A True Paranormal Story

I'm posting this because I just watched one of those "true" ghost stories on Biography satellite channel. I met Lynn when we were in 6th grade, my family had just moved to the town. We became good friends, and remained so until we graduated from high school. Lynn always had some unusual interests. She played French Horn in the school orchestra. She was "boy crazy", always dating from 9th grade on. And she had an interest in the occult. She liked to hold seances and use a Ouija Board. I became so spooked during one of her seances that I stayed awake all night and refused to ever particupate in one again. I saw Lynn when we both had our High School graduation parties. We both went away to different universities. She got married and quickly became pregnant, but continued in school. We got together over a school vacation and this is what she told me: One day, she and her husband went out fishing. When they came home, she noticed her wedding ring was missing. They looked everywhere, it wasn't at their rented home and the owner of the boat couldn't find it. She figured it fell out in the water. A few years later, they purchased a new home together and moved in. I think they now had 3 children. One day, Lynn was vacuuming and suddenly felt faint. She shut off the vacuum and laid on the floor till she felt better. When she got up, she happened to look at the mantle over the fireplace. There was her missing wedding ring! I thought maybe her husband had found it and placed it there, but he said no. Isn't this a spooky story?

I love it! Yes, things like this do happen. I have had items that I will set in one room on a table show up later in the middle of the floor in another room, no one else home, no explaination.

I have recently had items that I have misplaced, just show up, where I know I looked before,and they were NOT there. When visiting my sister last month, I was packing to leave... I misplaced my eyeglass case. My DH was loading the car, my sister was gone to work. I looked and looked, went out to the car to ask my DH if he had seen it, he said no, and when I went back inside, the eyeglass case was laying on the middle of the bed. Was definitely not there before. Then after we got home from our trip, I was complaining that I couldn't find my expensive Tweezerman tweezers. We looked everywhere. Three days later they showed up right in the middle of my dressing table. DH swears he did not put them there. spooky.....

Yes I believe in the paranormal and have had ghosts here on and off, mainly on, since we had this place built 19 years ago. This isn't some old house with a history, it was built for us, which I find a bit odd. We've had 2 friendly ones and one angry Indian. He scared the daylights out of several visitors over the years, as he hung out in the guest room and DD's bedroom. He came and went, but we finally had to have a highly regarded paranormal "ghost buster" come and get him to move on. It worked, thank goodness, and we haven't had him back since, which was about 6 years ago. Our home here is in the mountains and there were never any homes here on our property previously. The paranormal expert told us that he felt that this was where the Indian had hunted. The ghost/spirit/soul of a close friend of mine, our (adopted) son's birthfather, stopped by the day he passed, earlier this year. I didn't see him but he whooshed through me, making me feel instantly very chilled and light-headed for a minute. I know that he came to say goodbye. He told me many times before he died that he had his heart set on going to Afghanistan to watch over DS (sadly, his only child) after he died if he could. I like to think he did just that. DS returned safely from his year tour over there on August 25th. Besides being considered a ghost-magnet by my family and close friends (LOL), I've had other paranormal experiences throughout my life. It runs in my family on my mother's side, who came from Scotland. My maternal grandfather, my mom, one brother and one sister have it also. Gramp and my brother were/are "rescuers". They see events before they happen and are guided by something to be there to help. My grandfather saved a number of lives because of this. My brother has as well. My mom, sis and I don't have that "gift", but do each have others. But, unlike the people on tv who can "call up their gifts" at will, none of us can. I tell you all this because you only know me though this website. Unless you're part of my close family or a very close friend, I never mention this. Neither does my mom, brother or sis. Most people expect you to just call things up at will, which we can't. Lynn

Heaths/heathers—the true story (in New England)

