Do You Take the Time to Register a Complaint? And a Compliment?

I try very hard to do both. And one of each is going in the mail today. Yes, I did it the old fashioned way this time.

My rheumatologist's office is getting a long overdue complaint. They are usually pretty good but there is one gal there that is a real slouch. For 4 years I have tolerated her but I was lied to this time and am furious. She is the one that handles prior authorizations for the insurance companies and so when it pops up as needed the pharmacy cannot fulfill the Rx. She has had one to do for me for a month, I'm now out of medicine. She told me she had no record of anyone requesting it, I have the records showing when it was requested.

I had what could have been an ugly situation at Verizon when I bought my iPad, but the gal that I was working with was a delight. She was so helpful and so good at her job that there was no way I would have walked out and stiffed her on the sale. A letter of commendation is on it's way to her boss.

I do both and make sure those compliments go out.....I had a problem with our local KMart and got good results...They had 4 boxes of cereal for $10.00 and when the receipt printed out, it would have a coupon for a free gallon of milk...I picked up the cereal, the ones on the shelf with the special prices but when it scanned, it came up regular price...They called a gal who in turn said, "that's the wrong size", didn't say, I'll replace it, sorry....So, I didn't buy but came home and wrote the main office....I did get a call from the manager at KMart, saying the girl was wrong, should have done more, she put the 4 boxes aside, plus the milk and was issuing a $10.00 gift card...when I went into the store, I was able to talk with her and they couldn't have been nicer and I did get my "bargain"...As soon as I got home, I whipped off a very nice compliment to the main office.....
I do believe in letting them know if something is wrong but also when somethng is good.....

Yes! Often times I get a response back thanking me for taking the time to do so.

I think it's important for management to know how their employees are doing, good and bad. I am a retired restaurant owner and I valued the feedback from my customers. I always tried to be aware of what my employees were doing, but I also can't be with them entire time either.

I'm glad you complained to your doctor's office, what she is doing can be not only serious, but deadly. My mom was out of meds due to a similar situation and she ended up in the emergency because of blood pressure problems.

Trailrunner, I hear what you are saying about the value of work, & how it contributes to lives, to society, to who we are. We are interdependent & couldn't get through a single day without the contributions of 100's of people! Isn't that a humbling thought? The efforts of so many are simply vital! One week without trash pick-up illustrates that reality beautifully! We really are all connected. We also live in a world where WORK is given so very much attention & adulation for all the wrong reasons! What people do to earn money (& of course how much they earn!) often defines them to an extent that I personally find bizarre. I know you know what I'm talking about! That is why I care less about how people earn a living than with other features of their humanity. What interests me the most about the people who have impressed me over the years, is a certain "quality of attention" they give to a task, no matter how grand or humble it may be. That presence, that "flow" as it has been called, is being fully human, & is strikingly beautiful. The way someone who is mindful & present sets a table, prepares a meal, interacts with a child, speaks to strangers, can mesmerize me. We can witness life in it's fullest, most whole, complete & beautiful, by seeing even the simplest thing done with great care. But, moments like that can easily be overlooked & or seen as meaningless in this world so obsessed with career paths & success strategies. Still, indeed, I well agree that a person can perform the work they do for a living with the care, attention & presence I am referring to, & when that happens, we are all made better! (Actually, you, your dh, your son & his wife (at the restaurant) impress me as fine examples of people who live like this!) You nursed the sick, you sang opera, you ran the trails. You have seen others nurse, sing & run as well. I would imagine that you did all of these things attentively, lovingly, mindfully, but certainly you have witnessed these tasks performed robotically or in a "check list" sort of fashion. For me, it is not the "what" but the "how" that leads to completion, wholeness, fufillment, whether we are "working" or not. Whatever we are doing, matters little in the end, but what could be sweeter than to feel content with "how" we've done things, no matter what they were, no matter how small or insignificant? To live with true quality of attention, to do our best, no matter if anyone is looking or a paycheck is in the mail. With this approach to life, when one "retires" the habit of living mindfully & being present has enriched the heart & mind so fully that a "deficit" or void of any kind is not perceived. Life in all of its fullness continues to surprise, delight & offer rich rewards, even without the job, title, paycheck & all the status & approval from others that those things confer.

Well, after spending an hour last night composing an entertaining (to me anyways) and probably overly-dramatic letter, the credit finally posted to my credit card. And, whether by accident or purpose, they ended up just charging me $10 more per panel than the original sale price, and didn't re-charge me shipping again. Which, since this is what I was so annoyed about, I guess I don't have anything else to complain about. (except for the wasted time and effort). I do appreciate all this support though :) and if anything, I did feel like I was back in English 101, trying to compose a persuasive argument-type essay (even quoted the new president from the forward of their new catalog).

Of course, expenditures made with a debit card, or ATM withdrawals should/would also be written in a check register, to keep an accurate running balance. But, I don't write those down, either. (I don't make purchases with my ATM/debit card other than at the grocery store.) If I purchase something "in person" or purchase something online, I use a credit card. I pay my monthly bills (credit cards, cell phone, car payment, etc.) via my bank's online Bill Pay system. That system will also generate and send a physical check (and they cover the postage!). When the money electronically leaves my account and goes to the payee, the deduction shows up in my online account. I don't receive a physical/paper statement each month -- I can view my statement online. I do download the PDFs of the statements to my computer, where they are organized by bank, then account (checking/savings/credit card) then by year, then by month. Paperwork for major purchases, etc., goes into a file folder for that purchase, and stored in the file drawer with other similar folders. When I do write a physical check, the bank does not return the canceled check to me. They quit doing that many years ago, even when I was still receiving a monthly paper statement. I can go into my account online and view both sides of the check, and download a copy of the images, which I do. My PC is backed up to a 2TB portable drive. Every time I make a change to an existing file, or add a new file, it is backed up. And, no, I don't worry about my running balance. I know how much money is direct-deposited to my account each month, and I know how much I have left each month after I pay my bills. Since I use my credit cards more than my debit card, I don't need to know my balance. (I'm 67 years old and haven't overdrawn my checking account since I was 19.)

