town. "Aren't they literally just brushing it in with a broom and wetting it with a hose?" IME sweeping sand into the cracks in between brick or block is time consuming; one puts down sand and sweeps in many different directions, and then puts down more and repeats the process. If you don't want gaps and future heaving and cracking, it takes time. When you are paying someone labor, rolled into that is the cost of their tools, health insurance, liability insurance, time and gas money spent speccing out and tracking down materials, etc. etc., not just what you see them doing for the work on your sidewalk. All the things that make up the general cost of the job has to be divied up and included in that labor fee, along with their expertise. So whether it is reasonable as far as cost . . . is kind of up to you. Arre you willing and able to do the job? Are you satisfied with the quality of the work? Would you hire them again? If so, I'd say it most likely was worth the cost. Conventional wisdom is that one can have any two of three: fast, inexpensive, or done well.

I am in zone 6, Canada. I have many hosta in containers. Most are dormant but some are not. We are experiencing a hard frost now for a few days. I have moved the nondormant hosta in more protective areas and some in an unheated shed. I am planning to put them back outside again when the daytime temperatures are above freezing. They should go dormant soon. As you are in zone 7b, you are in a much warmer zone. It is not OK to leave them in the shed now until spring if they are not fully dormant because they will continue to want to grow. Growth will be poor. They need to be dormant before you store them for the winter.

LOL on formal crocs. When I had my oral surgery 2 years ago, i got the giggles when I was coming out of anesthesia ... one of the recovery nurses was wearing the sparkly silver crocs. As I became more alert (mouth filled with gauze) I just kept exclaiming that her crocs were "AWESOME". That gave my sister the giggles... the next day these arrived in the mail lol. I have not actually worn them but they are a fun reminder.

Yes, please tell her to read the reviews. I bought a pair of kick-flair leggings (butt-boosting too 😊) about a year ago and most reviews said ran small, to consider ordering up a size. With some hesitancy, I did and was glad. Those pants are like wiggling into a girdle - but once on, completely comfortable and look great.

Well I have good news Christian Dior has recovered beautifully!
It is as tall as me and has 5 beautiful blooms.
Lucky I moved it when I did or I would have lost it.
