Let's talk about shower mats.

What do u have in your shower or keep from slipping? Our mat gets yucky so quickly, I'm always scrubbing it. Suggestions?

Interested too. I don't want those sticky decals for the bottom of the tub and don't want to scrub those mats after every bath or shower. Bathtub is very slippery. Our 40 year old nephew fell in it this summer.

Tony doesn't have anything in his shower & I have a big Jacuzzi tub that has built in "bumps" to keep me from slipping when I am getting in & out of the tub.

My Mom used one of those rubber mats with all the little sucker feet on it to keep it from slipping. She took hers out & rinsed it off after every shower & laid it across the side of the tub with the sucker feet pointing up. She got hers at the Dollar Tree and when it started to get yucky she would get another one & throw the yucky one away. She did it about once a month. When she passed we found her "stash" she had about 6 or 7 of those rubber mats under her sink.

cynthianovak, thank you for the reply! I'm glad it's not just me who's given into temptation and tried these. I was trying to grow wildflowers that would attract butterflies--that's it, nothing fancy. I wanted to direct sow because--well, because wildflowers should be able to handle direct sowing! And I wanted to use a seed mixture to save money and get a large variety of flowers. I've sown wildflower seeds in this spot at least five times (various brands/e-tailers) over the last couple years, and all I get are weeds. I was so frustrated--I grow a lot of very interesting plants, and I can't grow wildflowers! But then I found the birds pecking away at that garden bed a day after I put out a round of seeds, and I realized they were eating all my seeds and that's why I can't get anything to grow there! I direct sow other seeds in various spots, and I always expect some seeds to be eaten by critters, but I think this empty bed with so many kinds of seeds was just a buffet the birds could not resist. I was really hoping this seed mat would help protect the seeds from birds long enough for them to grow into plants--I thought maybe they wouldn't pick at the seeds so much in this format. And now I can't tell if I just bought a shoddy brand, am doing something wrong, or if the birds are still getting the seeds. I can tell you that the birds in my yard are little gluttons, and very well fed with the feeder I'm constantly refilling. I probably need to just admit defeat with direct sowing in this bed, and start a bunch of cuttings to populate it without spending a fortune. It's a little embarassing, though, that the last bouquet my husband bought for me contained carnations, roses, lilies--I teased him for buying me flowers that I grow in the yard--but I cannot get the wildflowers to sprout. Embarassing! LOL

My post got long .. here's what I wanted to say. I believe that 30 , 3 minute videos, watched one after another . which means they would have to be downloaded together.. not picked and watched from youtube.. is the best way i've learned to understand new topics i want to learn about. With this in mind if someone can help , not by using a one at a time converter. but by a bulk , 30 video downloader for Youtube or google video, I will be glad to explain why it's the best way to learn. and I'm willing to make a nice donation, of $30 or more to a charity of the choice of the person helping with the method to bulk save about 30 or 40 videos at a time. I said i would explain why in detail if you want I'm glad to do it. And i'm willing to donate because it's a good time where people need donations and I have the money to donate. and it's something i'm asking for. Thanks for listening and reading. I spent hours trying to write something useful but it got confusing and so finally you got the gist of what I meant to say. : ) All with good intentions for me, the group, and people who could benefit by the assistance of a technical helper. I posted here because people in this thread were the type who were the type I think would benefit by the type of learning I've had success with using youtube and many downloads. But what I offer is too much to suggest . . to people with not much time. That's why I needed a helper to create the downloader routine. Yes there are some already but the ones I've used are 1 at a time and that's too slow and tedious in my experience. Mich, I've seen that in the stores and wondered about it. Some detergents don't have enzymes, I stear clear most of the time, however not every load is tragic, so not every load needs enzymes. If there's not a bunch of stains and the clothes just have the normal dust and body oils, that bottle of All probably does a nice job on darks and colors. I'm a powder fan but lately I've been enjoying some liquids, lol. Actually I have found liquids without enzymes make my sheets feel very smooth, I've been using a new boutique one I've run across, I'm not sure yet though if its the lack of enzymes or because its a liquid, but they do feel better I'll send a pic of it in a sec.

