Blue painters tape works great when doing caulk jobs. Just tape both top and bottom, run your caulk bead between the two, scrape clean and peel off tape right away when done, this really works slick and makes for clean edges.

@amberm145, youre apparently not the only one who knows it here but thats a great tip. My question is, I know the first coat has to dry or its going to smear the colors together, but if its important to peel off the tape when the second coat is still wet, what sort of application of the base is thick enough to fill, but not so thick that it peels badly now that its dry?

Gorillacookey, you can do multiple coats, let it dry in between, and peel off when the last one is still wet. Just get your coats done as quickly as you can, don't leave the tape on for more than a few days.
