Great idea!

In my area it is against policy for police officers to accept gratuities (even coffee). On occasion I have been able to pick up their tab at the convenience stores for their coffee and snacks. The clerk just has to tell them it is "already taken care of". They have no choice in the matter then.

For years I have given Law enforcement officers, Firefighters and U.S.Armed service personnel I meet anywhere American Flag tack pins. (CT started the tradition after 9-11 and since her passing I've kept it up.)
I think the funniest episode was when I gave an officer a tack pin and thanked him for doing a hero's job, after he gave my DH a headlight out warning citation. The look on his face was priceless.

It's strictly prohibited around here too. However, you can make donations for similar things. Donate an amount to go for refreshments for the department or the like. My old partner used to be able to take homemade things to the station but they knew her or probably wouldn't accept it and I wouldn't blame them. Deviled eggs were real popular. I'd suggest calling the station and asking what you can do. A contribution to an officers fund for families of those killed in action or something like that is always appreciated.

And I'd add too that the fire department shouldn't be forgotten either. They're often less recognized than the police.

For years a group of about a dozen businesses have gotten together and coordinate a lunch that we deliver on Christmas Eve to the public safety building that houses the police and fire departments. It's our way of saying thank you and we make sure that there is enough food for lunch and supper.

That's a wonderful idea.

We had a young deputy shot and killed last night in Orlando. It was a traffic stop and a career criminal shot him twice in the head. They later found the suspect and he had killed himself. I keep our Officers and our Military in my prayers daily.

Do you mean like the one that was tail gating me today.We drove by he pulled out behind me,my daughter said mom look how close he is to you he was right on my back.

How about the one that stopped me going downhill @ 26mph, a mile over the speed limit. I saw one yelling and I mean YELLING at a little old lady he had pulled over. :0) Not in my world would I ever thank the police officiers I've met.....GEEZ....I think the cold weather freezes their brains....in my little town they terrorize and bully people. Mafia mentality.

I always thank firemen and police officers when I am near one. While at CiCi's Pizza yesterday an air man came in and I thanked him also. He was not a pilot but he flies with them. They all do a great job.

Well, for those who look at Police officers with such disdain, I suggest the next time you have trouble, call the local street corner junkie. Yes there are some bad apples on the police forces, ad there are in EVERY line of work, but to hate them all just because you had a bad experience, in my opinion, is not fair. Your right of course, but makes me wonder who you will call in the time of need.

I've never heard anyone in my life say things like about police officers. Oh, maybe my nephew, he had been sent prison, so probably had a grudge against law and order. LOL

I live where the the department is so corrupt I can't bring myself to call them officers. First hand knowledge.

Kudos to the good police officers who take their duty to serve and protect seriously but not in my town.

I'm sure some will say but "they can't be all be bad". To that I say as long as they protect the bad apples amongst them they are just as culpable as if they did the misdeeds themselves.
