I'm glad (sort of) that you've had a problem with a Delbard.
I had similiar problems with Papi Delbard.
According to the stuff I read and other people here on the Forum, it was supposed to be pretty smelly but the bunch I got from mine, was zilch! in that department.
I'm sorry to report that mine were inside, too.
Some were really open and one that opened when inside.
But that was only the first ones this season so I'm not giving up yet!!

yeah, you never know it could vary. I find some of the legendary smellies like Jude the Obscure, Evelyn adn Golden Celebration are quite variable.

C.P. is getting prettier every day with more and more pink on the petals, but I don't dare cut it to take it inside. I'm too curious to see it evolve on the bush. Maybe when the next few come out I'll cut one and see if I can coax (or behead) some fragrance out of it. The stems all seem very short.

I find the Delbard roses are extremely variable.
I bought a Paul Cezanne last year and there was no pink with the yellow on the blooms!
I went back to the nursery and asked about it and the owner said she had the same problem!
It has a nice perfume but every pic I had seen had the combination of colours which is why I bought it in the first place.
Someone on this board last year suggested that the plant may need a couple of seasons to mature-ok but if it doesnt I'll still be disappointed.
It does have a beautiful yellow bloom anyway.

Place any rose you like in a greenhouse and it's flower colour(and size) will change sometimes dramatically.Maybe this is where Delbards photographed their roses when they developed promo. material.Incdentally we have Henri Matisse in the garden for the first time this year.When I first checked this rose for perfume it had none.I checked it for several days,at likely times of the day......still none.Then, after the first spray of flowers was half way through it's display a lovely strong fragrance appeared.
Oh well, thats just the sought of thing that makes gardening so fascinating.

I finally chopped off the flower and brought it inside - and suddenly it smells exactly like Double Delight. I HATE THE SMELL OF DOUBLE DELIGHT! I've got a Double Delight-loving friend who'll be most grateful when I dump this rose on her. Even the colours will blend in. From now on I'm sticking to safe roses.

Well, atleast you've discovered it early and can substitute with something else.
Interesting how many people out there seem to hate double delight, either the perfume or the flowers or both!
