The Kitchen Table

inexpensive stocking stuffer

I tried to include these in my Christmas cards to the KTers and the post office wouldn't mail them They said they were too thick. SO I had to take them out. If you google BUTTON AND PAPER CLIP BOOKMARK you will see what they are. I had bought these cute lady bug buttons and I could't even send them.

You could have sent it first class but it would have cost more.

We don't do stockings, but do wrap several small presents to open on Christmas morning. Here are a few ideas: Anything from Cherry Republic (their cherry salsa and dark chocolate cherries are the best.) Haribo licorice. Sizzling cinnamon Jelly Bellies. His very own bottle of green Tabasco sauce. A travel cup with lid from Tervis Tumblers. A minor emergencies kit for the office: travel sizes of Shout stain wipes, Tylenol, Pepto-Bismol, breath mints and a little sewing kit. A small travel case for a single necktie, complete with tie (for when the stain wipe is not sufficient and he has a late meeting.) Monogrammed playing cards. Cufflinks. Collar stays (you can find really nice ones as well as disposable versions.) Car charger for his cell phone. Engraved flash drive. I need to get shopping - usually I'm done well before Thanksgiving, but not this year.

I love to make things and shop crafts sales, but I hardly attend them anymore because items are really repetitive - how many booths with hand painted signs do you need at one craft show - so many booths are Tupperware-style sales, and I have seen nothing new in years. Plus, most of my friends and family are downsizing. As has been mentioned above, we are clearing out the clutter, although I do still have a soft spot for hand made items created by people I know. I happened to see this today on FB in a quilting group I follow:

I ordered a card game called Game of Phones that you play w your cell phone in a group. It is described as sort of a combo cellular scavenger hunt and Apples to Apples. I also ordered a mug with a map on it. It comes w markers to fill in the countries (or another version of the mug has states) you have visited. You fire it in your oven. You can add more later and fire it again.

For "books about young couples and their interactions," maybe something like Helen Hoang's The Bride Test? A vietnamese girl is invited to America for an arranged marriage, and the rest of the book is about the intended bride and groom sending mixed messages to each other while falling in love. Amusing enough that it kept me reading even though that type of book is not my usual fare. For romantic comedies of manners that are not contemporary, there's always Georgette Heyer.

I'm surprised that they didn't let them go in the mail.
They don't look all that thick. Too bad they wouldn't have hand-sorted them.

They sure are cute!

I send things that are thick or bulky all the time, they charge an extra 20 cents for them as they are non-machinable. A lot of my things have shank buttons on them, which are super thick.

Maybe you should try a different post office. I can't imagine anyone saying something can't be mailed.

That is my experience also.

See the link below for the size and restrictions on First Class Letters, Flats (ie Large Envelopes or padded mailers), and Parcels.

Being and old 'seed trader' I became quite familiar with the regulations.

I can't imagine anyone saying something can't be mailed.
Yes, about 'anything' can be mailed, provided one is willing to pay the required (or additional) postage for what is being sent.

Here is a link that might be useful: Physical Standards for First Class Mail
