Cologne/Perfume samples are my personal favorite for stocking stuffers, especially when I was a teen. I still give one to the ladies on my list.

My DD's and I love Papyrus. They are a great source for note cards paper, etc. Their things are so beautiful. My DD was the " accounting department" for Uncommon Goods a few years ago. They are a very unique company owned by a man who is very concerned about his fellow man. I was interested to learn about it.

I would like to support them more, but too much of their stuff is for drinkers! I do not drink alcohol and rarely serve it. I was disappointed with their latest catalogue for that reason.

Rita, I just ordered embossed blank notes from an Etsy artist as part of a birthday gift for a good friend. She loves bike riding so when I searched an artist that does tone on tone cards came up.

Last night we were in Grand Central. they have the Holiday market set up. I bought a few organic lip balms from a vender. Then......I had DH buy me a cute necklace for my stocking.

Grapefruit, I have bought cards with beer or wine on the front for those that indulge in beer and wine. But most times, I get florals. They do change the inventory in the stores. I frequently go out for sushi with one friend and they had an unbelievable sushi decorated card, three dimensional. Often I buy cards when in advance when I see something that hit the nail.

Terriks, I found those Rocher's last year. My DD's got a kick out of them since they do like that candy.

For friends (not stocking but they definitely would qualify) I bought some bookstore candles from "Frostbeard" on etsy. Some great, unique scents!

Hey, I just saw these reusable straws! At $24 they are a little pricey, but they come with their own cleaning squeegee and collapse into a container about the size of a TicTac box!

As I have been on a quest for good chocolate for awhile I think I'll give her a try. I'm not a chocolate expert (far from it) but I have been disappointed in my quest. It seems even previously popular brands/names are all tasting a bit waxy compared to chocolate of yesteryear.

As someone who walked a long way once in the fall rains with a horn comb in my pocket, I have to warn you to be aware that when they get really wet they smell exactly like they are still on the cow. I can't begin to tell you how popular I was with every dog I passed. But they are supposed to be excellent for long hair.

ETA Yowsa, those are expensive. I bought mine by mistake in a monoprix in Paris a couple of years ago when I was in a hurry, and about fell over when I was charged €11. At the time I just thought of the French saying that if you bought it in a monoprix you paid too much, before I realized it was real horn and not just horn-patterned plastic.

Metal spatula - my fish spatula is my favorite kitchen item.

I also use a mini whisk almost daily (making salad dressings or marinades, simple frothing of milk). They’re useful and so darn cute.

Silk pillowcases - supposedly better for your hair and may prevent facial wrinkles. I can’t vouch for it, mine just arrived and I haven’t used it yet. I can’t wait to see if I wake up with less bedhead, and not the sexy bedhead but the crazy-should-be-medicated bedhead.

Did anyone mention games like Uno or Left-Right-Center? Those are inexpensive and would help fill up the stockings.

well it's for a friend who has long hair.. and a cat she adores..so I figured-if she's not gonna use it for herself she'll comb her cat..)) lol

sometimes she likes my gifts and sometimes she thinks they're too much. I've no idea what she will think of this. It's not for now..it's for when I see her next time, I need something small and light, I bring so many gifts when I go abroad, it's a consideration.

I can share it's hard..15 years of getting/sending gifts abroad..and sometimes they're a hit, sometimes a miss..and I really, really try not to repeat myself, and there are many people I keep in mind..this year it's been 3 times I either brought something myself, or sent with somebody who went there, or sent now (express btw. sent almost a month ago-still not there). It gets very frustrating

By the way when my MIL goes home, to her abroad, to visit-I'm in charge of gifts too..and I don't even know these people-she instructs me a bit and then I find it..

So many great ideas! Just remembered one from years past: bookmarks with the person's name and the qualities associated to that name. They were usually always complimentary. They'd have the lucky number and precious stone associated with the name as well. Any little personalized thing like that makes for a fun stocking stuffer. I'd find those in Hallmarks or the like.

I've been treading closely and taking notes. Lots of great suggestions! I've already purchased some Lenox thermal travel mugs for our school secretaries, with intentions of picking up some bath bombs and small packets of good chocolates. CindyMac, I don't think I've seen anyone else mention this, but when you buy something with PayPal, the vendor uses the address on your PayPal account as your shipping address. That is probably what is going on with Paper Sharks. I found that out the hard way when I bought something with PayPal a few years ago, after we moved into a new home - I hadn't updated my PP account with the new address so the item shipped to the old one. I appreciate it when vendors double check the shipping address!

Bluebell, yes that's how it normally works, but didn't with Paper Sharks. I wrote to them and discovered the site is having problems. They've been unable to accept payment for the past few days. I could have called with my order, but decided shipping cost was too high.

I also wrap individually, tartan...and, one year, I had seven stockings to fill...

I was going to skip it this year, but that idea was met with shock :) It seems that the stockings are more popular than the actual gifts.

One dumb thing everyone seems to like are the Tide pens that you keep in your pocket/purse/car. Boring but appreciated. Also Thinkgeek has some fun stuff..ETA 50% off everything for the next few hours..

I ordered a card game called Game of Phones that you play w your cell phone in a group. It is described as sort of a combo cellular scavenger hunt and Apples to Apples.

I also ordered a mug with a map on it. It comes w markers to fill in the countries (or another version of the mug has states) you have visited. You fire it in your oven. You can add more later and fire it again.
