I found this interesting.

What about when someone DOESN'T introduce the person you're with?

This sometimes happens at work. One of my bosses will bring someone around on a tour into my classroom, and tell the person they are with MY name, but not tell me who this person is, or why they are there. It could be a parent, a potential employee or the head of the corporation....I don't know. I'll sometimes ask, and be given the name but not any other info, and I don't want to be so forward as to ask further questions. This just happened tonight. When they left, my coteacher asked me who it was.....I had no idea.

Awkward when your boss or one of your bosses. In a more social setting, if someone fails to complete an introduction, I can say (possibly taking a step closer) Hi, then repeat my name (even if it's just been said), maybe reach for a hand and if a quizzical look doesn't bring a quick response, add, 'and you are?'....In other words, finish the introduction by introducing yourself.

But - its so clear the person bringing you together has failed to satisfy an introduction, might be tough if its your boss.

Oh gosh, I had to reach my husband how to introduce me to people.....he was impossible, at first!

There I was, brand new to the city....to the state...hadn't met a soul. He would put his arm around me and say, " This is my wife." Lolol. Now he says, "Rhizo, this is Todd, the architect I've been working with on the xxx project. Todd, this is my wife 'rhizo'."

He simply had never been taught how to execute this very important social task and it was awkward for him.

Jean, if I were you and had such a socially inept or insecure supervisor, I'd do as Mor suggests. I would reintroduce myself and offer a handshake. The other person will offer his or her name as a reflex.

My Okie father, who was born in 1910, composted his whole life, as had both his dustbowl farmer parents before him, so I figure that my family has been composting continually for well over a century. (When someone was in college or in WWII, some other family member was running a pile somewhere.) In almost 56 years, I have only lived in one home that didn't have a compost pile---during a nine month stint I spent in Boston once. In the summer when we went to our camp, we put our compostables into a bottom-less trash can that my father sank into the ground. That was in operation for fifty years until an overenthusiastic snowplow guy plowed well into our back yard and drove it out of the ground. The lid was unscathed and I still have it. For some reason, my father or someone stamped a neat "1945" into it. The bin in our backyard at home was a three-sided, wooden box about 5 feet x 10. We dropped our household debris into the bin from the garden crib above it. When my father (the gardener) died, my brother, mother and I continued to add to what my family called the "mulch pile", but we never harvested from it. It was just the way we managed waste. For years and years. I moved out and began to compost at my new apartment. When my mother moved in the 80s I moved the contents of the bin along with her other household items. I planted a garden with some of my father's plants---Blue Flag and Solomon's Seal and bluebells---and used all of the compost in the new garden. Someone gave me a huge wooden box from Lockheed and I set it up at the new place for my mother's new bin. My stepfather later built another bin 5' x 8. Over time we added three mobile, wire bins. I have five bins going now here at our former cottage, plus an area about 7'x 20' that is under three feet of packed leaves and grass clippings, an area that will be planted someday. I covered an area about 15'x20 last year under about 50 bags of leaves, about, I can't really remember, I think over 50 pumpkins, six contractor's bag of seaweed, four bales of rotten hay, and a few bags of pine needles. It's shocking how much that shrank by summer's end. It's good looking stuff, though, so I thought that I should head to another area. I'm going to heavily mulch that area with chicken house litter this spring and plant something there.

Thanks for the comps guys. Maecat - The house has a typical rear entry garage. You enter the back of the house from the garage or the back patio. We use our garage for darts and ping pong. We can fold up the ping pong table and still get both cars in the garage...so that works great. Susan - We bought the stone from Whiz-Q stone in south Fort Worth. There website is www.whizq.com. Great group of people. I live in Carrollton and wanted to buy from places I found in Lewisville and Frisco and they were not friendly to the non-commercial buyer. Whiz-Q was just the opposite. I called ahead and asked if I could get some samples and when I showed up they had gallon zippys with my name ready to roll. The stome I bought was Arizona Extra Small Cobble for $160/ton. The final bill was for around $850. It was $640 for the rock. $85 for delivery. $45 for the bags. Then tax. I thought it was very fair. As for how much you will need, they have a calculator on there website to figure this out. You enter the square footage and the depth and it tells you how much you need. Ours worked out perfectly. It was a bit of a drive to go to there but it was well worth it to check it out and talk to them. Plus you can see their products in person. Desertfix - The PVC is run underneath the deck for future low volt lights. I should have done this before the rock, but I am not sure if I am going to do this or not. Tresw - Thanks for all the help from your posts. You have been fantastic with your own personal threads plus your replys to others. How is the salt working for you??? Our system has been very easy. We have checked our CYA and it has been in the 70s lately but everything else is in check.

