does wood chip mulch attract termites?
Comments (22)There are many sites on the web addressing this topic and some say yes and some say no. Some say don't put any kind of wood mulch by your foundation. The science that I have read says that if you have termites in the soil, they will like your new wood chip mulch. If you don't, it will not attract them. Based on the science, the issue is not wood but moisture. You should ensure that the foundation around your house is properly drained. If so, and inch or two of mulch will likely not create an increased risk for termite infestation. I've been using mulch around my house for 20 years (in NC) and have had no termites. If you want to be on the safe side, you can not put them withing 2-3 feet of your foundation - or if you must for whatever reason, apply an insecticide that will kill any termites around the perimiter of your house (you should be doing this anyway!) I have a half acre landscpape and a tree company removing trees kindly gave me a dump truck full of wood chips. I am using them on my garden "trails" over fabric cloth--they make a wonderful soft walking surface. I am also using them judiciously in an area that I want to look natural. I am putting a light layer on top of fallen leaves - which gives it a nice uniform appearance and prevents the leaves from blowing around. I will likely spread some insecticide in the entire area just to be on the safe side - and if it gets rid of the million tics on my property, that would be a benefit....See MoreDoes anymore have a Wolf that isn't chipping?
Comments (25)I'm on my second Wolf l doubles. The first were replaced earlier I'm the year for chipping. They were only in use about 18 months old, but were unused floor models so a little older. The chipping occurred in the front bottom corners of each oven and on the door of one of them. Bradlee Distributors was the distributor who replaced them. I did the manual-recommended burn-in on these. I noticed chipping in my new ovens after a short time. On these, however, I did the slow burn-in Kaseki recommended. I haven't called a Wolf yet as I was waiting until closer to the release of the M. I haven't noticed blue enamel in my food yet. We've noted here before the preponderance of us PNWers with the chipping. I still find that very interesting....See MoreDoes the black porcelain also chip on the Wolf GR 304?
Comments (4)We have the (slightly) older style Wolf AG range. Our oven floor was replaced a few years ago (excessive "tin canning"--flexing during oven use). It has screws like you describe, so I am guessing it can be replaced if needed. If the porcelain is the same as ours, so far ours seems okay. Burnt on/baked in stuff that sometimes "flakes" off onto the sponge when I clean the oven (I've never been able to clean it off entirely), but it doesn't appear to be any of the porcelain itself flaking off....See MoreDoes laminate chip?
Comments (1)Sure laminate can chip. Just drop something heavy on it as a point load. It can also swell and buckle if exposed to moisture or installed without an expansion gap. If it's shiny, but especially shiny and dark, it can show footprints and dirt much worse than matte, but that's a characteristic of shiny, not necessarily laminate. Wood can do all of those things as well, but there is more wood under the chip. It's not a printed picture of wood with MDF underneath. Wood can also swell if exposed to moisture, but about 70% of the time, if you dry it out fast enough, it will just return to normal with no real lasting damage. Wood also adds some value to your home. Laminate does not and never will. "Laminate wood floor" is an oxymoron coined by realtors trying to prey on the ignorance of buyers....See MoreRelated Professionals
