I just read about the loss of your mother on the are you alone today thread. I am so sorry.

What a terrible way to spend Thanksgiving Day. I hope you have friends and family around for support.

I am thinking of you at this difficult time.

I just read this. I am so sorry. Thanksgiving was 1 week after my mom passed. I too hope you have friends and family around for support. My family was with me, and I was lucky enough to be rubbing her hair and talking to her when she passed.

Take care of yourself and remember the good times with your mom. (((((Jean))))

Thank you both so very much. My mom is finally whole again! She is in the arms of her Father and her parents and her sisters.

Here is something I wrote on Wednesday after I came home from being with her in the hospital:

My mom is dying.
When is the only question. I hope she goes quickly, if you can call the last 5 years or so quickly.
She is totally unresponsive. They say she may be able to hear us, but there's no way of knowing.
There is no drastic measures to be taken, no resussitation. She is on oxygen and that's about it.
She's had a heart attack, she most certainly has pneumonia, she has highly elevated white blood cells, and fluid around her heart. Her heart rate would fluctuate anywhere between 109 and 153. It's working extremely hard and is extremely large. She has congestive heart failure had has for a while now.
There are no miracles to be prayed for. Only peace.
My sister just called...my mom's kidneys and liver are shutting down. They will give her morphine to help her breath easier.
I suggested that when she takes her last breath, that we should all shout "Halleluia!" and celebrate for her, she will finally be home, in the loving arms of her mother, father and two of her sisters and her heavenly father she had such faith in.
It's horrible the selfish thoughts that splash through your brain at the moment you realize you're mom is dying. I say splash, because they are scattored thoughts, droplets here and there, nothing formed completely and nothing concrete, but splashing and sloshing all over. Half formed and quickly thought, to be wiped away with a backhanded swipe like a windshield wiper on a rainy day. Part of me wants to stop and examine those thoughts to try and figure out where they originate and why I would even think them. Another part wants to deny them completely. Another part forgives me for thinking them.
I'm not crying anymore.
Not for my mom.
I wish her a speedy journey.
I wish her peace.
I wish her painless days and nights.
I wish her freedom from the prison that was her unusable body for so many years.
I wish her joy and happiness that I know await her, because she believed it.
Most of all, I wish her grace.

Patricia, My Mother died the same exact way as yours. She had been suffering with a stiff neck for a couple of weeks. On Monday (June 4, 2007) she went to the hospital to get it checked. On Wednesday (6th) we found out she had liver cancer. It had spread to her adrenial glands, lungs and into her neck. On Sunday (10th) she was gone. She too went peacefully in her sleep. I know what you went through, she went really fast. Although this is all still new to me, I too feel your pain. Grieving is not easy for me right now. I smelt saukraut (sp?) the other day and thought it was kind of funny as I was driving down the road. I close my eyes and see her smiling face but yet I can not cry. Her services are this coming week end (17th/18th) and she is being buried on my son's (her grandson's) birthday. He is taking it so hard, but there is nothing I can do. I have talked till I was blue in the face and can not gt my brother to budge. I just hope I have the strength to go through this. With God's help we wil get through this. I am glad I found this site, to see that others feel the same as I do. I lost my mother last week, she passed away Feb 27, 2013 at the age of 65. My mother was my soul mate, she was my best friend and recently she felt like a daughter. I miss the sparkle in her eyes. She had been ill for about 8 years, on and off, and each time she seemed to get better. She always had such a great attitude and sense of humor. I thought she would get better this time too. I was her caretaker, along with my father for the last 2 years. Before that I worked with her and saw her every day. I have seen her or talked to her every day of my life. I am only 30 years old and I always thought I would have her around for another 20. I still feel like a child, and without her I feel lost. I don't have children yet, and I know that when I do it will be bitter-sweet because she is not here. The pain I feel is very intense and I am exhausted, I have only begun grieving and I wonder when it will end (but I see now that it never will). I am not sure what to make of all these strange feelings. A week before she passed away, angels came to me and told me that she would feel better by the end of the following week. Even though my interpretation was wrong, they were right, she does feel better. Since her passing she has been talking to me and that is a huge comfort, she tells me she is happy and that she will always be by my side. She tells me she is excited to meet her grandchildren. She has been telling me not to wait to live my life anymore, to have fun. She also said to think of her transition as a long vacation, we will see each other again when my flight lands. My story is so similar to all the others I have read, so I am sure your mothers are by your sides helping and guiding you through your lives. Talk to your mothers because they hear you and the love they feel for you is pure.