Nana your quilt is beautiful and I love the pink. Calliope that's hilarious, but have to agree people do go getting pregnant without asking permission. And just when I think I have made all the baby quilts another cousin goes and gets married. I feel guilty making a quilt just for me as that means putting off making gifts for members of my family and I am the only one quilting in my family currently. I have 2 queen-size quilts currently in progress and have started buying fabric for 2 other queen-size quilts - all for family members. I worry that if I do start a quilt just for me I'll enjoy it so much that everything else will become UFO's. And I love pink, so I know the quilts I want to make for myself will be girly colors and hubby is not too thrilled about that and I also think of who am I going to pass "my" quilts onto that I keep for me and I only have a boy so I think he is going to want "guy" colors in a quilt. I want to know that if I make a quilt that it will be loved and used in the future. Once I get Grandma's queen-size quilt finished though, I think I will feel less guilty about starting blocks for me a quilt - though ssssshhhhh! don't tell hubby, he is wanting a paper-pieced "5 year" lighthouse quilt first. Well off to cut fabric for my Lotto block the only short-term project I am working on currently but it helps break up the monotony of other quilt projects and I keep thinking that if I do enough Lottos that one of these years I will have enough blocks to make a sampler quilt - and yes for me to keep, who am I kidding though it will probably turn into one of my family member's gift. :-) Best to you, Sandra

I am, of all things, a construction defect atty, usually representing homeowners suing developers. (Before you ask, I don't often do remodel cases because homeowners are usually better off working things out unless they have a truly unscrupulous contractor -- but a lot of contractors just won't work with me for that reason alone.) I am thus a terrible snob about concrete and floors :) I recently settled a large case, realized that every single appliance in my kitchen was non-functional to a degree, and decided that I deserved a new kitchen. I fell in love with azul macaubas granite, obsessed about finding the right stone without blowing my budget, scoured the internet for pix of azul macaubas in kitchens, and thus found this site (thank you, theresab, cloudswift, and others). As my tastes evolved I realized that even though I've always lived in the suburbs, I'm a country chick inside. Thus, my dream kitchen has a farmhouse sink, beadboard touches, and schoolhouse lighting, along with that drop dead gorgeous azul macaubas. I want my kitchen to have a lot of blue without putting that color on every single cabinet, floor, ceiling, walls, etc. The first thing I did in starting the remodel project was to find a Thermador stove with blue knobs on ebay for half price. I'm making decisions, with the help of this site, on faucets, lighting, and floor tile while waiting for cabinets to arrive. In my spare time, I trail run and hike, quilt, and raise teenage boys.

Husband knows that if I don't introduce him, it's because I have forgotten the other person's name. He sticks his hand out and introduces himself so they, in turn, introduce themselves. LOL

jeaninwa, the work situation you described is standard practice in my field. A boss doesn't tell an employee who they are with because they consider themselves to be superior to the employee. They don't want the employee to know who the person is -- it's not a social setting or error in etiquette -- it's a power move.

It may be a power thing, but with the one boss, I don't think so, I think she may just not think of it. She's there giving that person a tour, they are the important one, and that's all she's thinking of.
Now, the OTHER boss...yeah, I think she just doesn't feel I need to know, and so she doesn't bother. When I know it's someone from corporate, and that they are there to see how things are working, I WILL ask their names and what department they are from.
Most times when this is happening, I'm super busy with children and can't stop to shake hands and introduce myself, but I will remember to do that when the situation is available. We are doing a lot of new hires lately, so I'm pretty sure it was a potential employee last night. Pretty sure. Not positive.
