I do it whenever I've had good service and an opportunity to thank the company. I think it's a wonderful thing to do for employees.

I did it in CVS recently. An employee was very helpful, running around the store to find what I wanted. I stopped and told the manager.

I do all the time. We got great service after emailing a company about a BarBQ. They sent new parts no questions asked in just a few days. I sent them another email and told them how much I appreciated the good service.

I have to admit I haven't emailed a compliment and only one complaint. I do, however usually try to give a compliment to a manager for outstanding performance. I know it was always a day brightener for me (and my employees when I'd tell them about it) whenever I'd receive a compliment from a happy customer.

Recently went to Red Robin for the first time, for lunch with a friend. Excellent food, outstanding service. The manager on duty was so pleased to hear it, and it always makes me feel good to give a sincere compliment. I also made a point of telling the waitress that she was fantastic. And it was her 2nd or 3rd day out of training. I expect good service anywhere I go but these days it's a rare treat to receive outstanding service and outstanding food at the same time.

I do need to get better at complaining when things are bad. Not to complain all the time, but nobody should put up with bad product or bad service.

Only occasionally, I think that I should confess.

I have on occasion complained to companies where I was less than happy with the service, etc.

It seems only fair that, when I am impressed with receiving above average service, I should acknowledge it, as well.

Otherwise I become a greater complainer than an affirmer.

And I claim to be a positive-affirming guy!

Seems to me that I just got caught out, to an extent!

Looks like I'd better mend my ways!

I don't usually email complaints or compliments. No reason, I just don't do it. I meant to compliment the florist on the floral arrangement they created for a recent funeral, but I'm ashamed to admit that I forgot to do it.

Yes! Always! Not necessarily by email...but in person or via a hand written note.

i always do! even if i have to write myself a note to remember to do so. people who go out of their way w/ good/great service or help deserve to have their mgnt uppers know about it. part of my own job is providing great customer service (i work in landscape plant sales & dispatch) and i am very well paid because customers often let my co-workers and bosses know how much they appreciate my service.

my dh & i have been on the hunt for a nintendo wii and wii fit and an employee at target went beyond his duty to check other stores for us one night. he even told us they would be in the next sunday ad (last weekend) and to be there at 6:30am for the console, we were and got 1 of the coveted consoles :-) you better believe i let the store manager know about his help as well as an email to corp. ~ liz

I never thought to email a company. I once wrote a complimentary letter to McDonalds after observing an employee helping an elderly woman with her order. About a week later, I got a letter back thanking me for the letter, saying the employee had been identified and rewarded and I got three coupons for free food. I used to be a public servant, and , believe me, a written letter of criticism or compliment has a very big impact! And to think of it, when I was a kid, I bought a Hostess Twinkie with no filling. I wrote to Hostess to complain, and they sent my family a case of Twinkies!

yes I do...being in an industry where complaints and compliments are they only way were are rated...it means lots...it's really quick nowdays to jot off an email and companies, while they may take awhile to respond, do appreciate feedback!

I have done both, but with a complaint its easier to remember to do it. I am going t make a mental note to report compliments more often. Liz-did you find a Wii fit?? I would really like one, I've been checking Amazon daily because I have a $60 GC, but they are never in stock.

I usually will seek out a manager on the spot and compliment the employee or service, but the last two times it seemed like the manager just wasn't impressed. Thanked me for my comment but *I* was the one that felt uncomfortable, and I almost wonder if the employee was ever really commended or rewarded.

From now on I'll have to start writing letters or emailing, at least that's something that can be put into the employee's file.

Yes! I just emailed a company last week about the best granola I have ever tasted. I didn't hear back yet.
I also called the local florist, I had to compliment on her employee in the greenhouse she had. The gal was VERY helpful and suggested all kinds of things when I was clueless as to what I wanted! Now this year the flowershop has a new owner and that helpful employee isn't there!