Thanks for those articles from me, too. The CDC still says to use bleach to disinfect, which is different than sanitize. They say that to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces you need 1/3 cup of regular chlorine bleach per gallons of water, although Clorox recommends using 1/2 cup bleach per 1/2 gallon. For small batches, use 4 teaspoons of regular chlorine bleach and 1 quart of water. Dip a cloth into the mixture, wipe the surface, ALLOWING THE SOLUTION TO CONTACT THE SURFACE FOR 5 MINUTES AND AIR DRY. For food contact surfaces, like countertops and high chair trays, rinse with warm water and air dry after disinfecting. Use it sparingly on stainless steel sinks and surfaces. I use bleach regularly, I have all those white bar mops that I wash and bleach, I use them for everything. I also bleach the white socks and cotton gloves I use/wear on the farm, as well as wash cloths and some white towels. A person should NEVER have white towels on a farm, BTW. Anyway, I use enough that it's never outdated, and I leave it in the original opaque container. The biggest mistake people make, though, is to wipe their counters with the solution but not leave it the required 5 minutes before wiping the residue to dry their surfaces. I too write letters. Capitol One got one because of the "violence" by the Vikings, but I tried to be positive, and it worked
So did Subway. I did not like the sandwich yanked out of a person's hand--they changed.
Right now I am thoroughly disgusted with a beauty salon--franchised one in most malls--women at our local look like slobs, hair ever which way, tattoos, wearing crappy shoes, and as soon as they finish they run in back until someone else come. NO manager, and complete lack of respect to their clients unless you do what they want you to do. There has been many complaints, but the main office could care less.

I try to and I am doing one today. I purchased one of the excellent otterbox cases for my husbands cell phone when we got our new smart phones in June. That case is about the best you can get and it came with a holster that clips onto the belt so he can wear it on his hip. They are not cheap it cost over $50. Last night his holster just fell off his belt, the plastic pin that holds the clipper thing onto the holster had sheared off and there was no way to fix it. He was really upset because he hates to carry things in his pocket and this is a big phone.
I called their customer service number today, after a very short wait I spoke to a very nice young lady, told her what had happened and she said oh no well lets get him a new one out right away! I did not have to prove anything just give her my address and she immediately put an order out for a replacement.

That kind of customer service will get much praise from me and I will most definitely recommend them highly. I would recommend the otterbox cases anyway they are such great products.
I like to let them know when I have great service as well as when it is poor. In fact I think I do more for great service in compliments than I do complaints.

So if anyone is looking for a protective case for their phone consider otterbox! LOL

Yes, I have complained and commended. My most recent complaint involved a local Medical Supplies outfit that I contacted for service on my handicapped scooter. From my initial call it took 7 weeks and 9 more calls to get their attention. In the end, they did finally get the part I needed and my DH picked it up and did the repair himself, which is a nono according to the manufacturer of the scooter. (Liabilities you know) My method of complaining was to try to speak on the phone with the supervisor of their service department. Three times I was promised a call back, which didn't happen. So I applied for a job as service manager by filling out their online application. I stated that I was proficient in rudeness, misleading, lying and very capable of loosing orders or just messing them up if need be so I felt that I would fit in very well with their team. Would you believe that I didn't get the job! Can't imagine why.

LOL Gazania!! Good for you!!!!

The center washer broke on one of my food processor blades. I called customer service, thinking I would buy a new blade.

She immediately offered to send me a new blade, no receipt required. 2 days later I had my new blade. She had sent me a confirmation receipt.

I immediately wrote to her praising her and the company.

I bought a new iron recently,it's a sunbeam and a very good iron `~~BUT~~~and you knew there'd be a but,it was very hard to tell when the water tank was full ,so i always ended up over filling it and making a mess on my ironing board.

The problem with this iron is that the water tank is a darker shade of blue and you really can't see the fill lines.So i emailed them,gave them all that info and they were very nice about it and told me they would send me a cup for it,that holds the right amount of water.I received it in 3 or4 days.

My question is and was why didn't they include that in the box originally.Of course the person didn't know,nor did i expect her to,just wanted to point that out.We were both nice to each other.

I'm very good at stuff like this,i'll call and compliment you,but i'll also call and complain if the need arises.We have to do that,otherwise,how will the companies know.

I do complain usually using the 800 number on the product. Last week it was canned cat food which three of the four of my cats sniffed and walked away. Something was up . They sent me coupons for 6 free cans. I do compliment as well,. I called a local restaurant and told them one of their servers(by name) was excellent and we like her so much , we ask for her.

I don't usually complain but I've sent in compliments when I've gotten exemplary service. I sent a card to a nurse recently who worked on a geriatric psychiatric ward that I had to deal with for one of my clients. The hospital was trying to release her under really bad circumstances and there was nothing I could do about it and he happened to have come on shift (which wasn't even his regular shift) as they were planning to send her home and stepped in and saved the day. He was amazing so I sent him a card telling him that and thanking him for his help.
