And, this is my best friends daughter singing. After the funeral my daughter said she wanted that song on a CD..and she wanted Eirene to be the one singing it. Then, my MIL said that if Eirene recorded it..SHE wanted a copy. We found a guy (has his own group) with a recording studio in his home. My friend and I took Eirene to his home and in less than a hour..this was the results. The man even did the CD cover for the CD. Eirene's picture on the front..and inside is a picture of Ronnie and underneath the picture it has "In Remembrance of Ronnie"! My daughter and MIL were both pretty happy! My daughter has listened to hers, but my MIL hasn't been able to listen to hers yet!

I think that things went well. In the beginning, when thanking the people (hardly an empty chair) for coming to share their joys and sorrows regarding their friend, that their home and family and their friends were important to Jean and her husband who died seven years ago, and that I wanted the people to imagine that they were sitting at their friend's kitchen table, or in their living room, or on the back deck, so to feel free to make a comment, ask a question or speak as they felt moved to do. I asked their daughter, who spent time in Hong Kong and Shanghai and has spent several years with an interest in Buddhist concepts, whether she would like to include some Buddhist readings ... and she said not, but that she appreciated the offer. When I asked whether she'd like to speak, as the males did, (equal time) she said that she feared that she'd break down and cry, and even before the gathering, she demurred, but when I offered, during the gathering, she came and spoke of her mother ... and for part of her talk, I stood with my arm around her. One of the boys made a montage of slides of various family members, involved in various activities (a substantial portion of it, eating) and played his trumpet, and another played a piece on the keyboard, along with the speaking. I said that there's been scarcely any civilization where they had no belief in a spiritual power that takes an interest in our world, and that now, with many saying that science has made all of these superstitions unnecessary, so many have placed religion on a back shelf in the closet of the spare bedroom ... but even the modern folks say that they are spiritual (but not religious) - whatever that means. But I felt that we should make it a part of ordinary living - like salt that adds flavour to soup, or leaven which makes bread more tasty and interesting. That when God made the world, s/he took a great risk, in giving us free will, which I deeply appreciate: not wanting to be like an ant, part of a line, following a predetermined path. While God doesn't hit us over the head with a 2 X 4, forcing us to follow, s/he seduces us - tells us that s/he loves us deeply, and wants us to love, in return ... ... and to go out and build a world the way that s/he would like it to be. What a wonderful challenge, privilege and responsibility that God wants us to be involved in - to be co-creators with Him/Her of the beautiful world that it can become, tomorrow. Built on concern for and help to others, understanding, compassion and love. Starting tomorrow, and the day after - but really beginning today: right now. We have a sick old world, and we need to work hard not to build walls, keeping people either in, or out: but separating them, whichever. How much more creative to build bridges of understanding. I am SO sorry! I forgot to post! She didn't make it..least not that time! She's going back in January and try again. The night before the try-outs she did karaoke at a place here in town (to practice). Practicing seemed like a good plan at the time..but she she probably put too much strain on her vocal chords. They DID tell her she really really needed to come back in Jan!! I'll keep you posted as it gets closer!!

I haven't seen this thread either. It's been an interesting read. Growing up Methodist in the South,, I have attended my fair share of funerals. I do not care for open caskets. Would rather remember them up and about. I have only attended traditional funerals, nothing more fun like Funkyart's trout stream story. The most moving was the service of DD2's friend since they were 2yo. They were in 7th grade when they found out she had leukemia. She died within 2wks. It was a Jewish graveside service. One gal from HS seems to have the hobby of posting about deaths, the information on services, and attending funerals. Even those she wasn't friends with, just knew of. I totally do not get that obsession. For decades, my father made it very clear he hated HATED funerals and wanted to be cremated. He wasn't the approachable kind, so I never asked why. When he died by suicide, Mom was close to death, so I just had him cremated and spent as much time as I could with her during her final weeks. Per his last written wishes, her ashes were put in an urn with his, and a few months later we had a private, immediately family only dispersing of the ashes. Only one (a married couple) of his lifelong friends kept questioning me on when was the private memorial. Even one of their sons said to me several times "they want to be included." Um, no. All of their other friends understood. Honestly, I do not want a funeral either. Neither does DH. As far as the poster that said those left behind do not get closure without a funeral or memorial service, I have to disagree.

Lkgrace, I'm so sorry. A fellow I graduated high school with, died a few days ago. Cancer, not covid. They made a video memorial for him, but not sure when they will have his service. I have only lived in very small towns...most of them rural. Funerals where everyone who knew the deceased shows up. If at a church, versus the funeral home, the ladies of the church prepare a meal in the fellowship hall, for the family and anyone who wants to attend. It is still common for people to bring food to the home of the deceased. I want to be cremated, versus buried. I don't want a funeral or memorial of any kind, but I think the way things are done in the small towns are very nice, and tho those things may eventually change, I don't think it will be any time soon.

All four of my grandparents, along with both of my parents, both of my husband's parents, my brother, and my first husband, are all there, too... Fantastic song. Eirene has such a beautiful voice.

Hmmmm...I'm not sure what's happened, but it was working earlier.

Everything I have read or heard about you and your husband just shows sooooo much love. He was a lucky man in his life to have that kind of love...and you must have been lucky to have him.

I hope my husband feels loved like that...I try.

I finally was able to access the file this morning. It's a very beautiful and comforting song. Eirene has a beautiful voice and the recording was very well done.

I get a message it cant be opened because of a corrupt or incorrect file type and its reccommended I cancel the download cause it wants to save in my computer somewhere?

I did look up the lyrics online yesterday because I couldn't hear it and what I read was VERY beautiful!!!!
I wish I could hear it sung!

I'm not sure what's up with that site. It seems to work sometimes and sometimes not!

I have the song saved to my computer and I'd be happy to email it to anyone that can't get the site to work..and wants to hear it.

That song was so pretty. While I was listening to it I opened my myspace page and saw where today is the anneversary of the loss of my friends baby. That really made me cry. Is there anyway I can send this song to her? I don't know how to copy it from here.
