Yes it is the climbing Queen Elizabeth. A relative gave them to me last year in June. I set them out and they nearly died but this year they are doing well and they have several blooms but the canes are starting to spread out in my yard. I didn't have to prune it at all this year. I don't know much about this rose. I don't particularly like the bloom shape that much and seems like the bugs like it a little too much as do they all of my roses. Trospero you say it is total junk is it just a once bloomer or something? If it is I don't really care for once bloomers myself.

Thanks, Pembroke, that does help. I blew it up and from what I can see you had black spot at some point and that's why it lost all it's leaves. It may have been last fall. You should have pruned it back in April like I said before but for now I'd just take off all those brown tips that look like dead wood and some of those very small laterals. Leave all the thicker canes alone. I took your picture and marked some of the canes I mean. Take off the small ones marked in blue "X"s and leave the larger ones marked in red "X"s. I didn't mark them all but that should give you some idea of which ones I mean. Otherwise, like you said, the canes look green and alive. The only thing you can do is keep it watered and wait and see what happens. Hope this helps!

LBF it is true that a brug needs to form a "Y" before it will set buds. I think there's an exception to this rule with some varieties, but very few. Branching is not the same as making a Y. You will see unequal leaf bases where a plant has formed a Y. I have some brugs that reach 6+ feet before they will form a Y and others that will bloom while still very small. If grown from a cutting, where it was taken from on the parent plant can determine how soon it will bloom. If it was taken from above a Y it will normally bloom sooner then a cutting taken below the Y. Karyn

Your description does sound like CH is doing what it is notorious for... waiting to bloom until it reaches the top of that which it is growing on. High phosphorus levels in other plants encourage blooming but I just do not know if the plant will respond like roses do for example. Epsom salts mostly contain magnesium and some Sulfur. By the way, I am not sure how well the small tendrils will do trying to climb limestone rocks in your garage. Maybe someone has already tried and can chime in.
