Boy, does that look cold. We just got 5 inches of snow the 26th. It warmed up and rained but we still have a couple of inches on the ground. If you go a couple of miles from here they don't have any left. Weather forcast is calling for snow down to 1000 feet today. That is us, so we may get some more. Sure does look pretty when the trees are covered like that.

Oh, Ms. Luna, I'm so glad I am not the only one to talk to their car. I have named mine Miss Margaret, but call her Miss Maggie when she's in a spunky mood (in short galloping down the road rather than ambling and yes, I pat mine on the dash board when we make it through a tough spot or keep encouraging her with "You can make it, come on girl." I've always said that machines truly have minds of their own with a little mischief thrown in for good measure. Glad you made it home safe and sound. Please give "Bess" an ATTA GIRL for me. Kirk, hope you guys are beginning to thaw out up in the northwest. Loved the plate flowers on the other posting. When my 87 year old Dad walked by and saw your pictures he was impressed with what you had done. Think Spring!! It will be here soon (despite the groundhog prediction). Toodles, Ms. Faith

My sympathies, Hrose. I hope it doesn't stick or isn't too wet to break things and this is just a minor blip. We often get a wet snow around this time of year and it doesn't hurt the plants at all because it melts right away. your garden is so beautiful, I truly hope you don't get any serious damage. Smiles, Lyn

As per the pics on my bird-feeder post, we just have a dusting of the white stuff. The ground is crusted over, and the pots that I need to put greens in for Christmas decorations are frozen solid. It was -5C and sunny today. SW Ontario got the same dump as TM. Americans ALWAYS ask Canadians why we don't celebrate Thanksgiving on the 'correct' date!! lol. Now the cat is out of the bag - - we have kept to the tradition!! I'm pretty sure it was FDR, and he did it to stimulate pre-Christmas sales...I'm not an economist, so I have NO idea how that works!! Now, as to cooking the turkey, in our family, we all have inherited these great Wearever roasting pans. It has a lifting tray with handles, a 'sleeve' to increase the heighth of the pan, and vents, and of course, a lid. I stuff my turkey, at both ends, cause we all love stuffing, lots of stuffing and cranberries. I rub the bird down with extra virgin olive oil. The stuffing has chicken broth in it, along with fresh sage, thyme, onions and S & P. I dust it with poultry seasoning, and roast it at 300F, 1/2 hour per pound. The vents are never open for turkey. I don't baste for the 1st 1/2 of the cooking, and take the lid off for the last hour, basting lots at this point. The crackly breast skin is highly prized by some family members!!! Fist fights are discouraged, though!! Cameron, do you do the boil for your turkey?? I've heard that's very southern!! Cheers all.

Here, I plant out the frost-sensitive stuff the 1st week of June. But all of May, I collect a huge amount of grass clippings and stockpile them by the veggie garden, so when we get a forecast below freezing, I go out and make a huge heap of clippings all around the tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. I'd say I have to do it every other year. Then there was that one year, we got down to 17º on June 22nd, and in spite of everything I did, it all froze off, but I managed a decent harvest anyway. But that was the year the acorns froze, and the bears decided that the local 'hood was way easier to find food in than up in the hills, and a resident population is now firmly established.

The snow we have had this last week really made my new white truck look dirty so I washed it today. I am going to try to wash it once a week during the winter.

So beautiful. I'd never survive, though. I'm freezing when it's 60 degrees here in Louisiana and I certainly wouldn't be able to drive in it. Getting the fog off the car windshield is enough aggravation for us. lol My husband used to live where it snowed and he is so glad that he doesn't have to deal with it anymore. I love your pictures!

I just realized that you are from Canada. It reminded me of how my roommate in college was from Canada and she used to laugh at me when we'd go outside and I'd be bundled up thinking it was cold and she was able to go out in short sleeves and wasn't cold at all. I guess it's all in what you get used to.

I can't imagine living in snow...but the pictures are so,so pretty. I just love seeing all the pictures of everyone's snowy yards!