Heathers are hardier IME (zone 4) and I haven't had any winter damage with them. I can only grow a few Heaths without winter damage. At my last house I had both a bunch of heathers and one heath, Erica carnea 'Vivellii' which was supposed to be hardier than most heaths and had dark green foliage and rich pink flowers. IIRC, the Erica usually bloomed when there was still some snow on the ground, often in April, though it varied depending on the season and when snow melted. It was in a rocky ledge area that faced SW, so the snow melted fairly quickly compared to less open areas, and the flowers opened as soon as the branches emerged from snow. There was one winter that it had damage when we had a lot of particularly frigid weather without snow, but most winters it pulled through well. My inlaws, who live locally, have a couple of the common heaths seen at grocery and big box stores, Erica x darleyensis 'Mediterranean Pink' and 'Mediterranean White'. They usually have more cold damage, but do survive and recover after trimming. In your slightly warmer zone, I think they would be fine since they are hardy to zone 6 or zone 5 with shelter. They bloom around the time of Scilla, so after snow melt, but before the perennials are more than just beginning to show expanding buds right at soil level. IMO heathers are lovely, one of those plants that looks good regardless of season. In my previous garden I relied on them to provide color and texture at this time of year when only evergreen plants look good. All the ones I've grown are summer bloomers and some have foliage with color that intensifies with cold. I have just five heather plants here and none of them looks great, though all are growing well, just too crowded. I will order more when I have somewhere to put them that shows them well. I don't much like putting them in a regular mixed perennial bed since they tend to get overwhelmed by more exuberant, spreading or sprawling plants. There used to be a wonderful heather nursery on Cape Cod, but when the nursery was sold, they stopped raising heaths and heathers, so the only place I know of now with a really large set of choices is on the west coast, http://www.heathsandheathers.com All the ones I have now I just happened to run across at local nurseries, but there wasn't ever a lot of choice. I would love to hear if others in New England grow heaths or heathers.

Because of an experience with the one cat I had that did require a summer cut watch the fur in the area of his neck. Lady's fur became knotted from the movement of her head. She developed a weeping sore. The vet and the groomer's suggestion which did solve the problem was to remove the hair up to just below her ear level and on her neck up to her chin. The groomer was very careful not to cut her whiskers. Each clump of whiskers were wrapped with that paper tape that is used in wound treatment for people with sensitive skin as it is easier to remove.

I have had it happen to me several times that I was missing something...looked and looked and looked only to find it later in the exact spot that I'd already looked numerous times before. Bugs the heck out of me! I'm one of those people that everything has it's place so when it's not there that's bizarre.

These stories makes my hair stand up, Spooky. It has happened to me. After our Son, Brian passed away I went through all of the pics we had from his lifetime. There was one I especially liked of him & his wife on the beach in CA. I kept that pic on the table, because I was going to find a suitable frame. Then the pic was gone. I looked everywhere, but no luck. Hubs sorts the weeks newspapers on the table and I figured the pic got mixed up with them and gone. A few days later, I went into my bedroom and there was the pic...in the middle of my bed. It is now framed and on the wall with my family gallery.

Both my Mother and I have "heard" but not seen ghosts of loved oners. When I was growing up, we all (Dad,Mom,4 kids) lived with my Grandmother. Grandma died of cancer when I was nine. All her life she had insomnia and used to walk around at night. After she passed away,Mom could hear her walking around. Years later, after I had to put down my beloved dog Poppy, I could hear her walking around the downstairs of my house. I could hear the distinctive jingle sound of her dog collar. I figured she was "patrolling" and protecting our family.

After my mom died in Florida, I was back home in Ohio at the table writing out thank you cards. Left the table, came back and my roll of stamps was missing. Looked all over and under the table. No luck. Left again, came back and there was the stamps right where they had been.

Brother in law would come over to our house daily. He died. One night I had shut off my computer and gone to the diningroom table just feet away from the computer. All of a sudden my computer came on all by itself. I think Bro was having fun. This happened twice.

When Amber still lived at home she had a little yorkie named, Munchie. Munchie lived many years but one morning she passed away. A short time after that, I saw her drinking out of her water bowl! It was brief and I never saw her again.

Quite a few years ago, we lost both of our aged dogs within a week of each other. The first night after the second one passed, and for a couple nights after, we could hear them settling down in their beds in our bedroom. One of them would dig on his bed and sigh and lie down, and the other one snored. After those few times, never heard them again.

I had a cat that died at age 17. She had been my pal since my single days. She slept in bed with me and would "knead me" with her front paws to wake me up. Twice after her death I felt her jump on the bed and start the "kneading". But when I looked , there was nothing.

Same here, nothing there when turning on the lights. I never used to believe in such things, but when 2 people hear it at the same time, it is kinda hard to explain away.
