I've never heard of it happening all over. Trigeminal neuralgia, or "tic doloureux" can cause excruciating sensitivity to the face and scalp. Shingles can cause extreme skin pain at the area of the attack. And lupus-related skin inflammations can occur anywhere. But like I said, I've never heard of such a widespread symptom. Hope it goes away soon.....

Only time I heard of this was with a friend who has MS and one of the flair-ups caused this. She said it felt like her skin was on fire. We were glad that flair-up didn't last long.

This is a long shot guess, but my friend is having "skin pain" problems and her doctor told her it is connected to her thyroid problems. Sounds odd to me, but that is what her doctor said.

My thoughts immediately went to Shingles and Hepatitis....neither is a good thing. I hope she finds out what the trouble is quickly.

Has you cousin gone to any specialist? Google Mayo Clinic or Web Md and put in what your describe that might help. I think even if you call them, they might offer something.

Two years ago I was using garden shears to prune a tree and I was using a lot of force to try to cut the branch, with my arms high above my head. I apparently strained something around the base of my spine, and although I had no muscle or bone pain, my skin from the waist down began tingling and then became extremely painful. The doctor said I damaged my nerves from the area of the spinal strain, downward.

The hyper sensitive skin made wearing pants extremely painful, as any fabric, seams and even a breeze on my skin, caused immense pain. Thankfully, within 3 weeks it slowly started returning to normal, starting from the toes and moving up. Within a month, everything was gone, except for one patch of extremely sensitive skin about the size of a fist on the side of my left thigh. It has never gone away, but I can live with it, knowing how much worse it was before! I was told that although my nerve damage was caused by straining my spine, a virus or any injury can also cause nerve damage. I hope your sister's will resolve soon, as I know how awful it is to cope with skin that feels like it's on fire or rubbed raw.

Carol...no...she had to go to the doctor yesterday but I haven't heard anything from them...I guess I'll have to call.

She hasn't been out of bed other than that.

She has always made a point of calling each of the girls every day to let them know she is okay. They said she has been calling each morning saying "I made it through the night" (many times it is just a message on the machine.

She's really feeling bad. I'm worried about her.
