Thanks, everyone. Yes, I mentioned the barn quilts here when Terry told me about them, some months before she got sick. It's funny--people comment all the time about the family resemblance, but we didn't look anything alike when we were younger. I looked like my dad, and Terry looked like hers. But when we got older (a lot older), we apparently started looking like our mothers' side of the family. I guess it became quite striking. We were delighted when people said we looked like sisters.

Oh, Molly, my friend really did a good deed. Boo had never experienced a home, soft places to lie down, affection, or play. She didn't know what to do with any of it at first. But she's learning! I saw two photos of Boo, one taken when they first got her, and the other just recently (a few months later). What a difference in her expression and eyes!

I guess we just differ in our definitions of "simple" and "sweet" when it comes to books-I don't find Hardy simple, either-but I am looking at the writing style and the plot lines, and the effort needed to read him! I think of sweet as something that makes readers go "aahhh" and smile. But the fact that we all have different responses is what makes this site so interesting. For instance, elsewhere, someone said she didn't like In This House of Brede because it was sad-I find that book exhilarating and positive.

Marten Troost (NF travel) * The Blackwater Lightship - Colm Toibin * The End of the Affair - Graham Greene * The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind - William Kambwanba (NF about wind energy in an African village) * Jewel in Crown - 1st in Raj Quartet - Paul Scott * War Brides of WWII - Elfreda Shukter and Barbara Scibetta (NF) * No Fond Return of Love - Barbara Pym * Beach: Short Stories about the coast - Ed.
