Boy, does that look cold. We just got 5 inches of snow the 26th. It warmed up and rained but we still have a couple of inches on the ground. If you go a couple of miles from here they don't have any left. Weather forcast is calling for snow down to 1000 feet today. That is us, so we may get some more. Sure does look pretty when the trees are covered like that.

My sympathies, Hrose. I hope it doesn't stick or isn't too wet to break things and this is just a minor blip. We often get a wet snow around this time of year and it doesn't hurt the plants at all because it melts right away. your garden is so beautiful, I truly hope you don't get any serious damage. As per the pics on my bird-feeder post, we just have a dusting of the white stuff. The ground is crusted over, and the pots that I need to put greens in for Christmas decorations are frozen solid. It was -5C and sunny today. SW Ontario got the same dump as TM. Americans ALWAYS ask Canadians why we don't celebrate Thanksgiving on the 'correct' date!! lol. Now the cat is out of the bag - - we have kept to the tradition!! I'm pretty sure it was FDR, and he did it to stimulate pre-Christmas sales...I'm not an economist, so I have NO idea how that works!! Now, as to cooking the turkey, in our family, we all have inherited these great Wearever roasting pans. It has a lifting tray with handles, a 'sleeve' to increase the heighth of the pan, and vents, and of course, a lid. I stuff my turkey, at both ends, cause we all love stuffing, lots of stuffing and cranberries. I rub the bird down with extra virgin olive oil. The stuffing has chicken broth in it, along with fresh sage, thyme, onions and S & P. I dust it with poultry seasoning, and roast it at 300F, 1/2 hour per pound. The vents are never open for turkey. I don't baste for the 1st 1/2 of the cooking, and take the lid off for the last hour, basting lots at this point. The crackly breast skin is highly prized by some family members!!! Fist fights are discouraged, though!! Cameron, do you do the boil for your turkey?? I've heard that's very southern!! Cheers all.

I'm always amazed that every year about this time, people start talking about this odd, warm weather, global warming, what a shame, and all the negatives that come with it. These winter thaws have been a yearly treat for as long as I can remember. Instead of people lamenting the bad stuff attached with it, I'd love to hear them say, "Wow, what a gorgeous day! I spent the whole day hiking, gardening, biking, etc." You'd think they could find some good in it. I look at it as a vacation to another climate for a day or two. LOL.

Picture is awesome. The wind we've been having probably pushed all that snow your way. I looked at the glistening sky today - it was so pretty; like around 4:00 in the afternoon at the beach. But the wind made me know, I wasn't at the beach - brrrrrr!

The snow we have had this last week really made my new white truck look dirty so I washed it today. I am going to try to wash it once a week during the winter.

So beautiful. I'd never survive, though. I'm freezing when it's 60 degrees here in Louisiana and I certainly wouldn't be able to drive in it. Getting the fog off the car windshield is enough aggravation for us. lol My husband used to live where it snowed and he is so glad that he doesn't have to deal with it anymore. I love your pictures!

I just realized that you are from Canada. It reminded me of how my roommate in college was from Canada and she used to laugh at me when we'd go outside and I'd be bundled up thinking it was cold and she was able to go out in short sleeves and wasn't cold at all. I guess it's all in what you get used to.

Oh how pretty...I always say I would love to have a snowy winter just one year....now that it's been so cold here, unusually cold for us I have changed my mind! LOL....I'm freezing here. I can't imagine living in snow...but the pictures are so,so pretty. I just love seeing all the pictures of everyone's snowy yards!
