No home remedies for this... get yourself to a doctor asap. Rose thorns can cause serious infections! My brother had to have hand surgery due to ignoring part of a rose thorn in his hand.

Yes, get to a doctor. I also had a serious infection from a rose thorn. The infection got under a nail and I had to take antibiotics.

I ended up having surgery (real operating room surgery) on that hand because the thorn was resting on a tendon and nerve.

Dedtired, roses carry some potentially troublesome bacteria/fungi. And they don't dissolve. Why do these things always happen on weekends??

Whoa! I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to the doc for my flu shot so I will ask about the thorn, too. Scary!

Also get a tetanus shot too if you haven't had one, you are supposed to if you work in the garden.

Years ago I had a pyracantha thorn in my ankle. It took several visits to the doctor before he got it all out. Many years later I had a Christmas cactus thorn in my finger and had to have a doctor remove it. I am allergic to thorns.

I have a couple of those rose bushes with the letal thorns,and while the flowers from them are beyond gorgeous,i don't want to tangle with them and their thorns.So several years ago after we cut them back I had dh move them over by the shed,where I don't come in contact with them while just walking around the yard,but can get to them when I need and want to.

This rose bush and one other were here when I moved in 39 years ago. I never would have planted them myself. They are such a misery and located next to the driveway. However, the white blooms are so beautiful and fragrant. At night they seem to glow in the dark. They seem to bloom three times each season -- spring, summer and fall. In the summer the Japanese Beetles eat them. Nothing will kill the plants. I prune them at the wrong time, never dust them or care for them in any way but they just keep on keeping on. When I prune, I cut away the dead canes. Now, if it was a plant I really wanted, it would curl up and die immediately.

Honestly, the thorny branches could reach out and grab a kid off a bicycle!

You might try putting a piece of bacon around the finger and leaving it for a few hours. This works with splinters to help push them to the surface so you can grab the edge with tweezers.

Try drawing salve from the drug store. Not expensive and it works great. The smell is awful though. I use it for splinters. Always works great for me.

I hope you can see your physician soon. Ever since Susan (a.k.a. Alisande) had the problem with the piece of thorn embedded in her hand I've tried to be extra careful.

As much as I like my Knockout roses they do have loads of thorns. I now use my long handled tree pruners so that I don't have to get close to them.
