Ouch! Sliced my leg open last night.

I had a carving knife on the counter, and the cat tripped me, and I hit it. It fell, and the tip caught the front of my leg, opening up a slash about 1-1/2 inches long. It hurt like all getout! It was a terrible, burning pain! Surprisingly, it didn't bleed much.

I hung my leg over the tub, held it open, and poured peroxide into it. When it stopped bleeding, I stuffed it full of Neosporin and put some small bandages across it to hold it together. Bad part was, I hadn't had a shower yet, and didn't want to take one for fear of getting it wet, so I just sponge bathed the essentials, and went on to bed. It hurt a little this morning when I first got up, but it hasn't bled anymore that I can see. I'm gonna bathe and change the bandaids on it in a few.

I'll probably have a nasty scar, but it wasn't worth having stitches. When it finally stopped bleeding, I could see that the cut wasn't really that deep. I guess the knife tip sort of went in at an angle, so it's sort of sliced right under the top of the skin. I've had lots of "skin flap" cuts that healed fine, so this one should too.

Boy, if it ain't one thing, it's another.

Hope it feels better soon...that neosporin is a GOD in my house!!

Oh man, just reading that makes me hurt. Dang cat...lol

Baby it, and lots of bandaids to keep it clean. ouch!

Marda, is he chewing like crazy? That's what our dog did when he was getting his grown-up teeth. No shoes were safe! And as an aside, why do they always like the most expensive ones you own? No major injuries here (knocking on every piece of wood I can find), but my dog has developed epilepsy. Poor thing & it's pretty darn scary when you see a dog going into a grand mal seizure. He's now on Phenobarbital which seems to be controlling them, however the drug does make him pee like a maniac about every two hours.

My now 13 yr old DD would ALWAYS pick a tomato over (of all things) candy when she was a toddler, didn't care if it was store bought as long as they were cherry toms.('weirder' the color, better she likes them, use to be a great veg stand open yr 'round in Bend) Now she has a very firm opinion on what we plant, how we do it, and lives in fear that it's not enough. There long about Nov starts talkin' about next yr...........sigh, I've done well My now 18 yr old DS decided at the ripe old age of 3 that he hated toms of ANY kind. (but LOVED catsup) just before he was 4 his Dad and I broke the awful truth at the dinner table about catsup's origins........He was truly horrified! BUT, he started eating tomatoes and now it's a foot race to the garden at the first of the season (and dang does he have long legs, good thing I'm still meaner ) We are a pretty pathetic lookin' group (myself DH, DD, and DS all tryin' to get the first few toms) Good for your daughter................I bet you're proud..

I think we have pretty much established what led to the problem I know you think you have, but I can tell you flat out you are mistaken. First of all normal dominance is rarely the reason behind such serious dog-to-dog aggression. This goes way beyond that. Even a certified behaviorist isn't going to suggest any behavior modification without a clean bill of health from the Vets which will include more than what you have had done. Not your fault jus that the health of the dog that died may have been a huge factor. Anyway a behaviorist will come and see the behavior of each dog to see if the dog dogs has poor socialization, lack of structure, weak nerves, etc. and than see how they inter- react with each other. If you can't afford a behaviorist than please get a hold of this guy at the link supplied below ...explain all that has happened. I think you will find him to be very unbderstanding and helpful. Thanks, ladies. Yes, it's a lot of fun and it seems like the ladies are really outdoing themselves every year. I do have an idea for next years ornie, in fact I have almost everything I need to make them. I saw on FlickR some ornaments that look like those candied fruit slices, you know the ones you see in the nice candy stores, they look like a slice of orange, or lemon, lime, etc. They make them in citrus colors and red.... well, these were felt, 2 colors in each one, like dark green/lime green or dark yellow/bright yellow, etc, and covered with "sugar", which was a square crystal glitter. Simple, but VERY CUTE. I was thinking of making a set of 3 for each lady. I bought all the stuff to make them in case my ships didn't turn out. So I'll be making those, and I won't wait until early December, either! lol bRAT Kat- those are his little mittened hands you're seeing, ya perv! lol It's not a good photo, I realize that. He is absolutely the most charming, old-fashioned little guy, we all flipped over him. The 2 girls on either side of me, their guys had glittery felt shoes- mine has plain. I told them their little guys were gay. lolol And their little scarves are so cute, a tiny button holds it in place. He is perfection. I recommend these kinds of parties to everyone. What a great way to get together, have lots of fun and good food and be creative AND get a huge assortment of ornies. Oh. I don't do a tree anymore, I'm sad to say. Too many cheesy cats in this house that would tear it up. I keep some of the ornaments and share some with friends. I have a lovely assortment in boxes! lol Thanks, WC, about the cat. I hope to hear from the vet this morning that I can pick him up. Fingers crossed!

