I 'm Having a Puppy Problem..

I got a cute little jack Russell puppy Patch)about a month or two ago.Well the older russell does not like puppy.All they do is fight over toys,bones.I buy both dogs a bone the older one takes both,she guards them with her life.If puppy lays down beside the older (Mickey)she gets up to get away from puppy.If puppy has bone chewing on it the older one goes up rips it out of her mouth.This cant go on any ideas to change this.????Mickey never minded our two labs we had ,she use to sit on yellow ones back...

She's jealous. I wouldn't do too much about it, since I believe it is best to let animals work out things for themselves, as long as it doesn't come to fighting. If you get on Mickey too much, she will associate that with the puppy and that won't make matters any better. Also, I wouldn't show the puppy a whole lot of attention right in front of Mickey. But, if Mickey is bad, I would use a firm
NO...to let her know she's in the wrong.

I don't have cable...so I don't watch The Dog Whisperer...so maybe someone else has better ideas.

I've never had animals that at least didn't come to some kind of understanding between themselves. Well, I do have a couple of horses that hate each other...both mares...and the one that is low gal on the totem pole had to learn to live with it.

Probably it's an issue with the bones, maybe you can give them to them in separate spots, or do they have crates they can go in to chew their bones? One year someone gave the girls bones for christmas, and they had an awful fight right there in front of everybody. She said, "next year I'll give them hair ribbons" laughed my butt off! Hope your dogs settle down, it'll take a while.

Can you post a pic about the whole plant and explain what kind of soil you used for repotting? How did the roots look? Was the plant rootbound? It is a shock when you bring the tree inside, not to speak of the repot. Losing a few leaves is completely normal.

It looks like rot from too much water, or that mulch is covering the stems too much and rotting them (or a combination of the two). If you had a frost early on this could have started a fungus problem. The other possibility could be fusarium root rot. If that is the case you would want to throw these away and start over, but I would let them dry out completely, if possible, remove the really bad leaves, then spray with a broad spectrum fungicide like Daconil, and see if new leaves emerge. Did you just plant them this year? If so, the stems might be too deep and you would want to pull the mulch and a bit of soil away from the stems, but if you planted them last year the depth wouldn't be an issue any longer. Good luck! Probably a different problem with each different kind of plant. The clematis will be likely to need more serious watering of the root area, many foliage mildews are a summer phenomenon prevalent in this area because the common combination of dry roots and damp leaves is perfect for them - drought stress may predispose genetically susceptible kinds of plants to infestation, with damp leaves providing a good surface for germination of mildew spores. Dry weather may also be more suitable for dispersal of spores than rainy (some mildews emit spores that have their own little moisture packets, so they can infect dry leaf surfaces). And frequently washed leaves are less suitable for colonization than merely damp ones.

I think it will work out too. Marilyn is right. DS moved home with his Chihuahua Mac, we had the doxie Miss who was the baby and knew it! LOL They had a few spats, but sorted it out themselves. I didn't buy them bones (but they did get toys) for awhile cause I knew they were both possessive as heck.

I have the same problem with my dog and the new cat. The cat will find a milkbone and start chewing on it and the dog is right there snatching it away from him! We have to be careful giving the cat any attention cause the dog gets jealous. LOL Most of the time they get along really well though.

Hope your pups start getting along better.
