My final (for this year) health insurance decision

For those who might be curious about what I decided to do about supplementing Medicare.......

I decided not to get the cheap Advantage plan (Geisinger Gold). IâÂÂm not a good duckling (following the crowd) when it comes to medical care, and I donâÂÂt think I would do well with all the strict monitoring that comes with an Advantage plan. Getting permission for procedures, etc., and being forced to stay within the Geisinger system sounds like way too much of a hassle--and worse, could lead to poor health care.

So IâÂÂm switching from the pricey Blue Cross supplement ($240/mo.) to AARPâÂÂs United Healthcare supplement ($136/mo.). Same coverage, and same freedom. IâÂÂll work on finding ways to increase my income, but at least this new policy will save me $100 a month.

I was interested to learn that the much-advertised December 7 deadline applies only to Advantage plans and Part D prescription coverage. I'll be able to switch to United Healthcare later this month.
