Rose from Coles..help needed

Hi everyone

I have bought what would seem like a miniature rose from Coles today.

It has no information on it anywhere and nobody in the store was able to tell me anything about it.

Does anyone know what it could be?..

They have been brought in for Mothers Day obviously but I was so taken with the colour I bought it!

It was $11.50.....hope I havent bought a dud.

I guess it would be a hot house rose, bred to bloom for this occasion. It has no perfume.

Much appreciated- guess I could pot it and leave it over winter? ...don't know?

I have attached a a magazine next to the rose to give an idea of height and size.It is just over 30 cms tall.

It looks a lot like a miniature standard I have called Peachy Keen.

Isn't it funny Angela how once they bloom they can steal your heart? Carol- I've seen a couple of singles that have stood out to me, but none really pushed me to buy until this one. I also bought it because it should cascade for me and the flowers are a nice size. Jean- I think this one should rebloom pretty well from the info I could gather- I'll let you know. Rebloom is such a plus. Les- I thought it might be Angel Face too at first, but just by eyeballing the petal count I think it's got to be something else. They had labeled it as Blue Girl, but I grow that HT and it's definitely not BG, but maybe something else that has the word blue in the name. I'll sift through HMF and maybe it'll come to me. Carla- I can't wait until your Paul Neyron blooms!! I planted two of them two years ago and this was the magic year. Both have been pumping out big fat, blousy blooms- I think Randy (maybe someone else last year on the OGR forum) kept telling me to wait it out. SO worth it! My question is, is your garage insulated but unheated? If so then you could garage it until spring. Put it up on some wood blocks and remember to water it some every month. You can just put a shovel of snow on the top of the pot when you shovel but roses need water over the winter and since it's inside it won't get that naturally. If it's not insulated then it won't really be much protection. With the past two winters we've had I'm thinking planting would be better. Do it ASAP so it has as much time as possible to settle in before the ground freezes. Bury it deep to protect the crown as much as possible. Don't winter protect it too soon. You have to wait until it is completely dormant to put any kind of winter protection on it, There are two problems with covering them too soon. The first is that if it's still warm and the little critters haven't made their winter nests they'll find those leaves make a great nesting spot and your rose is a built in food source. I lost a few roses that way one year. The second problem is the purpose of covering is not to keep them warm but to keep them dormant in the spring when the temps are fluctuating a lot. You don't want them to come out of dormancy too soon and then get hit with a late killing frosts. The heavy mulching keeps the soil from thawing out and encouraging the rose to grow before it's time.

If you have a lot of green stems, I wouldn't prune anything below about knee high. As far as thrips go, they come from a long way from the garden. A drench wouldn't do much good and would harm all the good stuff in the soil. What I do to keep thrips at bay is when my buds start to show any color, I spray the roses with an insecticide every week for 3 weeks. This also kills all the good bugs that eat the bad bugs. So I also wash under under the foliage with a good shot from my garden hose (thumb over the end to create a good strong flow) to wash away any bad bugs at least once a week. This usually knocks down the thrips in the spring and I do the same thing in the fall to have clean blooms to finish out the rose season

Is it really a dud if it doesn't have a name? I bought 4 pretty tiny roses last year, with no names. These plants may very well be un-named seedlings, so why try and attach the name of a plant that looks similar? Why not just give it a garden name?
Naming only becomes an issue if someone else sees it and wants the same rose. You could overcome this by striking cuttings. Also if you were showing or selling propogations from this rose, you would require a name. Otherwise, the name doesn't matter. Just enjoy this lovely little rose.

Hi Michelle,

There is a photo of Peachy Keen on "Help me find" but the colour is really off. It makes it look like a pink rose and it really isn't, but at least you can compare shape.
