Cocktail party menu

We're planning a Trim the Tree cocktail party on the 8th, and I'd love to brainstorm with all of you on the menu.

I know there's been a few hors dourves menu discussions lately, but they all seem to be for more of a heavy-hors dourves kind of event. Our cocktail party is advertized as such, and with it beginning at 7:30, guests will have had dinner before they come. However, with the bar spreading christmas cheer, we definitely want there to be munchies.

So far we've decided that we want to have mini quiches and chocolate dipped strawberries. We've been tossing around the idea of doing baguette slices with an assortment of spreads (bruchetta, roasted garlic spread, tapenade) and possibly cheeses. What do you think? Should we plan a heavy option too like meatballs or a chicken skewer? Another dessert option? About how many different items should we choose?

This is our first cocktail party, so we barely know where to start foodwise. We have the cocktail part covered with a fully stocked bar and a few holiday inspired suggestions. Any and all advice very much appreciated :)