I only watched the first episode of Blood and Oil and could see how the whole thing was laid out for the season. It's way too breathless, in the current way of ABC shows, without the kind of dynamic lead that the Shonda shows have. The first episode of Blindspot is a total mess and I nearly dumped it, but there was nothing else interesting on when the second one aired and it was better. Turns out to be more intriguing than it should be. There's a woowoo element to it -- the tattoos seem too predictive to be merely roadmaps from old information, but even though there's really not much there, I find I enjoy it and like the characters. I liked the Limitless film, so have been watching the series. It keeps thinking like a film, however, and is going to exhaust itself or eat its young. For the moment, I like it kind of middling. It's sort of like a comic book style Castle with the naive rogue outsider leaping in. I wouldn't miss it if it were gone. I really like Quantico. It has the most depth of any of these shows. It has a lot of depth for a show that has depth. The characters are very well drawn and distinguishable one from the next, which is rare on TV ensembles. The parallel story telling between the academy and the future can be annoying, especially if one doesn't have eyes glued to the screen, but, unlike in some shows, there is enough difference between the characters and their past selves, and their relationships and the past relationships, that it's really very interesting. There's also some of that ABC breathless quality, but since there's actual peril, not made up soap opera peril, and since it's driven by a forward moving plot, it doesn't bother me. It's my favorite new show. I like Heroes Reborn, but it's not exactly new. :) And I liked Heroes. I think it's supposed to be a limited run, which is good, since the plot is save the world. For self-contained, episodic procedural, I like Rosewood. It could be an 80's show, but I like that the rogue outsider is a qualified professional rather than just some dude, and it doesn't matter what the body of the week is--I could just watch Morris Chestnut and listen to his voice and be sufficiently entertained. :) The supporting players are also good, though, so it's not a one man show, and it's a thrill every time the great Lorraine Toussaint has a scene (as his mother).

I am not using one now but the last one I had we really liked, I got it from Anna's linens, it looked almost like rubbery grass. It had little leaves of plastic that stood up so it felt really good on your feet. It had drain holes in it too. It didn't get icky too bad, but I too take it up, spray with the shower spray and drape it. The one I had was clear.

I'm using one I found on Amazon (Prime) while looking for something else. InterDesign Blumz. It's made of clear vinyl in a pattern of cut out flowers. There's also Pebblz (get it?) . I really like it a lot and will order two the next time. I think I paid a little over ten bucks.

I also lift it out after my shower, rinse it, shake it out, and let it dry. I scrub it in the sink every month or so, but it doesn't usually need it.

Guess having an old bathtub that isn't slick at all has it's advantages...

My old shower mat to keep people from slipping that I had bought for when my mother in law visited is under my sink now. Was quick and easy to fix the messy look under there, when I moved in.

I wash mine with the towerls once a week and it has help up well with no problems with it getting nasty - of course, there's only two of us mostly using the shower...

I use mine with the sucker feet daily. I just lift it out of the tub, shake off the excess water, then hang over the shower chair to dry.I've had it probably ten months and it's not dirty or soapy or slippery. Drying between uses seems to work. You can also wash a plastic bath mat in the dishwasher. I do that maybe twice a year.

I dont have one in my tub, but, in my shower, I have a clear one, and I take it up and put it in a bleach wash in the washing machine about once a month. It still comes out looking good. I think this one came from Walmart and wasnt expensive, so could easily be replaced. Its been in the shower since we moved here over 4 yrs ago, so its held up very well.

I have a real nice thick one that feels very good on your feet.It has those rubbery feet/suckers on it,but is well made and works well.Dh got it at walmart,think it was the most expensive one they had,but well worth it.Like the op I just throw it in the machine with the towels.

While I was recovering from a broken foot, I was a little unsteady on my feet and didn't want to slip and fall so I started wearing really lightweight canvas shoes with grippy soles in the shower. I'm steadier now but my foot still aches when I'm barefoot so I still wear them. I can throw them in the dryer, or just leave them by the heat vent to dry. Seems to work!

Mine goes in the washer too...Its from Walmart and I've had it for 8 years or so and it comes out so clean....Mainstays is the brand...I have had two in eight years...took the first one I bought, and put it in the rv and bought a new one for the house...they wash and are like new...

I'd never thought of washing it in the washer! I'm going to do that today! I have to wash dog blankets so that will be the perfect time to throw that in! I'll report the outcome later....

none! when we redid "my" bathroom, went for a walk in shower with non skid floor...when it does get a small stain that scrubbing bubbles doesn't cut, I use barkeepers friend...thank goodness it's still going strong (8 years)

notice in dd2's new rental she has one of the older floors..at one point they said to use car wax to protect it!

I did wash my mat, almost forgot to check back in, it washed up just fine although it is a white one and I just cannot get it white anymore.

Does anyone have a product that will clean the staining off of a white mat?

I wonder if the bleach would deteriorate the plastic(rubber) though.

When I bought my house 15 years ago, it had those flower decals in the bottom of the tub. My first inclination was to pull them up. But I only got one little piece up and gave up. I have come to be happy about having them. No slipping and I've been scrubbing them with Comet for years and they still keep me from slipping!!
