What have you been reading? I finally finished reading a book called Sewing Circle. It has four stories in it, Tumbling Blocks by Andrea Boeshaar, Old Maid's Choice by Cathy Marie Hake, Jacob's Ladder by Pamela Kaye Tracy and Four Hearts by Sally Laity. It took me some time to get them all read as I leave this book in Amber's truck and read a little at a time while I wait. What is everyone else reading on?

I'm reading the second book in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris - Living Dead in Dallas.

Are you kidding? LOL I don't have time to read right now. After this week things should calm down a bit and I can get back on a normal schedule.

Yes, Arum, I read it several years ago... great book... it really gets to the meat of the matter about the internal dialogue we all have with ourselves every day, almost every waking minute when we're not talking with someone else or actively mentally engaged in something else. The simple act of learning to think "I'm a capable person and I can do what I set out to do, etc.," rather than "I'm such a loser and nothing ever goes right for me," and so forth, can have a powerful impact on how successful we are in our daily lives. I probably need to go back and read it again, though, as I've fallen back into some of the old, bad habits. Enjoy the book and try to apply what it says. I highly recommend it. Jeff

Natal, I find it very interesting that you call ME out for use of a word in reference to MYSELF instead of one of the several other people in this thread who have used the same word to describe other people in a more negative fashion. Yes, I do call myself a redneck, in the same sense as comedian Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might Be A Redneck If..." (which fits most of my family to a T, and me too, to a level that many of you would find rather surprising). There's a great deal of his material on YouTube too, just put "Foxworthy" in the search box. For many years I was very ashamed of my background and lower-class family - who do quite gleefully refer to themselves as "rednecks" - until I decided to accept them and join others in reclaiming the word with humor and affection. (Contrary to popular belief, rednecks are not confined to the Southern US.) Many ethnic groups are now using normally-pejorative slurs as humorous in-group terms - see Carlos Mencia's use of the word "beaner" to refer to his Mexican heritage, but a non-Mexican person calling a Mexican a "beaner" would be considered very insulting. That's the point of in-group slang. Several times now you have interpreted tongue-in-cheek comments of mine as being serious ones (and often being rather snotty to me in the process). I shouldn't have to put smileys on everything I say, so perhaps you should just skip my posts.

I just finished Framed: Astonishing True Stories of Wrongful Convictions by John Grisham and Jim McCloskey. Depressing to think how wrong our criminal justice system can be...not because of errors or innocent mistakes, but because prosecutors and police get wedded to the idea that someone is guilty and the seek all the evidence they can, including paying informants, withholding evidence and lying, to see themselves proven right...even after incontrovertible proof comes out that they are wrong. 4 star, but not for book group unless they have a stomach for the disheartening. Next up is It's Always Something by Gilda Radner. My library is doing a reading challenge with a myriad of topics to choose from between now and mid March: book with a color in the title, or book you didn't read in school kinda of stuff. So I'm pouring it on for awhile.

I've just finished Kosher Chinese and loved it!

Halfway through The Sex Lives of Cannibals. It's humorous and I'm really enjoying it.

Just started Little Women (I'm catching up on the classics in my 'spare' time)

January's book club selection is: The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratts: a novel in pictures (my first picture book since I was 2 LOL)

February's book is: The Fate's Song

I just started One For the Money-janet evanovich,last night.Seems like it will be good so far.

I just finished Desolate Angel by Chaz McGee. It is a mystery with a twist.
The main character is dead and is sort of a ghost, I guess.
He was an alcoholic detective who got killed in the line of duty.
He and his partner, who was also alcoholic, solved a case and later the ghost discovers another body with the same horrible way of dying. So he realizes the wrong person is in prison.
The dead ghost detective goes on trying to help his old partner and a young woman detective solve the case.
It has lots of nuggets of wisdom and was a joy to read.
I got it via my Kindle from our local library.

I'm reading Janet Evanovich too. Explosive Eighteen. I've read all the others. Before that I was reading The Scottish Prisoner by Diana Galbaldon. I love her books.

I am a voracious reader. I belong to a book club but also
read whatever I can get my hands on. If a friend
recommends it, I read it. Sadly I miss out on TV.
I find myself to busy wanting to read the next chapter.
I just finished these books...

Agatha Raisin and the quiche of death by M.C. Beaton. (loved it very funny)
Before Versailles: A Novel of Louis XIV by Karleen Koen(If you have seen the man in the iron mask this will explain it all)
The siren queen : an Ursula Blanchard mystery at Queen Elizabeth I's court by Fiona Buckley.(terribly confusing got bored)
Ladder of years by Anne Tyler. (started out strange but turned sweet at the end)
Major Pettigrew's Last Stand: A Novel by Helen Simonson (FANTASTIC!!)

i'm reading fannie flagg's "a redbird christmas" and working on one of debbie macomber's books. i'll probably have a little extra time to read, now that christmas is over for another year. ;)

I'm still working my way through Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books. There are 16--I'm now on #7, "The Persuader". Thanks to the person here who recommended these books, because I love them!

I got a Kindle for Christmas, still learningthe ropes. I want to get The Help, but there was a problem with my credit card, darn!

Just this morning I finished Blue Heaven by C.J. Box. It was most excellent.

Think...modern-day cowboys in north Idaho; good guys doing bad things; bad guys trying to do good things; and bad guys being evil. A damsel or two in distress (but not the simpering 'oh pityful me' type damsels). Fallen heros. Tears.

I have it in my iPod; it was iTunes "audiobook of the month" a few months back. I had downloaded it but just now got around to listening to it. I'll be 'reading' it again, too.

Like several posters above, I thoroughly love the series with/about Jack Reacher, Charlaine Harris, Janet Evanovich, Anne Perry, (the WWI series) and M.C. Beaton (both the Agatha Raisin and Hamish MacBeth series).

Becoming Marie Antoinette is next on my list...unless I get pulled in by something else, LOL!

Desolate Angel sounds good, too; thanks for the head's up.

I so appreciate the monthly "reading" posts. I've read so many interesting books after learning about them here.

I am brand new in posting to these boards but have been reading them forever. To Jannie regarding The Help. I just received a Kindle and borrowed The Help from my library. It said there was quite a waiting list but I got it in just a couple of days - free too which is great for me!

caroline I have Blue Heaven in my to read on my ereader! We have several of his books.

Janet Evanovich has long been one of my faves, have read every thing she has ever done, she and her daughter are super nice people.

I read the Help and really liked it now I want to get it on PPV on tv.

Jannie maybe someone here who has The Help on their kindle could do a lend me to you if that book is available for that (not all books are lend-able). Or you can search for a kindle lend me forum/site.
(why I love my android readers once I have a book it is mine to do with what I want just like a real book I purchase)

Just finished The Personal History of Rachel Dupree. It was great.
