Here is a picture of the bird flying if you notice the bird at the bottom of the page it is ok. What wrong? Anna

With the Oly 510, It's hard to get birds moving...I have one, and usually wait with button ready and focused...and I still can not get an in flight bird...Camera is not fast enough...I suppose you could eventually if you sit poised and ready to anticipate the birds next action...You did make me think of something, which I havent tried yet...what about the 'sport mode' under SCN? I'll have to check that out now...just didn't occur to me to try that! WE have birdfeeders in view from 3 places and have gotten lots of bird pics that way...but I use the 'shooting behind glass mode'...
However, I like the way the seagull looks suspended...

Hi with my kodax DX3900 I could get a bird in flight and without using the zoom. With the omympus useing the zoom its worst. This summer I will have to start learning this camera there is allot to learn.Anna

No birds on the zinnias this morning. Shoot. To add insult to injury, I was talking with my sis in the front yard yesterday when Mr. robin landed about six feet from us. Exasperated, I looked at him and said, "There you are". He hopped towards me within a couple of feet and I said "Sorry, bud I'm busy, no gardening today", then he flew away. You should've seen the look on her face!

I have a fern which I feel must be the kind you inquire about. My friend, who gave it to me several years ago when it was about to die, called it an alligator birdnest fern. Today I was checking to try to identify it more exactly, and your post came up. Is this what you refer to? and it seems to me that it does multiply by clumping, because I am about to have a local nurseryman separate and repot it for me. I do not want to chance losing it now. Actually, the long fronds are greater than 2 feet long. And while we are on the subject, I found a different style birdnest fern at the nursery I spoke of, sort of a clubfoot version, different from my other wavy edged and straight edged bird nest ferns. I am quite fond of these plants, and give them a place of respect in the limited shade of my garden. Hope this helps.

In Central Illinois- usually only see a few towhees the whole summer and have never seen them in the winter. There must have been a small flock of them that spent their days under the feeders in the yard this past weekend. Really enjoying all the photos.

The hawk in Menifee, CA can only be a Cooper's Hawk but it is an oddly-colored one. Something going on with the feathers, such as a heavy molt or missing feathers for some other reason. If you have other photos please post.

The wings, of the bird taking flight, are moving too fast for your shutter speed. However, depth of field is good indicating a small aperature and consequently slow shutter speed. Manual control is needed for some pictures and this is one of those.
