Cocktail Party Dress - Opinions needed

Dh and I are invited to a cocktail party for dh's work. The invitations says "Cocktail Attire Requested". I bought this dress for our anniversary a couple of months ago. Is it formal enough for the occasion? Or do I need to go dressier?

Thanks ladies! EJ, there are other pics just not forum friendly! LOL Karen, you are right, we are not that far away from each other. Yes, Justin has lost his baby fat and buffed up some. Gina and Ellen, Southern CA is sounding real good to me now. Cathy, the fountain was fun but not sure I would do it again. For a bunch of younger kids yes, even though the adults liked it too. I think a fondue would be better and you would not have to use so much chocolate. I used 14 cups of chips and 1 3/4 cups of oil. I tossed a bunch of chocolate the next day. The machine ran fine for about 4-5 hours and then it made some funny noise and started choking so to speak. We shut it down for awhile and then it ran fine for another hour or so. I think something may have got stuck in the auger??? I will say it wasn't as messy as I thought it might be. Yes, some drips on the counter but the floor and my rugs made it without a drop. Actually, the whole house survived very well. One small stain in the dining room but it cleaned up great. It's made by Rival and she said she picked it up at Big Lots. Thanks again everyone!! David

I made BLACK PEPPER ALMONDS for TG nibbles while watching the game and they were very good and easy. Also had some left over garlic butter with a bit of basil and mixed it with almonds and baked them along with the Pepper Almonds. BLACK PEPPER ALMONDS Butter for foil (I just sprayed with Pam) cup unsalted butter Â¾ cup brown sugar 4 teaspoons water 4 cups (1 pound) whole almonds, skins on 1 tablespoon black pepper (freshly ground pepper for up-front pepper heat, commercially ground pepper for background bite) 2 teaspoons table salt Preheat oven to 300F. Line one or two rimmed baking sheets with lightly buttered foil. Melt the butter in a large, deep skillet on medium heat. Add the brown sugar and water, then stir until the sugar dissolves. Stir in the almonds, pepper and salt. Cook at a fast bubble for about 5 minutes, stirring often. Spread nuts in a single layer on the baking sheet(s). Bake for 30 minutes or until the nuts turn a deep golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool a bit, then separate the nuts into individual pieces. Keep separating the nuts until theyÂre fully cooled and dried. If nuts are sticky, store in frig. Michelle

It sounds like you're all set. Great! I got a bunch of catalogs yesterday and just thought I'd mention a dress I saw when I was ordering from the Appleseed's website. It's not a maxi and is still sleeveless, but because you can pull it in and tie it in the back, it looks adjustable for fluctuations in weight. They have a 40% off one item promo code APNEW. I saw your pic last night and was too tired to comment. You looked great in that dress and glad you were comfortable and had a good time. Not much advice for Minnesota as it is hot here too. Do you have a sweater type longish cape or ruana that would work over pants, jeans or leggings? You could wear or carry it on the plane and use it when it’s chilly.

Perfect, and you won't freeze to death in it, either. :) (That's always a big criteria for me, warmth, especially during the holidays.)

LOL Jim. Glad you're a "male-type person". It's nice to see a man's point of view.

I like it as well! Also as Flamingo mentioned it'll keep you warm. Seeing people in sleeveless dresses in the cold climate makes me shiver. News casters drive me crazy when they dress like that (then freeze and have a heater blowing under their desk) Duh.

True, but once in a while it's fun to play 'grown up' OF, and the dress is very very lovely. Glad you are prepared and have a great time.

Thanks! I think I'm going to wear it. Now I need to figure out jewelry. Told dh I need bigger diamond earrings for Christmas. LOL! I'm really not a jewelry person. I need something that goes with my necklace.

This is a useful dress. They're showing it rather 'dressed down' except for the strap shoes. IMO it needs some help to qualify as 'cocktail attire'. (Open shoes for sure. A tiny, dressy purse. Crystal or diamond jewelty for sparkle. Possibly a little cocktail hat or other bit of flash in your hair?)

The dress is nicely low key for an *office* party. You probably don't want to be 'memorable'! LOL

The invitation is encouraging dark suits and dresses -- and discouraging jeans and bland work attire.

Will you please report back about the party? Tell us what everyone else was wearing. (This could be interesting!)

The dress is very nice and appropriate for the occasion. If you wish to add a bit of pizazz (and the room will be well heated), wear something that has a little lower cut to the neckline and add a necklace. However, that black dress having some accent is great (as pictured).

I think it's very pretty. I also think it def needs the sparkle treatment. Glittery silver open-toed shoes, matching bag, jewelry (some combination of necklace, earrings, bracelet, cocktail ring, hair comb).

I would never be able to wear that indoors, way too hot for me haha.

How fun to dress up. Maybe we could see a pic of you and DH all gussied up???

I think it's chic and rather sophisticated. It would be pretty simple to add a little sparkle for the holidays. I would probably wear some fancy drop earrings, not too big, in crystal. I have a pretty evening bag, black and heavily bugle beaded, with a crystal clasp. Wanna borrow it? ;-)

I'm not a jewelry person, either, and always think that a little extra glitz goes a long way!