I lost my Mom 4 years ago. I still cry a few times every month. Several years ago I asked her if she still thought about her Mother, My Grandma..she said "oh honey, I think about her everyday". I remember thinking how extraordinary that was. Now I get it. I have to share this poignant moment I had. I had returned home from my Mom's funeral in another state. My hubby and I took care of his mother, who was wheelchair bound. She had her sister and cousin over. I was sharing what it was like to lose my Mother. Aunt Wanda, who was 80 started crying. I felt so bad that I made this old woman cry. Then she said "I was crying, because I was remembering MY MOTHER crying at Christmas time, because she missed HER MOTHER". I said "Let me get this straight, you are crying over your mother who was crying over her mother"? LOL. Ya know how you laugh and cry at the same time? I never had a moment in life like that..We women stared at each other. The bond women share, mothers..love..life..it is so special. I now know how very important I am to MY DAUGHTER and only child. The memories I make with her will comfort her when I am gone. Still, I cry. She is expecting her first and most likely only child a boy. I am so sad my Mom didn't get to see him. But life goes on..and as bad as I miss Mom, a new grandchild is coming and a new chapter in my life. Do you honestly think your brother gets how you feel? NO..most guys don't. So honey, you just grieve for your Mom as long as you need to. It is a testimony to the love you had for her. It will subside..but the deep longing for her will not go away. At least mine hasn't. Thanks for the supportive words and suggestions. I've been giving him time and letting him have time to himself in the evenings. He had a very loving relationship with his mother and father but now both of his parents are deceased - it is a shock. He kinda hides out in our bedroom reading newspapers, trade magazines, and watching sports and news after the kids go to bed. He eats breakfast by himself with the newspaper and news on TV. As soon as the kids and I come down for breakfast, he goes upstairs to get dressed by himself. He's managed to schedule a lot of his time to be by himself. On the weekend, he sleeps a lot. Other times he gets charged up by rough housing with the kids. Last weekend, one of my daughters needed help finding something my DH put away. I asked her why Daddy couldn't help her find it if he put it away, and she said, "Is it because Daddy lays around and sleeps a lot?" They say the darndest things. Don't worry, I've never stressed out over housework. I'm more concerned about DHs angry outbursts and extreme withdrawal. Yes, I'm picking up the slack of trying to take care of all the busy needs the kids have in the morning, evening, and weekends but that's not as concerning as the other issues. Our house has already been "let go" as far as cleaning. I'm just trying to do the basics to keep us clean, clothed, fed, and delivered to work and school! I'm sure this will all take time. Holidays will be here soon and that will be tough. Thanks again, I'll just watch and wait it out. Karen

jeaninwa, what you wrote was just beautiful! I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face. What a great and unselfish way of looking at your mom's passing. My mom passed over three years this coming January and I still break down almost every day. We were so close and so much alike. I don't want to hijack your thread with my story, so I will just close saying thanks for posting that heartfelt letter to your mom.

My heart is breaking for you. It's been just over a month since my sisters, my dad and I stood at MY mom's bedside and watched her die in a situation that is eerily similar to what you describe with YOUR mom.

Knowing that our loved ones are celebrating with those who've gone before doesn't make us miss them any less, does it? I'm so sorry for your loss...

I will keep you in my prayers.

Having just lost my mother, I can totally feel for her. Thanksgiving is hard for me anyway, with no family around. I purposely went on a fast this year right before so I didn't have to participate. T'day without my mom would be unbearable.