Ouch! Sounds like something that would happen to me-lol. I tripped over Lauren telephone wire that was partly out in the hall this morning, twisted my ankle and almost fell. Hope you heal fast!

you sound like me...Day after Easter I cut the end of my finger trying to carve a piece of Ham...It cut quite deep under my fingernail....It just finished peeling dead skin off about a week ago...

Then last week I was making homemade hash browns...and grated a deep spot on my knuckle...It is beginning to fill in....but it sure hurt. I hate getting owies on bending parts. They never stay shut.

Hope you heal quick.

Use lots of that Neosporin.

It hurts just to read what happened to you. My best friend is Neosporin. One thing I learned from various Emergency Room visits (myself and 2 kids) is to use a "butterfly" bandage to hold wounds closed. Cut two "V" shapes in the bandaid or tape, so there is a narrow piece just crossing the wound. I also hope you heal quick! Doctors are always amazed how fast I heal. I once went back a week after stitches to get them removed, and there was no need. The skin had already grown over them, they were "dissolving" stitches anyway. That was a cut on my forehead. I still have the scar.

Well, Deb - all the more reason not to have cats! LOL Keep using soap and water to clean it, follow with peroxide and neosporin. Expose it to the air as often as practical. That's sorta like I used to do when I shaved my legs with one of those old-fashioned double-bladed razors - I was always taking a nice chunk of skin off my shin!!!

I could be wrong but I've heard to only use peroxide to clean the wound in the beginning, using it after healing has started will just 'eat away' the part that has healed. Sorry I don't have time to look up more info for you but I've got to get ready for work. Take care.

You sound just like me. When I was getting ready to drop the girls off at my folks I opened the car door while I was bending over a little bit and cut an inch and a half gash in my head on my forehead. I went home and had DH put a butterfly bandage on it. I ended up getting some of that liquid bandage stuff and painted it on, it reminded me of nail polish almost. It really healed up nice and didn't leave much of a scar at all.

Yeah, stop using the peroxide. Neosporin is antibacteria ointment. I had a friend who was diabetic. She kept getting boils that had to be surgically removed. They never stitched her up, just leaving the wounds open to be nursed and bandaged. Because I took care of her, I was told to clean them 3-4 times a day with distilled water.

Neosporin says it will reduce scarring potential. I scraped my leg very, very badly once while shaving. I couldn't believe I did that. Used my Topicort, and no scar at all. Also split my finger open with hot welding wire when I was a welder. Used the Topicort on that too and no scar. I can't find either of these wounds.

Don't ya hate it when we do these stupid things???

Years ago, my mother was carrying a bowl of veggies and a very sharp knife...She dropped the knife, it hit the floor and bounced back up and into the top of her foot...It hit the artery and she almost bled to death before they got her to the ER...We lived on a farm and it was common to say, "so much blood, looked like someone had stuck a pig"...Well, that's what this looked like...Freaky accidents!

Hey junkyard - are you out there having fun, girl!!

So sorry to hear about this one. My Mom was a nurse practitioner, working in the health service of a large university. I can't tell you how much neosporin and bacitracin my body has consumed!! I was always falling and one or the other was always there. One day I looked in my medicine cabinet and noticed I didn't even have a bandaid in the house. I now have Neosporin and bandaids!!!

Best wishes on a quick heal. It's probably too late now to do anything about sutures, but are you sure you don't need the tetanus shot? Just a cautious warning...
