Sorry...I'd rather just use the remote to turn down the volume.

I had a TV set once which "sensed" ads and automatically driopped the volume. Not sure of the make/model. Nowadays my DH controls the remote. As soon as a commercial comes on, he changes the station.

I heard that too this morning.

We have much more pressing problems that need done. The volumn of our TV shouldn't even be on the list. Even a minute on this is valuable time wasted.

I just use the mute button when commercials come on. However, I do agree with susie53.

Wow - amazing that our elected officials waste time on stuff like that. They should all be fired. Well, a good number of them were just fired weren't they.

One of my tvs has the option to even out the sounds, but I will be very glad to see this law take effect.

According to one report I heard earlier today, the loud commercials is the highest number of complaints the FCC gets from the public.

I believe most people think the commercials are too loud, and annoying.

Common sense says there is no reason for them to be so loud. Of course we know it is to get our attention, but often it makes us hit the mute button in stead of watching the ad. I would think companies would understand that, but they don't.

Yep - there are more critical issues for Congress to consider. But this one makes me happy. It's seldom that I just sit and watch TV without working on something - needlework, crossword puzzle, catching up on newspapers etc. Reaching for the remote is inconvenient. However when my Dad lived with us he was unable to press the mute button due to his arthritic fingers and would accidentally turn off the TV.

Congresswoman Eshoo who sponsored the bill said that complaints about ad volume were second only to the "Do Not Call" complaints.

It shouldn't require a law, common courtesy ought to be enough for these companies. I've about jumped out of my skin a few times when a commercial came on really loud, with some startling music or screeching or something.

I agree there are more pressing matters, but it should only take a president a couple of minutes to sign a bill unless it turns into a photo op. Congress wastes a lot of time as it is, but at least this bill will affect ALL of us, not just a certain special interest group.

And ever since I can remember, WAY before there were remote controls, my dad made a kill switch that was attached to a chunk of 2 x 4 and ran with a wire to the TV that would kill the sound, so we would all sit around and yell "hit it, hit it!" to whomever had the switch as soon as a commercial came on. Tacky looking, yes, but we stopped listening to commercials a long time ago. Kind of a redneck remote control, before its time. lol I think he made one for every TV in the house.

Now I sometimes turn the volume back ON to hear a particularly interesting looking commercial. :)
