I have Malwarebyte, recommended by the Computer Forum.

I have a package deal that comes with my cable internet, anti-virus and firewall. I also use Malwarebytes recommended by the Computer Forum.

on the computer forum we always recommend malwarebytes free and also superantispyware also free, in addition I highly recommend adding spywareblaster free, no scans to do just open it and hit update weekly then enable all protection so the shield is green, it protects you when online.

I use Norton Security Suite and it has done a good job of keeping the nasties out. I bought the 3 seat version and have intalled it on my desktop, my wife's laptop, and an old laptop I revived. It does not bog the computer down like my last version of McAfee did, and is faster.

Comodo firewall and I use the Comodo Internet security on my one machine. My older one uses AVG, Comodo firewall and I have the following on them both (in order of preference):

I disagree with the philosophy of only using one malware checker. I switch between them in case one detects something the others don't. And I know the CHF is wild about Malwarebytes but I have never had it find anything Spybot did not, and I've had many times where Spybot found things Malwarebytes did not. And I'm not talking about false alarms. There's a number of old emails with attachments that I kept for testing purposes. Not scientific but gives me a comfort level that it's doing it's job. When one says "you're clean" when I know there's issues on there, their credibility is dubious. Spybot is an old, established and respected program that took years to win me over from AdAware, but they eventually did. Although SuperAntiSpyware gets very good reviews from a lot of respected sites, there too I haven't found it find much if anything the workhorse Spybot does not.

None of them are resource hogs. I generally let it run while I'm not using the system. A little reminder: With all of them you're better off doing a system cleanup first. Get rid of temp files, empty the recycle bin, toss useless and duplicate files and old copies of downloads that are obsolete. Your system will have more space and the programs won't have to check as many files, ergo it'll take less time. Then do a disk check and defrag your drive. For that, I like Iobit's Smart Defrag and Ccleaner's Defraggler.

System security is a multi-layered approach. There's no one program, brand or type, that will cover all bases. I compare it to securing your home. The reality is, it's less important WHAT you use (assuming you're using decent programs - they're not that much different) the important thing is to DO IT. And remember to update definitions before use.

I got rid of Norton a long time ago. Takes over your comp and makes it run slow. Had AVG and took that off and now have dowloaded the Microsoft Security Essentials. It found a trojan virus with first run (that AVG never found). I love it and it does not slow down the comp. I have Malwarebytes also, but have not had to run it, as MSE seems to catch all that.
