Ouch! Sprained my ankle!

I had 4 wonderful days off this week. Didn't leave me apartment at all until last night when I went to check my mail. Lost my balance and foot slide from under me.

I can walk on it (slowly) but it is somewhat swollen and a little purple.

UGH!!!!

I hope you got it checked out, could even have a broken bone. Not worth taking a chance.

Remember RICEÃ¢ÂÂ¦..Rest, ice, compress, elevate. Ice for 15 minutes on 45 minutes to an hour off. when icing, ankle should be propped up above the heart. If it's still swollen tomorrow or you cannot walk on it, you would have it x-rayed. Hope you're feeling better tomorrow and do not need to have an x-ray. Some Ibuprofen should help, too.

Rob333 - Ligament(s) could be torn but it is also possible that it is just a severe strain (worse than a sprain) with no tearing. Never go into a non-emergency surgery without a second opinion from the physician of your choice. If you have a GP, ask them who they would send their family members to for an opinion on this. This rose bush and one other were here when I moved in 39 years ago. I never would have planted them myself. They are such a misery and located next to the driveway. However, the white blooms are so beautiful and fragrant. At night they seem to glow in the dark. They seem to bloom three times each season -- spring, summer and fall. In the summer the Japanese Beetles eat them. Nothing will kill the plants. I prune them at the wrong time, never dust them or care for them in any way but they just keep on keeping on. When I prune, I cut away the dead canes. Now, if it was a plant I really wanted, it would curl up and die immediately. Honestly, the thorny branches could reach out and grab a kid off a bicycle! Thanks again for the tips.

Sorry to hear about the broken bone, yikes....But, glad to hear you're doing well... A week ago, my oldest son was working on a car and dropped the radiator on his foot...Yep, broken pretty bad, can put no weight on it and is on crutches...Tell a 60 yr. old not do anything, yea right! He hasn't sat still for 60 years... When I was 13, broke my femur in 3 places, in traction for weeks and then in a body cast for months...But, while in the hospital, met the patient in the next room and 5 years later we were married....So, watch out for those broken bones you never know what you might catch, lol.....But, 60 years later, he's still here, so I guess I'll keep him for another 60.....

My father was terribly crippled from severe RA. He had a very noticeable, bad limp, big knots on his elbows and knees, and his hands were just twisted. He was in constant pain. I feel for anyone who has to deal with arthritis. Hope you feel better very soon Glenda. (and Moni and JoAnn and anyone one else who had to cope)

I got that horrible-looking purple, too -- makes you feel even worse seeing that! Does your job require you to do a lot of walking around? I'd make sure to have a little ice pack in a freezer, even a small bag of frozen peas to give your ankle some relief. My ankle was better within a few weeks. I agree with Marie -- if ibuprofen and ice and elevation (when you're home) don't seem to be alleviating the pain and reducing the puffiness, is there a nurse's office at your job you can go to?

You really should get it checked out. Years ago, I fell and sprained my ankle. When it still hurt several days later, I went to the doctor--I had a broken bone in my ankle, and was in a cast for several weeks.

I hope it feels better soon!

Thanks. I have been icing it; resting it and keeping it elevated. I have a desk job so I don't do a lot of walking around.
It doesn't hurt and can walk on it ok. It's just swollen in one spot and bruised. My problem is it takes a long time for bruises to heal with me so I will have a purpleish foot for several weeks.
