I worked as a welder in a factory for 10 years.
When I was hired, I worked in another department and it wasn't long before they asked if I'd train as a welder. Their first woman welder.

I was a landscaper. I still enjoy digging in the dirt, although my knees won't let me do all I want to do.

Was part of history for the University of Alabama Million Dollar Band.

First time U of A football game was in color on tv and I was the hub of a tire with a belt on for the members to come to me and pull red and white strips of crepe paper. Part of our half time performance.

I played fiddle in an old time string band(Appalachian style) for almost 20yrs, then tenor banjo in an Irish ceili band for 7yrs.

Back in the early 50's when J.C.Penny had neighborhood stores, I was in charge of the interior and window displays, in their Northeast store in Minneapolis. Often, when I was working on a window display, a young, mentally challenged young man would stand out side and watched and sometimes would sing "How much is that Dummy in the window" I thought it was funny. When I met my, now husband, what a surprise when I met his family, and it turned out my serenader was his brother.

I am a champion eater. In Summer Day Camp in 1963, I ate 14 slices of watermelon in a contest. My prize was an extra serving of ice cream at lunch.

Mr. Sam Walton was our neighbor when we lived in Newport, AR and he only owned a 5 and 10 cent store in Newport. AR ....my Daddy was a mechanic and used to work on his car.

I trained new Marine Corps dudes after basic how to jump out of airplanes/helicoptors for fun.

Stuck in Yuma, AZ and 29 Palms, CA (there weren't 29 Palms there) and figure out how to entertain these boys. I flang them out of airplanes.

Nothing funner than the meanest guy on earth, fresh out of boot camp - already did the bad stuff and wanted their Mommy at about 1,500 feet.

When I was young and working and living in Indianapolis, I was part of a precision dance team sponsored by Western Electric, where I worked. There were eight of us called âÂÂThe Georgettesâ . ThatâÂÂs because our choreographer âÂÂs first name was George. We practiced two nights a week and actually got good enough that we were asked to perform at quite a few events around town. (We even wowed âÂÂem at the prison once!) We did four song and dance routines and it was great fun. We also played a big part in the yearly âÂÂBig Showâ put on by the company every year. Ahh, the joys of youth!

I purchased my first car, a volvo, with money from my paper route.

I talked to Gregory Peck on the telephone years ago. He was arranging a money transfer to his daughter. What a nice man.

When I lived in San Francisco, they were filming "The Streets of San Francisco" tv show. I was making my way through a crowd of people and literally bumped into Michael Douglas. He was very nice and charming. I was so excited I couldn't even talk. Watching them film the scene, however, was really boring. Doing the same thing over and over again.

I worked alongside the migrant workers picking tomatoes once when I lost my job in FL. I had a child to feed, so I was willing to do anything. I will never complain about migrant workers again. That is the hardest work I have ever done for the least money, and if it hadn't been for some of those families, I would have been feeding my son and not myself. They were so generous. They saw this crazy white woman out there trying to make a living, and they would invite us to their houses to eat dinner, or bring me lunch. When the daycare refused to take my son because I could not pay up front, one family actually took care of him while I worked.

When the "Route 66" TV crew filmed in our town I interviewed the cast and director and wrote a story about them for the local newspaper -- where I was titled "Society Editor" but was actually Girl of All Work.

I was a hair model for Clairol in the '60s. I was coloring my hair red & went to the Clairol office in Hollywood for advice. They asked me to be one of the models for the hair dressers' conventions in the area. There were lots of blondes & brunettes, but few redheads. I did it for a couple years. Much fun.

I was in the final two for Romper Room lady on local tv station, but lost out.

Did go for two screenings.

I once swam with a group of water ballet swimmers in San Francisco. We were called Dr. Bears Ballet Company, I think. I wasn't as good as most of the women/girls but it was a fantastic experience.

My mom was a twin to Maureen O'Hara. not related, but the image of her. She went on a date, in a horse drawn carriage in NYC with Paaaaaaulll. Newman (be still my heart). They were on a date! How cute and wonderful.
My Mom came here on a boat from Ireland at 18 years of age, and was a Nanny in NYC. She was gorgeous.

I was born in a log house. Likely, it had been a settler's house. Before I became a year old, we moved to a better wood-framed house on 40 acres.

In 1964 I talked to Mick Jagger when the Stones were playing in Cleveland. I faked a good British accent and convinced the hotel desk clerk that I was Mick's sister and he needed to put the call through. Mick invited me up to his room. I chickened out in the elevator. He doesn't have a sister.

Oh, I once 'modeled' a DOOR! (I was the pert secretary opening the manufacturer's *lovely* door for a magazine ad.) Liked it better than the Sear's ad where I was one of three girls modeling nighties. It was winter and the photographer had a fan blowing to make the material 'billow'. Brrrr. Guess he air brushed out the goose bumps.

When the community theater put on a variety show, we were invited to perform it at a womans prison. The two songs I sang were....Its A Sin To Tell A Lie and Goody Goody.....the first line in that song is So you met someone who set you back on your heels I was so nervous that the inmates would throw something at me. LOL

At the age of 11 or 12 I lived on the island of Oahu with my parents. To make extra money I would go door to door offering to make hand crocheted shawls. I'm not sure anyone there needed a shawl but I got a few orders. I would run to the store to buy the chosen color and crochet all night to make $5 bucks.
My girlfriend and I would also go down to the lagoon and catch black molly fish, hoping to sell them to our neighbors. I ended up with hundreds of Mollies and a bunch of babies that no one wanted. Back to the lagoon they went.

I along with 3 other travel companions, did the hokey pokey on stage at a college campus in Mainland China, in front of 1500 college students and faculty.,

I once was put into one of those huge headed dancing bear costumes and told to improvise a routine for a roller skating show we were doing.

The role was set for a guy to do but he was too tall for the costume or something so at the last minute I was called to the sound booth and told to put it on. The thing was HUGE on 5'1" me. I could barely see out of it through the little screen. I got to hear the music just once.

It was the "Me and My Teddy Bear" act and the rest of the "skaters" were Tiny Tots in their PJs just sort of milling around who could barely stand up. I just did all I could to blindly avoid them. During the first show I dd a little burlesque bit with a bald man I spotted ed in the audience. For the second show made sure DS who was just a little guy then was in the front row. I pulled him up out of the audience to "dance". he never knew it was mom. LOL I ended the routine with a flourish right on the last beat of music. Ever see a giant bear who v can't see do a somersault? Well I did end in a sitting position and flopped over like a stuffed toy bear. I'd kill myself trying that today. I managed to avoid crushing any toddlers too.
