A Prayer Request

I know KT prayers are powerful. I've asked before, when my cousin judy had a massive heart attack right before Christmas, and when my other cousin Joyce (her older sister) fell and broke her hip and also had a heart attack. Both recovered and are doing very nicely. Back to the subject, my Mom is in trouble and needs the help you can only get from God. She's 87, a widow, blind, a life-long smoker with terrible COPD and emphysema, on oxygen 24 hours a day. I talked to her Sunday, she was alone in the house and not feeling well. I told her to call my brother, who lives with her but was out of the house. She didn't. On Monday morning she got up but couldn't make it down the stairs. My brother carried her down stairs. He called her doctor, who said his office was closed but he should take her to the nearest Emergency Room. Mom agreed, but decided to use the lavatory first. Walking to it, she collapsed so brother called 911. An ambulance arrived within 8 minutes and took her into the hospital. She's there now, but in serious shape. They say she has a flare-up of emphysema and pneumonia besides. They are treating her with steroids and antibiotics. Worse, my brother says she's very depressed and scared. She doesn't want a phone or TV or any visitors. She even said "I don't want treatment or surgery. Let it run its' course." That has me terrified. I don't want to lose my Mom, especially at Christmas. Please, all my KT friends, please whisper a prayer for Gloria, mother of Jannie. I know God hears you. And thanks from the bottom of my bottom.

I'm adding your dear mother to my prayer list. Do you live close enough to be able to go to be with her, even if she says no visitors? Keep us updated.

In 1966 we lost DH's mom with a suden heart atack on Dec 21. We went on with Christmas for the kids. I am sending prayers for the family. Gloria, we are praying for you.

DH had his prostate removed 6 weeks ago because of cancer. He had the choice of removal, or radiation and we chose the removal, for various reasons. Medical surgeries have come a long way! His was done robotically and the recovery and hospital time is cut drastically. He was released the next morning. A common side-effect is incontinence. Hubby wears Depends all the time, but he hasn't had any accidents where he leaked out. He makes sure he goes to the washroom every couple of hours, so even when we're out for a length of time, he goes to the washroom. Thank you Tina. Jeannie, has been strong for so long that it makes sense she breaks down now and then. I think she feels comfortable doing so with me. She knows I can take it. After all we come from the same strong bloodline. Granted, I often break down after we hang up or this weekend on the way back to the hotel, but if she can be strong going through all this, I can be strong for her when she needs it. I thought I'd be able to cry with her, thinking it would make her feel loved, but it just didn't seem right. I did tear up, but the bloodline kicked in and the strength took over. It's just the way we are. Saturday our daughter texted to tell me that a neighborhood friend of hers and her brothers, (we all knew him and his family well, but lost touch after we moved) died last Wednesday. Our son who went to the visitation Sunday and found out it was cancer. He had a brain tumor when he was about three, shortly after we moved to the neighborhood. He was 29. Thank you Jen. I'm so glad she's home too. I don't know if I mentioned earlier, but her hubby had just been in the hospital about a week before she was. He's an artificial valve. I was thinking it was something else, but found out this weekend that it's a valve. I'm going to call Jeannie tomorrow during the day hoping she's feeling more up to talking or maybe even Skyping. I want to thank you all for giving me this outlet to talk about Jeannie as it's helping me more than you know. I know your prayers are helping Jean, and the rest of us, too. Thank you!

So sorry Rich. The same kind of thing happened to my best friend's mother, so hard to go through. But you did the best you could so hopefully time will help ease the pain of it. Meanwhile, sending loving thoughts to you and your family as you go forward in grief. Sounds like you have some helpful folks around which makes a big difference at a time like this. So sorry for your loss!!

I can't just visit her. I'm 450 miles away, I have health problems(kidney dialysis in hospital three days a week) and so does my husband (who has MS and I take care of him.) .

My prayers are on their way. This is a very trying time and more so with health problems of your own. If your Mom is religious maybe you could call to the hospital and speak with the church representative - it may help comfort you a bit if you could talk a bit about your Mom with them and they could visit on your behalf.

I'm just thinking out loud.

Jannie I am so sorry to hear this. Yes indeed, God does hear prayers. My own mother passed away 3 years ago from COPD, diabetes and kidney problems, so I understand what you're going through. It is good that your brother is there most of the time, because it sounds like she's going to need more help and care as time goes on. There are many good websites about COPD that tell you what to expect and what your options are, etc. so you and your brother can be prepared. They were a big help to me at the time. I'm going to be praying for you, your brother and your mother.
