Funny Story True Story..

So one of my roommates (Mike) and I were working outside together yesterday and I asked him to move two tiger lillies so we could clear that area for sunflowers. He dug them up.. moved them.. no problem. Then he started working the soil to get it nice and broken up. He leaves and I keep working...

Fast forward to after the NASCAR race.. I'm trying to log into my work machine.. no go. No tv, no phone. Other roommate is on the cell phone with Verizon putting in a trouble call.

I'm thinking.. I wonder what could have .. uh oh. So now we are trying to reassure Mike that he couldn't have nicked the fiber.. he wasn't digging that deep. I was home when Verizon was installing the fiber and those trenches were deep. Plus, they shoot the fiber underground so that's why the lillies were not touched during the install.

Well, this morning Mike went out there and mucked around.. and found a cut wire. Since we did it, we're not sure what the fall out is going to be.

I figure.. I watch too much tv anyway! Time to curl up with a good book. If it wasn't raining today, I would work outside after work but reading works!

Oh NO! That doesn't sound very funny to me. That sucks.Have you heard from Verizon yet? I hate calling them. I have wasted so many hours of my life on the phone with those guys. Their fav thing to do is transfer you cause nobody ever knows anything.
Guess the good news is you got your roomate to help you do something. Mine's worthless.

I didn't call Verizon which was probably good for Verizon. :) I guess they came out and ran a patch cable until they can bury a new one. It was kind of peaceful with no TV! Mike is bummed bc now we have to wait until the cable is buried before he can plant his sunflowers.

Home disasters!!! That made my day. My DH is handy and I don't think he has ever goofed up....But.. We had been hearing noises in the attic. He went up to see what was happening, thought it might be a rat or a squirrel. Turns out that it is a big raccoon. (how he got in, and how we got him out, is another story) Anyway, he manages to get him out and goes up to see if he can find where he got in. He manages to step between two ceiling joists and falls through the ceiling in the living room....well almost through, he catches himself by hanging on the joists by his armpits. there he is dangling, feet about four feet from the floor and he doesn't want to drop, afraid he will break an ankle or leg, and can't pull himself back up either. I put the softest big chair we had underneath him and tell him to drop. Nope, doesn't want to ruin the chair either. We argue while his arm pits get sore. Finally, he drops. No harm done to the chair, but his armpits and the ceiling aren't too great.

About 7 or 8 years ago, I spent a week on the small island of Bequia, part of St-Vincent and the Grenadines. St-Vincent has a great lager beer- Hairoun. In the small main town of Bequia, I searched in vain, trying to find some limes to add to my beer. Alas, none were available in the marketplace On our final day, the property owner came to pick us up and take us to the ferry. As we stood with our bags ready, just outside our front door of the cottage, he asked if we'd enjoyed our stay. I told him that my only complaint was that I couldn't find any limes in the marketplace for my Hairoun beer. Without moving a step, he reached out beside him and plucked a lime of the small tree beside our cottage, and handed it to me! Sheepishly I put the lime in my pocket, and forgot all about it until I was back in Canada. (I forgot to declare it at customs- a BIG no-no!) Leslie, my son was bitten by a tick last summer. It took them some time to figure it out. He was looked at by local doctors and of course this is Hicksville as far as healthcare. They finally sent him to one of the best hospitals in Missouri and he was diagnosed. By that time,the infection had eaten into the bones in his neck and he had to have surgery to clean that out,and they had to put plates in. He was very ill and nearly died. After he was sent home he was on an antibiotic drip twice a day for 6 weeks. It was a horrible time for all of us,and I still get shaky thinking how close to death he was. Those ticks can be dangerous!!!!

ChiefNeil: Waterlox is very similar to oil based polyurethane. The difference is that it uses phenolic instead of urethane resins and tung oil istead of the lighter colored oils found in most oil-based polyurethane. In general Waterlox is less durable than oil-based urethane but is much easier to repair. It also has less of a plastic look to it and in fact is a very attractive finish with its deep amber color. I don't like it on lighter woods but otherwise it looks great. It is considered safe for incidental food contact (meaning no chopping) but the government requires that for basically all finishes, not just those for woodworking. I would have loved to finish our floors with Waterlox but since it will not be allowed under 2011 governmental VOC regulations I went with a catalyzed waterborne -- Bonakemi Traffic.
