Does Your Church Have..............?

Does your church have a children's Christmas program they put on? Ours does and it was today. So funny! The first thing the preacher's little under two years of age twin grandsons decided not to stay in place to sing and disappeared into a side room to be rescued by a teacher and the preacher's wife. Then the rest started their singing and in a bit one cute little blond probably less than 3 years old, dressed in a fluffy white furry coat decided she was ready to go sit with her parents, so she left. So the remaining 10 children sang several good Christmas songs and several really got into the music. It was enjoyable. Does your church have the children put on a Christmas program?

Yes, the children's group in our trans-denominational church did sing for us this morning and a couple of the older kids put together a spiritual rap -- very entertaining and uplifting.

Yes - it was last Sunday. Christmas Eve they have
a "live" Nativity. It is so cute. Last year, the
little donkey stood looking around at everyone the
whole time. LOL They are so cute.

FYI the Wegelias have all been popped out of the ground. Had a track hoe on site for other work this week and he did this favor. So if you've been holding back on the Wegelia because of digging, they are ready to haul. Jim

Mom and I are coming to collect as many as we can to donate to our local charity which feeds low-income families by building them kitchen gardens and food plants to grow. Your timing is perfect. I also have several pepper plants and chard that I've grown to donate, so I'll just add this to the bounty.

When I buy food for $1.00 in the store to put into the gift-for-the-needy box at the store, the firehall or my church to give through an agency to the needy, perhaps the goods that I buy is what the agency really wants, perhaps they'd prefer some other things. The store owner is happy, because he sold food at retail that I wasn't about to buy for myself. Some food stores allow me seasonally to add an amount that I choose to my food bill, to buy a meal for about $3.00 for a needy person or family. That money goes to the agency that gives out the food and they can buy whatever they feel is most needed. And they buy it at wholesale price - getting that $1.00's worth of food for, say, 80 cents or so. But who gets the tax deduction for a charitable gift? The store, of course! However - if I visit the Food Bank and write a cheque for that 80 cents, they use it to buy the food that they want, that would have cost me $1.00 at the store ... and they give me a receipt for 80 cents, my gift to a charity. They buy the goods that they need, for a price of the 80 cents. When I calculate my income tax, I get a tax credit at low rate for my first $200. of such annual contributions, federally and provincially. But for each dollar of contribution above that $200. annual rate, I deduct at the top rate, both federally and provincially. That means that I was able to get $1.00's worth of food for a hungry person at an actual after-tax cost to me of about 50 - 60 cents. That seems to me to be a wiser use of money than for me to buy the goods for charity at retail price in the store. A lot of what we have is grassroots organized. I recall when my son was in 6th grade a team he was on had practice starting at 4PM daily. School got out at 2:25. If he took the bus home, he arrived home at 3:15, and would have to turn around and i would drive him to the field. This impacted him and about 6 other kids that lived out in the country. Another mother and I asked the school for a room, and we rotated meeting there with the boys, bringing an afterschool snack. Kids did homework or played board games, or we went on the fields with frisbees and such if it was nice. We have bike 'train' that facilitates kids that live far out having a safe way to bike to school. The 'train' has stations where kids join or depart. They also have fun rides. We have 'in the gym' after school activities, these vary but there is hula hooping, kazoo band, volleyball, obstacle course, etc. School libraries are open for 2 hours after end of school day to provide a place for study and hanging out. Town library is awesome. School bus drops off at the YMCA in the next town, so you can get there, but you will need to figure out how to get home.

Yes - ours was last Sunday, too. It's such a thrill to watch them perform - they are SO CUTE!

There's just nothing like watching the little ones perform, is there? The mishaps are what makes it so extra special. Even when you don't have ones of your own in the program, it's still just so much fun to watch.

This reminds me of when our children were little and participated in the church Christmas program.
The kids, instead of going to the Sunday School Nursery like most Sundays, they sat with us for the sermon.
After our minister said The Lord's Prayer and people were very quiet, my daughter, then age two, said in a loud clear voice "Mommy, that man knows our special prayer." We always said The Lord's Prayer at bedtime.
I got some many positive comments after the service.

We had a wonderful Christmas program. Oldest was 3rd grade to a 3 year old. One of the teacher's wrote the poem-story about the birth of Jesus, and the little ones were dressed up and most had memorized the parts. I cannot believe they remembered the parts. Even the 3 year old It was great!

my 3 dgds out of state, had one last week. i'm sure dil here probably sang..she's very good..

my kids are "old" enough they still had christmas programs in school, and always performed.
