I hope it's just air in the pipes, but if not, try to get in touch with the water company or the city. They may have turned off your mom's water where it connects to the meter or main line while they were fixing the line and forgot to turn it back on.

Our neighbor had this happen while the city was fixing a burst line behind her house, but they couldn't reconnect for some time. What they did was to connect water to her house from the main line in the alley, bypassing the water meter, until repairs were made several days later.

Your mom is lucky you live next door, so she can use your sink/shower/toilet if she needs to.

Are you saying there is water all over her house except the kitchen sink, or is there no water flowing from any faucets at all?

If the former, as you wrote, check the aerator at the faucet. It's just screwed on, so turn to twist it off. Rust usually gets in there.

Once the water is turned off, rust settles in the pipes. It's rare rust would block both the hot and cold pipes, but it could happen. If the problem isn't the aerator, you'll have to bang pipes to reposition/re-distribute the rust.

I hope she has water elsewhere in the house. Keep us posted please, as I'm curious if it is just the one faucet...never heard of just one thing not working.

I decided long ago (when the water happened to be off for a while) that I could live a lot more comfortable without electricity, than without water. When you don't have water, there isn't much one can do.

It's just the kitchen faucet that she has no water. She has the veggie sprayer faucet and I laid it in some vinegar hoping maybe it was clogged with deposits but that didn't do anything. There is also an aerator at the other end of the sprayer but I'll have to check that out tomorrow. Checked things out and they have not shut off the water at the meter.

I'm thinking maybe it could be an air lock????

Or, as Bestlawn suggested, maybe debris from rust????

Sue, you're right.... I'd rather be without electricity than water. After Hurricane Isabel, we were without power for 5 days and without water for 9. Being without water was far worse in every way. :(

I have about a dozen, more or less gallon jugs, carry two to a double grocery bag.

Have carried in all of the water that I use for cooking and drinking for a couple to three years (in the first I was officially resident in the city, but spent part of most days here).

Not a big deal I've done it in the past (many years ago).

Hope you get your Mom's water problem straightened out without a lot of finagling.

While I have no suggestions other than the problem seems to be in the faucet, I completely empathize since we currently have no regular water supply -- a new neighbor evidently drove over a critical area where the water main to 18 homes is located in our small water system. Luckily, we have a slope above our house on which we installed a gravity-flow tank for limited water use, but I understand the frustration.

mtnwomanbc - yes, it was in the faucet and we got it fixed. The worse part was mom had turned off the ice maker for some reason and we had assumed the problem must be ahead of that line, but in actuality, it was the veggie sprayer line which was clogged. Of course that was the last line we took apart. :)
